Dealership Scam?
On May 28th, I went in to a Nissan dealership to test drive a 370z, but I didn't buy because they did not have my color or my trim. I was told that they were holding a drawing contest for anyone who came in for a test drive to win $500. So I got the call today telling me that my name was drawn and I had won $500. I didn't call them back yet, but I am skeptical that this is merely a scam to try and get me to go back to the dealership. What do you guys think of this?

what's the worst thing that could happen, you have to leave again?
it might be real crap |

Could be - you won $500 off a 370z too
|
I'd guess 500 dollars towards a purchase of a new car. I wouldn't really call this a scam.
|
I just got another call and I picked up. I talked with a lady who informed me that I can go pick up my $500 check from the dealership. I'm thinking its only going to be $500 off a car, if I buy it. The thing is that they don't have the car that I want.
09/10 Red Base/Touring 6MT Sports Package They have a bunch of 7At that I don't want. |

Most dealerships have an exchange agreement set up. It could be worth investigating. |
If you're serious about getting a Z, go back, tell them which color you must have, work out a price without considering the $500 and use the $500 to get clearbra or other accessory of your choice installed.
|
Typical sales "tool". They will rubber hose the crap out of you when you get there. Make sure you have fully committed in your mind exactly what you want. They will try everything that they can to sell you what they have on the lot. They say that they can't give you as good of a deal on a dealer trade car, which is complete B.S. They don't pay when they do the trade, other than maybe a trucking fee.

I will stop by the dealership tomorrow afternoon to see if it's legit.

get a preapproved loan first then go down there and know the price it should be for the car you want.
|
You tell them what you want and they will get it. I'm going on about a month and a half of waiting time because no dealer had my car, it was found on the ship on its way over from Japan.

Ok...so I'll be heading to the dealership to claim my prize. I know for a fact that they will try to sell me one of their inventory Z's. Should I just settle for a 40th Z? I believe they have 2 40th Z on their lot last time I was there. If I can get the price down to 34k...possibly...good price?
Now, I want a Touring + Sport + 6MT Bofore, the only difference is the Solid Red exterior. |
Don't settle for something you don't want. You'll regret it later.
|
Just go get your money. What are you worried about? Peer pressure? It's not like they're going to try to make you smoke a joint or anything. Lol

If I choose to buy the 40th Z, I can be driving it by the end of today. If I choose the Solid Red, I will not be in a Z until the end of this year. The 40th Z is growing on me. It's not a flashy color, but is really nice in person. How much more am I paying for the 40th package?
|
The 40th's color is much nicer than the Solid Red. But, if you prefer the red, then do not "settle" for the 40th. Just hold out to get what you want. Have you checked Autotrader, Cars.com or eBay for a 370 suited exactly as you want it?

I wouldn't settle either, you're in Cali I'm sure theres a dealership somewhere that has a red z.
Contact some of the dealerships that use this forum, I'm sure they will be able to help you. |

I'm working on a deal for a 40th now at the dealership. What should I pay for it?
|
|
I got exhausted and left the dealership. They have 4 40th Anniversary 370z's and they won't budge past 37.2k...oh well. The wait continues.

go back at the end of the month and say last chance, but again if you have a preapproved loan they might be more willing to deal. Get it for 35K and tell them thats all you can get. 370Zs are selling at invoice and slightly below.

37.2k for a 40th? thats bs. i paid 37.5k for a fully loaded. They need to start pricing the car for what it is. a touring/sport 370z. there is no nav. yea its a limited color, but... really? i dont think the price hike is warranted especially considering how many they have left to sell
