I never said that. In fact, I know several people who know how to drive manual but choose to drive Auto. Whatever makes you happy.

I choose manual because I'm a 3-pedal addict. I enjoy the process. But if you enjoy driving auto, that's fine, too. Live and let live.

Disclaimer: was looking for an excuse to use that pic. don't take personally. :tiphat:

i'm not saying all auto owners can't drive stick. i just think the ones who can't drive stick are the one saying that Manual transmissions are

1. one more thing to be distracted by

2. easy except for starting on hills and in traffic (so basically its all hard except for cruising in 6th gear?)

3. The worst thing in the world in traffic

4. Getting in the way of fooling around with your girlfriend in the car(i remember seeing that one somewhere on this forum)

I know i wouldn't by a sports car unless it had a manual transmission or a dual clutch. Isn't this the same automatic transmission thats in the g37? my mother has a g37, in an auto. I click the shifter and about a second later the car shifts gears. Correct me if i am wrong but i believe they have the same transmission, and i could never settle for that sort of response time in a sports car

I'm with Jeff on this one, sure I won't be as fast as an AT but hey I take gratification in knowing that it takes some skill to drive the MT.

My observations aren't based solely off this thread, I've been around the forum for quite some time now and there's definitely a trend of smugness coming from 6MT owners towards 7AT owners.

Its nothing malicious, its just that generally, car forums are full of enthusiasts. Generally, manual transmissions are driven by either A. people from countries outside the US where it is still the more popular transmission. B. People who got the cheapest level car which came with a manual transmission. C. Enthusiasts.

So yes it makes sense that there might be a sense of smugness coming from the drivers of MT, because maybe they dont understand why a car enthusiast would choose auto in a car they are so enthusiastic about having because it is so fun to drive, when the general consensus is that the 6mt is more fun to drive.

the only thing keeping MT alive anymore are people who have no money (ie 92 civic with a stick shift) and car enthusiasts, since it is now apparently slower, and not even better on gas. Everyone else who is opting for convenience in a car that really was never about being practical or convenient is helping to kill MT

I think the OP ran away...

Fact is this: People who have an auto ended up paying MORE for the car and it was a choice. It's advanced technology and it comes at a premium. Some people get the manual transmission because it's cheaper and it's all they can afford.

If you like having your hand on a stick while driving and it makes you feel more like a man, then more power to you. :superghey:

I've driven a stick since I was 18 (trust me a really long time ago lol) but I went with the 7AT because I love the option to drive with the paddles, (or stick) or just put it in D and cruise. Yes I admit I am a bit lazy. At times I would love to have the 6mt but other times I am really glad I got the Auto. Maybe I should just buy a second Z in 6MT LOL!! That would be sweet but a hard sell to the Mrs.

Hey maybe the next gen Z will have an auto with a clutch in manual mode. I think that's been done before hasn't it?

Never heard of that.

I feel like the MT with Syncrho rev match is more advance technology that the Auto tranny in this car. This is car just uses a torque converter, its not really considered advanced tech anymore. a lot more economy class cars now have a automatic as standard or a very cheap option. Double clutch=advanced. Torque Converter = been around a while.

btw IS this the same 7AT as the G37?

I <3 this poast.

It is a fun irony that there are folks acting high and mighty about the cheaper option. :icon17:

That said, I do enjoy having my hand on a stick, even when driving automatics. :eekdance:

The choice was easy for me with the Z, since I wanted 6mt AND it was cheaper. I can't imagine this car being boring to drive with 7AT, though. If nothing else, the crowd on this forum who say it isn't boring, and who actually own the 7AT, probably convinces me that it's fun.

yeah it's same transmission as the G, although I don't know anything about slow response time. I'm a 7AT owner, and I honestly don't care if I'm driving MT or AT... the amount of people that scream at me about that is ridiculous. People have to go on a personal mission to prove to me that MT is better. I have just as much fun driving with the paddle shifters as I would with a stick.... and maybe even more because the shifters are more convenient to change gears.

I love when people tell me that I simply do not know how to drive stick good, that's why I drive AT. Always want to reply with "ye a 7AT 370z, meanwhile you're driving an Accord." But I can't say that cause that would make me sound like a spoiled douche.
