The guys was too much in a hurry probably to look at the removed filter to make sure the gasket was still on the filter, and failed also to look on the block that the gasket was still there, a plain simple fukup.

Update on my situation, but first I'd like to thank PapoZalsa for getting me the Nissan N.A. Customer Service email, thanks man! I'll be talking to an Executive Customer Service person tomorrow regarding the offer from Nissan on extra coverage for the Z! Hopefully it'll be sweet enough to ease our minds on this deal!

Did they indicate how much oil was actually left in the engine when they drained it? If not, have the service manager find out from the tech asap (before he forgets). Oil analysis and compression check sound like good things to get done as well. The smoking could be a bad sign or just oil being thrown on the exhaust, hard to tell.

Anybody who has ever worked in a dealership knows this happens all the time, usually it's an off the street lube tech who does it, drives it off the lift with oil gushing out the bottom. FYI, nothing is usually done, just drive it back put it on the lift and fill her back up. But, much thrasing on the lube tech. You would be surprised at some of the monkeys dealerships have working for them.

Finally got connected with the Executive Customer Service lady this afternoon, she was really polite and helpful! They offered me a 7yr./100,000mi coverage on the engine, which I accepted! I'll be recieving the letter in the mail next week! I guess that's pretty good, what do you all think?

The most routine maintenance task.. with a lift.. and they fail. I'd also get a used oil analysis with your next oil change to see if there are large amounts of metal in it.. blackstonelabs can analyze the oil.

good luck.

Seems reasonable for both side to me. If a problem were to manifest itself, it surely would show up before 7 years. I'd still like to see a simple compression test if I were you.

i suppose that's okay. i would've wanted a free case of nissan oil filters and crush washers to go along with it.

That's great!, I believe that will be the best you will get, you might be able to squeeze a maintenance plan out of them too.(free oil changes, and tire rotations for 4 years) But that would be tops.

Lug, they did perform a compression test on each cylinder as well as a cylinder leakdown test and from what they showed me (the readings are on the maint. invoice) and to their satisfaction the numbers were good! But just for more "ease of mind" I contacted Nissan N.A. Customer Service and they, I guess for the most part, came through for me w/ this extended (7yr./100k mile) warranty on the engine!

Good to know Nissan doesn't automatically sides with the dealership.

Sweet. The rings would be my first worry and since the compression tests are good, you a lot less to worry about!
