My wife's fob had gotten lost, so we were down to one fob. Car was operating as expected; no issues; locks and unlocks fine. Fast forward to the next time we had the car washed. They (the car wash) found her fob in the car and put it in the cargo area.
So, while her fob was lost inside the car, we were able to lock the car normally with my fob. It would seem that the rule might be that there be a fob outside the car in close proximity for it to lock, regardless if there is a fob on the inside. I haven't tried it out, just something that made me go "Hmmmmm" when we discovered the fob had been inside the car the whole time. Last edited by mcphelps; 07-16-2010 at 02:35 PM. |

Seems like you'd want the Z to lock even if the key/fob were left inside. Interesting thread none the less, and I've yet to even experiment with the idea and/or the beeping. But say you're a pretty little blonde sitting in the car at a stop light in the bad part of town with the fob in your purse. Do you really want a boogyman to be able to run up and push a button and get in your car with you?

No, and I always lock the car with the button on the door handle; two beeps would be all I got when I locked it. I have tried leaving the car with the fob inside (without having another fob on me) and it beeps like crazy. So I think the test would be to have both fobs, leave one in the car, have the other in your pocket, and try to leave/lock the car. I don't know if the wife's fob was in the cargo area the whole time, or if they found it elsewhere and put it there.
