Regarding the miata moniker, been with me since 1998..guess it, miata owner..when I register with this site, thought maybe a different moniker would had been better but I'm partial to that miata..

lol not sure if uve been around long enough to see the thread but its from a different thread xD. got nothing against miatas its just funny. very well built doors

fullmonty 07-26-2010 07:24 AM

You see sir, some, well one person felt that the 370Z doors did not clunk as loudly as his Miatia so he figured that since it didn't clunk the 370Z and its doors were not on par with his Miaita and he didn't buy the Z. So ya, thats the story in a nutshell. We've all been saving up for Miata doors since.

Hey man take it to an insurance adjuster as soon as possible, then find out what body shop you want, then call the kid or his dad and inform them that you want this fixed immediately. Most likely their insurance will cover it, if not then you will have to hire a lawyer and sue them, however they might be be able to just pay out of pocket. i was hit a month after i got my Z, and had similar damage to your car, roughly 5k, so hopefully they have a few extra thousand lying around, cuz its gonna cost a pretty penny. You Z will be in the shop for at least a week maybe two, so make sure you have the get a rental for you.

All in all, its far easier if you do this through their insurance. Goodluck let me know if you have any questions. PS- Z's are notorious for getting hit in the most ridiculous ways, so be very cautious all the time about who is around you and whether or not they are paying attention to the road.

Don't forget to claim diminish value claim to. Your Z lost value when that kid hit your car (proof is in the car fax), and you deserve to be compinsated for that value.

Even if your insurance covers it I would still sue the dad. You could probably find a negligence argument in the facts.

Thx guys for the advice..waiting for the insurance adjuster to come down and give me an estimate..One question, the side panel is dented and slightly bent. The dealership adjuster was saying that it will more likely be straighten out and repaint, any chance I can get the insurance to replace the panel?

Lemers 07-26-2010 12:48 PM

They won't usless you demand it. Remember it's not your insurance that will have to pay.

Thanks for that, I'm new to this board and was searching trying to find the thread that was the basis for the miata doors meme.

For what its worth, I just traded in my 3rd-gen Miata. I liked the car, don't get me wrong. But the Z is definitely more solid.

Just break both his legs so he can't drive anymore. Then his Dad can take him off the insurance policy. Stuff like that really drives me nuts, to put it politely.

Yes they will be able to straighten that out fine. My rear panel over the back wheel had the same thing happen to it. They straightened, buffed it out and then repainted it. That should be fairly easy for the dealership to do. Just make sure it a Nissan dealership or reputable body shop. The other thing that dealers will do ( i should say shady dealerships) is actually say that they replaced the panel, then just straighten out the old one, and then pocket that money. So even if you did request it, they might just fix the old one and say they replaced it.
