That's why I plan to get a 5 year loan - so I won't have to pay it off :)

frost 07-11-2010 01:03 PM

I really don't care either way, the Z is one of my first auto cars, bought specifically for the 45-70 minutes I spend in traffic. I don't mind a little ball-bustin between buddies, and while some of you can take a good jab in fun, it's obvious some people here really do think the other transmission is beneath them. I don't like that kind of elitism when no matter which trans you get, you still have one hell of a ride. :tiphat:

Like I said earlier that this didn't need to turn into a pissing Match?
Like Frost said, in the end we're driving one Hell of a Car.

ALso: please provide the link or provide the magazine. I just haven't read that anywhere.

You can find many articles here on this site posted above. All of the quickest times reported were in automatic cars (and again, the base model seemed to be the quickest of them all...and I don't doubt that). One or two articles (I'll try to locate them) came flat out and talked about the automatic being quicker.

Anyway, it was .1 to .2 seconds, and yes, that does mean something to me. Silly maybe, but it does. Again though, that's with a professional driver. I would be willing to bet that 5 times out of 6 the same 370 owner would be more than .3 seconds or more quicker in the quarter with an auto than a manual.

I really like manuals now. I REALLY do. I spent a lot of time finding my former Maxima with one and LOVED it. Alas though, I think their time has come and gone. The autos are just that good. You are quicker, more consistent, able to focus on driving, and have a more dependable car for the most part.

I tell you what is nice, is the matching revs on a down shift just with the tug of one of my left hand's fingers. That is pretty freaking sweet!

Correlation: most accidents involve sober drivers so most accidents are caused by being sober

do your part to reduce accidents don't drive sober

Hah these threads are so predictable. Every car forum since the dawn of.. car forums has a MT vs. AT thread. Not one has ever reached a definitive agreement beyond: the other guy is wrong.

On a side note, the arguments are slightly more interesting now that manufacturers are stuffing automatic gearboxes with extra gears. The taller, extra gears do give strong 0-60 and quarter mile times.

When you're faster, you don't need awesome comebacks.

Zsteve 07-11-2010 06:52 PM

besides I heard a manual guy saying we should pretend to be like a manual and we said do we slow down to pretend to be a manual. So we have come back with some good ones. You just have to listen to the wind that is carrying our comments when you are behind us.

Obviously, you don't did get this topic is pointless, both are good transmissions, and it's a matter of preference. Its like trying to argue one flavor of ice to another, It's still ice cream. :driving:

Dwight Frye 07-11-2010 07:51 PM

The 7AT is an excellent transmission and yes, the 370Z is a little faster with it. Had I bought a G37 instead of my 370Z I would have gone with the 7AT (I traded in a 2004 G35 with the 6MT). However, like men with earrings, wearing a baseball hat backwards, plastic guns, and having a cutesy picture of a cat as your avatar, some things are just wrong. And an automatic in a car like a 370Z is one of them.

Some men are manly enough to have a cutesy cat as their avatar, and don't really concern themselves with what others think. I have a couple pink shirts too:rolleyes:
I didn't spend $40k on a car to please anyone else, or worry about what some douche going slower than me or burning up his clutch in traffic thinks about my tranny.

On the upside, those manual drivers give fantastic hand jobs.
