G37 vs 370Z

Well, I've posted this both on myg37.com and my350z.com, so I figured I might as well post it here.

One thing I would like to add is that this car will be my daily driver, if that makes any difference.

Hey guys, I'm going to be trading in my G coupe in about a year or so, and the top 2 new cars I'm looking at are the G37(maybe x) and the 370Z.

I'm looking for something similar to my G35, the looks, the power, the smoothness of driving it.

I'm leaning a bit towards the 370Z though because I am basically just looking for another sports car, I don't care much for all of the extra features that come with the G37.

I've driven an '08 G sedan before and honestly I just don't like the way it feels. What I mean by this is that if I push down on the throttle, I want to hear/feel the car respond.

I have not however driven the G37, but I'm only assuming that it's similar :dunno:.

I've had many a ride in my friends 350Z, and the only thing that bothered me was the somewhat barren interior and the lack of room for just about anything.

Well anyways, thanks for your opinions and comments, I hope I was clear enough.

ha I told you to come here

I'm not fond of the G37's looks.

I love the G37S and will buy one for my fianceeafter the Z, but I myself prefer the Z.
In regards to the poll I picked G37 but that is for interior amenities and the soon to be available AWD option. In my spectrum the 370Z is king, but I have to weigh the value of the two if money is not an issue.

Went with the Z:tup:

Convert - welcome to the forum and I saw your post on the other page as well. I've asked similar questions here and there. At the end, after driving both cars, I've decided to go with the Z. Here are my brief thoughts in no particular order:

1. Z is just more exciting to look at vs G. Don't get me wrong, G is one fine looking vehicle. However, it still retains that coupe look similar to... Altima coupe and a few other cars out there. Sure, the new Z looks similar to the 350 but the new design really makes it stand out.

2. Interior and extra amenities (heated mirrors, more power seat adjustments, backup camera etc) are very nice features on the G that I wish I can have on the Z. Nonetheless, the new Z sports a very nice interior as well. Persimmons option on the Z did it for me.

3. Performance - this is what surprised me. I drove both 08 5AT and 09 7AT, including the x model for the G. I only drove 7AT for the Z. I cannot tell significant difference between the two. In fact, 08 5AT felt more responsive than the Z - may be the car was broken-in since it was a demo. I love how the G has the "DS" mode as an intermediary between full auto D and manual D. DS provides sporty feel without going full manual. Overall, I think performance is similar between the two cars if you choose auto. In fact, I think the G had a better exhaust note???!?!

4. Others - hopefully you will drive both cars but if there is one thing I didn't like about the Z is the blind spot. G has a great comfy ride - not soft but just ideal for daily driving. However, I just feel more excited about getting into Z. I think I would reconsider if this was going to be my only vehicle.
Good luck

for a daily driver, the G takes it, it's more practical.....as in a bit more space for some junk in the trunk

I'll take the lighter shorter Z over the G. I am obsessed with light weight/daily driver combo.

Here's my take and why i voted Z:

1. G37 looks arent necessarily the hottest. it's not the ol' G35 anymore. but some can argue against a few design aspects of the Z as well. i _personally_ fell in love with the super wide fenders of the Z
2. G37 virtually puts no performance improvement over the G35 really even with the new powerplant
3. The Z has a more unique character being a 2 seater, more nimble, stiffer, and basically geared to compete with a P-car (cayman S)
4. having driven both cars, the Z is just much more fun to throw around corners (even tho it got out of control much very surprisingly) but it kinda reminds me of the nimbleness of the Z4M

When i look for a full blown coupe the G gets out of the competition quickly. Maybe i'd consider it if i ever consider auto again with the new 7-speed, but with 6MT the car is definitely a disappointment. But when i look for a small little fun quick car for the track the Z makes a lot of sense!

I agree with you that the G37 isn't nearly as nice looking as the former G35 is, some people love it, but for me I think it looks too bubbly, if that makes any sense.

And anyways I'm saying that this car will be my daily driver, not for the track

The 08 G Sedans are actually faster than the G37's, I drive one myself and it responds very good when pushing down on the throttle.

klubbheads 02-24-2009 01:17 PM

07-08 sedans are not faster than the G37s. They are just as fast. Their ET and trap speed are identical considering the 60ft times are similar. I personally have seen a 60-150 run with G37 coupe 6MT and the 08 G35 6MT and no one pulled an inch on the other car.

On the other hand 09 G37 sedan is quicker than its coupe counterpart.

if i am to make that decision today my only consideration would be whether or not i need a rear seat, and that small extra trunk space. i live out of my car so i cannot live with the Z as my daily and only car.

I have raced G37's on the track and have beaten them, I have also raced my friend's g37 with stillen intakes, fast intentions exhaust and a grounding kit and have beaten him quite a few times when I am bone stock. So either his car needs a major tune, or I have no idea but I pull a car on most G37's so I'm sorry but you are wrong. Yes, I agree with you that both cars can be just as fast as each other but not quite. I am automatic as well.

In my slightly modded 04 G35 6MT, i have raced about 10 different E46 M3s. You know how many I lost to? Just ONE!
Does that make the 2004 G35 faster than the M? NO
Just because other drivers suck at driving doesn't mean one car is faster than the other. You being a faster driver does not mean your car is faster than the other. If you have raced G37s at the track, i would love to see timeslips....
