I think i found a problem with my 370Z...

I went to my friends house to pick up some stuff and my girlfriend was sleepy so she decided to stay in the car and wait for me. I turned off the car and left her the keys. She always locks the car when she waits for me in the car.
After about 5 mins i come back out and I could see my girl sleeping, just out of curiosity i tried pressing the unlock button in the door and it worked! WTF
So does this mean that anybody could unlock my door from outside just by pressing that button if im inside the car? :shakes head:

Stealth_Z 07-16-2010 01:08 PM

Yeah unless you're dumb enough to leave your windows down when you leave your car somewhere. Might as well keep the doors unlock.

radio5boro 07-16-2010 01:10 PM

isn't it a safety feature... since the z senses the keys inside, it doesn't want you to stay locked out of your car.

>135I 07-16-2010 01:11 PM

Actually I left my wife's purse in the car when we went to dinner with the extra set of keys in it and I locked the doors with my set as we were walking away I had my wife try to unlock the car and it wouldn't unlock.

rha600 07-16-2010 01:15 PM

I see what he's getting at.

If you were in a bad area and locked your doors for safety and then pulled up to a redlight. Someone could just open the door and yank you out.

Juruki 07-16-2010 01:16 PM

^^ exactly...

Or waiting in the car in a sketchy neighbourhood

shoopajae10 07-16-2010 01:22 PM

^^ Only if you live in GTA San Andreas

Second Amendment comes in handy in that situation.

I find it difficult to beat hookers to death in my Z.

Very true, but even here in FL I'm not allowed to have my berretta in the office and I don't really want to leave it in the car all the time so I just don't carry it. :(

SiXK 07-16-2010 03:27 PM

thats odd. my wife and I tried that and I could not unlock the door from outside with her inside it with the key.

spearfish25 07-16-2010 03:32 PM

Hmmm, I drive through a not-so-good area and keep the doors locked. I guess I still have the benefit of knowing that the people in that area would never figure out how to unlock my Z anyway. Pretty sure the raptors in Jurassic Park are more intelligent than them...

KaienZ34 07-16-2010 04:38 PM

I think if the car is running and in gear, that you can't just come up to it from the outside and hit the button to unlock it. But i've not tried it so can't be for sure on this.

Try that with the car running. I bet someone from the outside can't unlock the door then.

That's good practice because --god forbid something happens to your car-- there won't be another weapon out loose on the streets in the hands of crooks.

Juruki 07-16-2010 06:04 PM

I know for sure while in park and with the engine off the doors do unlock from the outside. I have to try it with the engine running and in gear. I really hope the button doesn't unlock my doors lol

kevin1985912 07-16-2010 06:54 PM

can't you turn off the button function on the door?

sonic370 07-16-2010 07:21 PM

i'm betting since the doors lock when you get up to 15 mph. that at a stop light
or any other time like at a drive thru window if someone tries to push the unlock button it won't unlock the doors.

USMCASA 07-16-2010 07:50 PM

if some ghetto *** is smart enough to use the button on the outside of my car when i'm sitting at a light or stopsign, i'll quickly show him the error of his ways and present my bear arms in his face. doubtful anyone other than z owners know about the button because everyone that sees me open my doors stare at me like they saw jesus or something.

KaienZ34 07-16-2010 08:43 PM

From another thread on this forum...

Tested it. With two fobs, car not running, I put fob "a" in the cup holder, fob "b" in my pocket, closed the door, and locked it with the button under the outside door handle. Two beeps; car locks. I unlock it, lock it again, two beeps. Walk away. Leave fob "b" in house, go to car (fob "a" still in cup holder), try to unlock, will not unlock. Get fob "b" from house, car unlocks. Leaving fob "a" in car did not make it behave any different than if it wasn't in there. Of course if I try to lock the car without having a fob on me, and have a fob in the cup holder, it beeps like crazy when I try to lock it.

Could location of the key inside the car made much difference? Say it was in her pocket near the door you were opening. The same distance required from the sensor, just on the other side?

Cause I found out the other day if two people walk up to the car at the same time and the fob is my pocket. My passenger cannot use the unlock function even though I am in proximity of the sensor on my side.

SkyZ 07-17-2010 01:09 AM

how did you lock the car? i know mine beeps at me if the fob is in the key and i try to lock the door.

Agreed.

UNKNOWN_370 07-17-2010 12:49 PM

Maybe your girl didn't realize that she hit the fob one time too many and the doors reopened. Or while she slept she accidently hit a button. I own 2 cars now with fobs and I have never ever ever had any locking issues in over the last few years. And believe me I done tried to beat the fob system cuz my wife drives the cars too... wanna keep her safe. Being this is such an isolated case I would put my money on human error.

CrownR426 07-17-2010 01:26 PM

lol, you can turn off that feature!
but say bye bye to keyless entry

Bet you can gut and flay hookers easily in the roadster with the top down -- clearly the Z of choice for serial killers

To the OP: Did you try it with the car running? (Yes, I know I could test this myself, but I'm lazy and it's hot outside... :icon17: )

But you lose all storage space with that top down.

pompey 07-18-2010 09:36 PM

i was in my driver seat, and stoped at a red light, had it in gear, and rolled my window down and tried pressing the button, and it didnt unlock

KaienZ34 07-18-2010 10:06 PM
