Stealership story!!
Thought i would relay a story i heard at my dealership today.
Took my 370 by today to schedule a oil change and order a set of locking lug nuts for my car. So anyway when i tell the service rep i need my 3000 mile oil change he says that's a good idea,so i say what do you mean. He says a guy just left his 370 that had only 8500 miles on it and had never changed the oil. When he brought it in it only had a quart and a half of oil in it and the engine had locked up or blown up and expected it to be covered under warranty.Well anyway that's not happening but the service guy said new engine would run around 14,000 grand does that sound about right? sorry to ramble that just shocked me! Plus one of his 19in rims was bent which he said was 1100 a rim! |
Hmmmm. That is interesting. GM's new LSX crate motor that pushes 600+ HP and 550+ pound feet of torque, with all kind of 7 liter Z06 stuff runs for about $12,000. I'm just saying.....
|
If at the dealership I would believe it. Acura, Toyota, Lexus I have seen 14k+ long blocks from all three.
|
No, the engine is around 9-10k tops.
Also, technically the oil is meant to be changed around 7k miles so the dealership could have a case against him for not paying for a new engine, but I think they were just trying to instill fear into you. |
I did my oil change right after the 1,200 break-in, they put a sticker for the next one due like at 8,000 miles.
I will never go over 3 to 4,000 miles even when I'm using synthetic. |

Yeah i think your right. I was just amazed this guy ran the crap out of his car and brought it in with one quart of oil in it and wanted then to fix it after 8500 miles on it. they said his rear tires looked liked they had 25,000 miles on them! |
ahhh one side of the story, but i wouldnt be surprised if someone ragged on their car. its not exactly a toyota corolla.
|
if my motor blew, i'd get an LSX or something and have the ******* fastest Z
|
Right on the nose, Dreamer. The Owners Manual allows for a 7,500-mile oil change under specified conditions (i.e. not driving on dusty roads, little or no stop'n'go traffic, no hauling, etc.) I do mine at that schedule with no problemo. I seldom put that many miles on her anyway--usually 4,000-a-year, so I got a 3,500-mile leeway to play with.

You can tell the stealerships from the good dealers easily, because stealerships are in business to make money. Honest dealers are tax-free, non-profit organizations run by saints or Oprah.

The problem isn't so much the mileage, but the lack of checking the oil level and realizing its running low!
|
Yeah that dude is just plain dumb. It might of been 14k for the engine and them to install the engine and everything. The guy that had the car obviousely didnt know a thing about cars or else he would of got it changed sooner. I know some people change every 2k miles... and thats basically just throwing money away in my opinion. I usually change mine every 5k. Longest Ive gone was 6k but kept checking to see if it was or not.

Morons that abuse their cars probably have other issues too. You probably wouldn't want to be his girlfriend. Spoiled rich kid comes to mind.. |

i agree that was the point of the post. he treated the car like crap and wanted nissan to foot the bill.any fool who runs his car 4 quarts low and then blames the dealership is an idiot.not all dealerships are crooks.
and no i don't work at one. |
anyone want sticker shock + a heart attack just look at the labor for changing out the ansa headers on a 355 Ferrari or the fuel pump replacement on a Ferrari.
|
Off topic but AFAIK or from what I was hearing before the GTR power plant front to back was around 38k

I agree, what a moron this guy was. he should go hang out with the 'corvette z06 Burnout' guy |
Why are you going to the dealership for the oil change? I went for my first but no more... got my second elsewhere. I stood next to the guy and watched him do everything nice and good. Dealership oil change costs are about twice vs. 80-90 dollar an hour repair shops, good ones.. I'm not even saying goto Walmart tire n lube..
I paid $85 or so at my mechanic, vs. almost twice of that at the dealership. Now that I've seen it step by step and there's a nice thread by AK370 with pics/instructions to do it yourself I'm gonna try the next time. |

B. Some people like everything to be documented with the manufacture. |

Having a service history is a huge advantage if you ever go to privately sell the vehicle. You CAN document buying the oil, record the mileage, and throw that into the folder with the rest, but that doesn't always happen if your hands are covered in oil and you're tired/sweaty. :icon17: |

I think your right, but the dealerships are just like other business some better or more honest than others. For the record the dealership where i bought my z at charges 75.00 for mobil 1 oil change. For service i tend to go there just in case i have a problem they can't say the car was never serviced right. |

Great color on your Z! I think its the fastest one nissan makes. For certain the coolest! |
Quote:
Let me translate out of dealership speak: A) An oil change for the Z is $140 at the dealership B) A 7,500 mile service is $310, but the oil change is free, so $170 The only "Free" oil change is one that is included in a service package like the 7,500 mile, which also includes checking fluids and a tire rotation. But tire rotations don't apply to the Z, so your basically paying 30$ for someone to look at the 4 or 5 fluids. Notice the lingo, CHECK the fluids, not refill them if need be. Oh yea, forgot to mention, they put your car through the car wash too! A full tank of gas makes a top of the line machine car wash all of 8$ so to me thats not that much of a value. No thanks, for 85$ i can get 6 quarts of redline and an oil filter and do it myself. |
The thing about having a "dealer maintained" car being useful would apply more to regular cars not speciality cars in my opinion. A non-enthusiast would rarely buy a used Z, mostly out of the concern that he won't be able to tell how badly the previous owner beat/rev'd it, only someone who knows their car-tech would look into buying a used Z, in which case he would know that its okay to not have a history of oil changes at the dealer...
(Also, what I noticed at my dealership - Smithtown Nissan - was actually the other way round from what people sayin here... they rush things to get more volume cars.. the smaller shop guy is a nice hard working guy who does a more meticulous job..).. it takes the same 'time' at either place. I guess another factor plays for me, I'm not a fan of 'dropping it off for the day' be it at a dealer or smaller shops after seeing videos of people not doing jobs in big places (check out on utube) at all or just other OCD fears.. |
