But I think it'd be best to make one out of a solid piece instead of a sheet metal. I would most likely eliminate the bottom 2 bolt holes anyways because it's not really helping the license too much structurally. It should reduce the part size dramatically.

My thought was to replace the Plastic OEM center mount... The rough drawing I whipped up would be virtually invisible if painted black.. I left it as large as I did for support of the bottom of the plate once installed - so wind wouldn't bend it back into the grill and chip paint or whatever... Its just a thought. I feel the OEM mount is cheap at best, considering they put it on a nearly 40k car. Like they say - the devil is in the details... even a diamond bracelet would lose its luster if you wrapped it with a bow that had been dragged thru dog shiz....

DarkPath 06-16-2010 07:36 AM

Regarding the mill work on the emblem it is Bangin.... it should polish up brilliantly - but look pretty cool with the backing behind the Z brushed as well. Great Job... Subscribing!!

Red370 06-16-2010 07:36 AM

that thing looks f'in amazing, i'll take 5.

Endgame 06-16-2010 08:40 AM

Totally awesome!

XwChriswX 06-16-2010 09:45 AM

Coming in late... Exactly what is this? A replacement front emblem? You'd want a metal one?

Looks like a coaster but I'm guessing it's not finished yet lol.

Sibze 06-16-2010 09:49 AM

Do want... Right now... Sign me up for 2...

WShade 06-16-2010 10:11 AM

That is awesome! I want one for my desk.

kenchan 06-16-2010 10:20 AM

wow, nice job!

yah, that background needs paint.

wheee! 06-16-2010 10:24 AM

Start the sales! I would imagine an initial run of 100 would sell out instantly. Easily see 1000 of these going fairly quickly.

Count me in!!

wheee! 06-16-2010 10:36 AM

I would recommend that these badges be drilled and tapped out in the back to allow for two mounting bolts to secure them to the bumper. Would deter theft and reduce the chance of vibration shaking loose a relatively heavy badge from a tape only mount.:twocents:

tbonesteak 06-16-2010 10:56 AM

I want 2 RITE NOW and i have friends who are not active members or not members at all who would want their pairs as well. SOLD!!!! OMGGGGGGGGGG siiiik!

m4a1mustang 06-16-2010 10:57 AM

Hope you guys are working out some sort of licensing as this could get ugly.

Boosted Josh 06-16-2010 11:02 AM

It's not really that... I mean, if Nissan went after them it's not like they don't have a legitimate claim... Just want to make sure our guys are covered and work out a selling agreement with Nissan instead of just taking a chance...

tbonesteak 06-16-2010 11:19 AM

m4, im not saying you're wrong. In fact, you are completely right and i agree w you....it's just that theoretically, this emblem makes the z owners happy. I dont think nissan should sue when these members are making their clients content for something that nissan was not able to produce. The way corporates think is just very straight forward: to make a quick buck or two, instead of seeing the bigger picture of everyone being happy. All i'm saying is that it's unfortunate that the system had to turn out the way it did. Anyway sorry to go off topic. I won't post about this anymore.

That's exactly what I was gonna do when we put it on. lol....I've had enough $100 emblems stolen too many times. But then again, I guess you can't really stop someone from leaving a pry mark on your bumper for trying.....

If I could hook it up to the battery to tase someone trying to steal, the better.

The letter "Z" cannot be trademarked. The stylized version we use in the badge may be construed as a copyrighted logo, however, we have not used it in a manner that would damage the holders original intention, to identify a 370Z. If we placed it on a Honda.... different story!

In the end, the 370Z is still being represented by a factory stylized "Z" similar to the steering wheel logo. I see no court in the world that would convict us for this emblem for this specific use!

Build on! And make mine a front and rear order!!

As a foot note, it IS possible to wire the logo up to a capacitor that would detect finger touches (change in capacitance) and have that wired to the cars alarm sytem when armed... just a thought. :stirthepot:

HAHA, you're AWESOME! :bowrofl: I hope you're right.

About the car alarm thing, sorry to ask questions like an engineer....depending on the sensitivity level of the current wouldn't we now have to constantly worry about the car going off whenever it rains or mist touches it? Or worst, blow something out if something unforeseeable that can cause this system go haywire? Just a thought but am very interested in this idea...hehehe. Gotta love creative people like you.

Whether or not we use it in the way the manufacturer intended doesn't matter. You could slap it on your *** for all they care.

The bottom line is producing this for sale is infringment of intellectual property and can result in some big legal trouble if you don't go through the proper channels to work out a licensing agreement.

I just want to make sure our guys cover their bases before putting these things up for sale.

wheee! 06-16-2010 01:21 PM

Well then let's not sell them... I say make them free with $XX dollars shipping and "handling"! :stirthepot:

m4a1mustang 06-16-2010 01:28 PM

Haha!

Hopefully you are right. And perhaps Nissan won't even care, and may perceive it as free advertising. But it should be checked out. At least I would if I was selling this type of stuff. I hope it all works out, I would buy these badges. Nice work.

http://www.t-shirthumor.com/Merchant...ze/cvas_lg.gif

I wonder how complicated it is, people that sells License plate frames that has the Z logo (I'd say pretty representable) still went through the whole Copyright process....I'm sure they have to get permission and pay Nissan to manufacture those frames. Unless there's some loop hole I'm not aware of....i.e. not making it exactly the same. But remembering something from my engineering college course about patents and copyright, I think even if it slightly represents the company copyright logo, you may be infringing their patent. I just have to find out the process if we do this legally. That and also see if there's even a market for this as this initially wasn't an idea to make money. But like all business, in order to keep it running, you need to cover a lot of expenses and a profit to keep it running. Otherwise, why should anyone make things at cost when they could just make 1 or 2 for themselves and just call it a day?

Either way, while all this legal stuff is true, I find it kind of funny because we're simply putting a Z logo where it belongs....
