Just took delivery on Z - Questions

I picked up the Z on Saturday after a 3 month wait. Super excited and I love the car. There are a couple of questions I have though, mostly concerning the condition of the car upon delivery.

I opted to detail the car myself, rather than have the dealer do it. The biggest thing I noticed is the amount of "rail dust/fallout" on the car. There are small black/red specs all over the car. Not really noticeable until you get up close, but they are there. I had them on my last car, but not nearly this bad. I did some like clay work on it but it wasn't too successful. The car also has some waterspotting.

My biggest concern has to do with the exhaust though. If I get under the car the exhaust look rusted right where they meet the piping running the length of the car. The bolts are caked in red. Is this just rail dust also? I only notice it on the exhaust and not anywhere else.

Other than those couple of things the car looks great.

Thanks for any advice.

EDIT: Will be going by dealer tonight to address concerns and will update post as soon as I get some more info.

Scary ... I'm getting mine in around two months time, so I'm interested in the answers.

mine had no rust spots but that can be removed with some polish if clay did not work.

as for the exhaust flange, mine had a little bit of rust that was visible from the back of the car, so i cleaned it with a wire brush, blasted with some cleaner, and shot some matte black engine enamel on it. looks perfectly clean.

the oem exhaust looks like that for everyone afaik. I don't think it's worth complaining about, I would just replace it anyways.... it's very restrictive and it is usually everyone's first mod here on the forums.

Paint is a different story, new car should always = new looking paint, no defects should be there.

good call on not letting them detail it. They would not have clayed the car, and would have grinded everything into the paint, so be happy about that. I would find a local professonal detailer and just have them do the car. The condition your paint is in right now, is worse than it will ever be. There are tiny shards of metal embedded in your paint, and you could certainly do it yourself, but for this big of a job, i'd just let a pro do it, and i am a big DIYer when it comes to detailing.

Be very careful with the paint on this car. I've had my car for 6 months now and have found the paint to be very soft and easily chipped and the clearcoat very vulnerable to light scratches. I would have an expert, professional detailer deal with this problem for you.

for anyone that's not too familar with detailing and scared to polish the car for swirls, try Prima Amigo before you wax. it's easy to use and fills up the haze very well and you can use either sealant (polymer) or wax on top of it.

you can buy from amazon.

i use it on cars with soft paints between polishes. very good results.
