Dealership Scam?

On May 28th, I went in to a Nissan dealership to test drive a 370z, but I didn't buy because they did not have my color or my trim. I was told that they were holding a drawing contest for anyone who came in for a test drive to win $500. So I got the call today telling me that my name was drawn and I had won $500. I didn't call them back yet, but I am skeptical that this is merely a scam to try and get me to go back to the dealership. What do you guys think of this?

spitfire9200 06-02-2010 05:30 PM

what's the worst thing that could happen, you have to leave again?

it might be real crap

Exactly, go in and ask them for your money (if its cash or could be towards a Z purchase). If its that or they don't cooperate just leave!

Sibze 06-02-2010 05:32 PM

Could be - you won $500 off a 370z too

Cyberium 06-02-2010 05:34 PM

I'd guess 500 dollars towards a purchase of a new car. I wouldn't really call this a scam.

TongMan 06-02-2010 05:35 PM

I just got another call and I picked up. I talked with a lady who informed me that I can go pick up my $500 check from the dealership. I'm thinking its only going to be $500 off a car, if I buy it. The thing is that they don't have the car that I want.

09/10
Red
Base/Touring
6MT
Sports Package

They have a bunch of 7At that I don't want.

Have them order it/get it from another dealer. My dealership didn't have my car, but trust me they found it

:iagree:

Most dealerships have an exchange agreement set up. It could be worth investigating.

kenchan 06-02-2010 07:38 PM

If you're serious about getting a Z, go back, tell them which color you must have, work out a price without considering the $500 and use the $500 to get clearbra or other accessory of your choice installed.

TreeSemdyZee 06-02-2010 08:27 PM

Typical sales "tool". They will rubber hose the crap out of you when you get there. Make sure you have fully committed in your mind exactly what you want. They will try everything that they can to sell you what they have on the lot. They say that they can't give you as good of a deal on a dealer trade car, which is complete B.S. They don't pay when they do the trade, other than maybe a trucking fee.

PapoZalsa 06-02-2010 10:12 PM

Get your mula!

TongMan 06-03-2010 01:57 AM

I will stop by the dealership tomorrow afternoon to see if it's legit.

:iagree:

Zsteve 06-03-2010 06:41 AM

get a preapproved loan first then go down there and know the price it should be for the car you want.

red6spd 06-03-2010 07:47 AM

You tell them what you want and they will get it. I'm going on about a month and a half of waiting time because no dealer had my car, it was found on the ship on its way over from Japan.

If that's what she said, then what's so difficult to understand? Go get your money!!! While your there, ask for a quote. Then go to the other dealers and get their quotes. Then decide who you want to deal with.

TongMan 06-03-2010 10:06 AM

Ok...so I'll be heading to the dealership to claim my prize. I know for a fact that they will try to sell me one of their inventory Z's. Should I just settle for a 40th Z? I believe they have 2 40th Z on their lot last time I was there. If I can get the price down to 34k...possibly...good price?

Now, I want a Touring + Sport + 6MT
Bofore, the only difference is the Solid Red exterior.

m4a1mustang 06-03-2010 10:10 AM

Don't settle for something you don't want. You'll regret it later.

KillerBee370 06-03-2010 10:15 AM

Just go get your money. What are you worried about? Peer pressure? It's not like they're going to try to make you smoke a joint or anything. Lol

If I choose to buy the 40th Z, I can be driving it by the end of today. If I choose the Solid Red, I will not be in a Z until the end of this year. The 40th Z is growing on me. It's not a flashy color, but is really nice in person. How much more am I paying for the 40th package?

stormcrow 06-03-2010 10:32 AM

The 40th's color is much nicer than the Solid Red. But, if you prefer the red, then do not "settle" for the 40th. Just hold out to get what you want. Have you checked Autotrader, Cars.com or eBay for a 370 suited exactly as you want it?

I agree. The 40th looks way nice than Solid Red.

soCo 06-03-2010 10:40 AM

I wouldn't settle either, you're in Cali I'm sure theres a dealership somewhere that has a red z.

Contact some of the dealerships that use this forum, I'm sure they will be able to help you.

Wow, this coming from a solid red owner.

I have. There are none within 100 miles from my location.

Expand your search to include the entire country. I am sure you could work in shipping as part of the deal with just about any dealership. Especially one that is hurting right now. Look at dealerships in the obscure areas (rural) of the country.

Yeah...Invoice should be no problem.... A plane ticket and a cool roadtrip and the car you want will be in your garage! BTDT, getting ready to do it again!

m4a1mustang 06-03-2010 02:06 PM

Makes me sad that you're leaving us, Modshack!

I'm working on a deal for a 40th now at the dealership. What should I pay for it?

Maybe this will help?

TongMan 06-03-2010 08:51 PM

I got exhausted and left the dealership. They have 4 40th Anniversary 370z's and they won't budge past 37.2k...oh well. The wait continues.

Never be afraid to walk away. It was a good choice. That "free" 500 buck sure came back via the price of that car, no?

Zsteve 06-03-2010 09:25 PM

go back at the end of the month and say last chance, but again if you have a preapproved loan they might be more willing to deal. Get it for 35K and tell them thats all you can get. 370Zs are selling at invoice and slightly below.

:iagree: End of the month is the best time, and have your finance in order.

Jeffblue 06-03-2010 10:05 PM

37.2k for a 40th? thats bs. i paid 37.5k for a fully loaded. They need to start pricing the car for what it is. a touring/sport 370z. there is no nav. yea its a limited color, but... really? i dont think the price hike is warranted especially considering how many they have left to sell

No. I got the $500. No catch. They just handed me the check and said congrats. I was sure there was a catch, but apparently there wasn't.
