cant pull the trigger...

Ok so well to make a long story short, I drive my dads car right now and I want something of my own.. my current car is a VERSA, **** sucks to drive man, its so slow and boring :(

I've talked up about getting something sporty and my parents don't even want to help me buying something that expensive, they thing I'm stupid.. well... I'm 20 and I'm pulling in decent income.. I was initially going for a genesis coupe.. 3.8 track model would be nice and is fully loaded under 28k

However the 370Z seems so much more appealing for a couple reasons.. The Genesis coupe has a lot of problems.. If you search some of its related forums, they've got manual gearbox problems, the engine making crazy noises, and there's a general lack of aftermarket support for now (its increasing..)

I like the 370Z but I'm sure its had its fair share of quirks.. I see a lot about oil temp, but...is that it? I've gone through several different forum boards and all I see is 'if u drive hard get an oil cooler'... is that really it?

Also, I can't convince myself that the 370Z is worth the extra 8-12k its gonna cost me.. None of the dealerships have a manual 370Z... I want to test drive one before I finally decide what I want to get, yet nobody has a manual 370Z in stock... :shakes head:

For the features, I'm looking at Touring with Sport package.. I had a dealer offer me the 40th aniversary edition for like 36k... that doesn't make much sense, if they are rarer? Are these just glorified base models?

I'm in the works of getting quoted for the loan I would need to get this car, insurance is hurting though

Insurance is going to be a deciding factor for you honestly. And I'd say yes the 370z justifies the extra money over the Genesis(my opinion?)

As far as problems besides the oil temp...

Do you track the car? On the track people have complained about the brakes. But that's stock brakes on a TRACK. If you're just doing street driving I'd say the oil problem is the only thing. But, living in NY I don't see too much problems with my oil temperature so far.

I live in Phoenix, oil temp has never been an issue. Even the couple times I've raced. Maybe I'm just a lucky one.

life is a journey

There's a chasm between a Versa and a 370Z, and maybe you don't make it all the way across the Snake river, even on a rocket bike.

You're young. If you go with a Genesis next, it's not the end, just

1 more car you'll own along the way.

I do plan to head to the local track a few times

Are the "NISMO" brake upgrades from Nissan worth anything? or should I do my own aftermarket stuff

I'm young, also impatient :p

I understand geting the Z is a big jump. I understand I'm gonna need to take it easy so I don't wreck the new car right away lol... I like to think I'm responsible

Also, thanks for the fast replies..

Question bout the packages... Is the SyncroRev worth anything in this car? Its the only real reason I wanna get the sport package

Also, I hear bad things about the Viscous LSD.. does it not come in the non-sport pack?

Trips 06-13-2010 01:22 PM

If you're going to be a lead foot or doing any Tracking? Install a cooler. The end

Nick911sc 06-13-2010 01:26 PM

Synchro-rev alone is worth the upgrade to the sports package. Also, the rims, brakes, spoiler and LSD helped as well for me. I don't track my car so these were welcome items.

This thread exposes a huge pet peeve of mine. :)

TheShoura 06-13-2010 01:28 PM

okay well that sounds good

but like I said.. is that it? lol. Someone mentioned brake fade.. is it bad with this car? should I replace the pads with ceramics and get crossdrilled rotors or something?

if thats the case Im pretty much sold on this car lol..

@nick: ok thanks for that, I just went back and looked again theres more than I thought :p

m4a1mustang: yes, i know, let me guess, this thread shows up once a week?

No, no, no... it's not you.

I just hope you catch a lucky brake and get a good deal on your Z. Don't worry about the breaks... pads are an easy upgrade. ;)

Why are my breaks always braking? Do I need cross drilled? :roflpuke2:
