Exactly. Only the breaks are fading.

Ok so well to make a long story short, I drive my dads car right now and I want something of my own.. my current car is a VERSA, **** sucks to drive man, its so slow and boring :(

I've talked up about getting something sporty and my parents don't even want to help me buying something that expensive, they thing I'm stupid.. well... I'm 20 and I'm pulling in decent income.. I was initially going for a genesis coupe.. 3.8 track model would be nice and is fully loaded under 28k

However the 370Z seems so much more appealing for a couple reasons.. The Genesis coupe has a lot of problems.. If you search some of its related forums, they've got manual gearbox problems, the engine making crazy noises, and there's a general lack of aftermarket support for now (its increasing..)

I like the 370Z but I'm sure its had its fair share of quirks.. I see a lot about oil temp, but...is that it? I've gone through several different forum boards and all I see is 'if u drive hard get an oil cooler'... is that really it?

Also, I can't convince myself that the 370Z is worth the extra 8-12k its gonna cost me.. None of the dealerships have a manual 370Z... I want to test drive one before I finally decide what I want to get, yet nobody has a manual 370Z in stock... :shakes head:

For the features, I'm looking at Touring with Sport package.. I had a dealer offer me the 40th aniversary edition for like 36k... that doesn't make much sense, if they are rarer? Are these just glorified base models?

I'm in the works of getting quoted for the loan I would need to get this car, insurance is hurting though

You "cant pull the trigger" because you can't afford the gun...

BTW, your parents don't owe you anything. And there's the old saying "beggars can't be choosy", so who cares if what you drive right now is "slow and boring". Save your money, then buy what you can afford.

I typically drive in a "spirited" manner on public roadways and have yet to see my oil temps go above 220. And that 220 was while playing --- mph tag with a 350Z on the MD/DC beltways on a 90 degree day.

The day I experience higher temps or rev limiting, I'll order a cooler and you guys can say "told you so".
Until then, I'm not worried about it or eager to add more connections and possible leak points to my oiling system.

The brakes or breaks seem to work just fine for hauling the car down from brakeneck or breakneck speeds during spirited driving on public roadways.

SynchroRev is a worthwhile feature to have.

I got a brand new 350z at 21 years-old and some of the insurance quotes I got were outrageous!

However, then I went to Geico and they were actually 1/3 of what other insurance companies were for me (Progressive, State Farm, etc.).

The reason being they do not categorize males as "youthful drivers" if they are under 25 years-old. I don't know what your driving record looks like, but mine was spotless (no accidents and no speeding tickets) and that is why they could do that for me.

I got quoted the same for the 350z as I did a Corvette z06 and a 2.5 Altima S...so maybe you can look into it! Good luck! I pay about $700 for 6 months!

ITT: Old guys that are made because a 20 year old can afford the Z.

@ OP: It's your money. Test drive the cars you're looking at and figure out if the extra money is worth the extra stuff. If you decide to go with the Z, definitely don't skip the Sports Package.

Dan37TZ 06-13-2010 02:38 PM

Hmmm... you're 20. Maybe you shouldn't be looking at $35,000-40,000 cars?

20 year old in a high powered rwd 2 seater expensive sports car? = insurance raping.

+ higher maintenance cost and fuel consumption.

I think your parents are very smart trying to talk you out of it. I even think a 3.8 Genesis is a bit much.

Have you ever thought about something along the lines of a new Civic Si? Those are fanstastic fun cars, FWD so it won't necessarily bite your head off if you make a mistake.
