Not saying they aren't worth it, and I'm assuming you would be adding very little mark-up to make it worth your while, but still -- ouch. That is a bit high for an emblem, even a beautiful one.

Don't ever ask a skilled artisan to sell his work cheap. Time, skilz, training, raw materials and hundred thousand $+ CNC machines (that you're getting the benefit of for free) don't come without a price....

This. It's a one-off, custom item. He must be undertaking great personal expense to produce these things. The bonus is that the piece will be relatively unique and very high quality.

My momma always said...

"be sure to get what you like or you'll be forced to like what you get...." ;)

I will forgo my CBE system to have these badges if necessary. That is how much I appreciate custom work like this! Props to the OP's.

and easily stolen... :icon14:

wheee! 06-21-2010 04:49 PM

not if it is bolted on from behind....

kenchan 06-21-2010 04:53 PM

then you end up with screw driver pry marks. :icon14:

i would only put this on if your car's garaged and hobby car.

Well, she is a Garage queen! :icon17:

But, add a capacitance sensor (think touch lamp circuit) to the emblem and wire it to the alarm system. One touch of a hand or metal device will trigger the alarm.... simple!!

I'm not suggesting he sell these for a penny less than their worth...

I'm suggesting that a couple hundred bucks for hood ornaments is expensive.

He could make these out of gold, and they might be valued in the thousands and sought out by rare art collectors, but again, these are hood ornaments :icon14:

I'm sure someone will buy them, and probably a spare set too. I think this is a great project, but given a choice between putting my lunch money towards lunch or hood ornaments, I'll take lunch :icon17:

kenchan 06-21-2010 04:56 PM

wheee- sounds like you got the right setup and now "qualify" for purchase. :D hahaha.

wheee! 06-21-2010 04:58 PM

:icon17: I certainly am interested in the final product! Would love to set one up with the capacitance circuit too, then post a DIY.

Of course it is....Especially for something that most won't distinguish from the plastic at 10 feet away. You pay for the quality and uniqueness...What it is worth to a buyer is up to them..

I won't speculate on price. When he is done and adds up his exspences and values his time and effort, he will offer them to us at a price. We will then except the price or not. As with all product, the most exspensive it item the smaller the customer base is. And he already stated that he does want to make a lot of these.

I have not offered anything for sale, when and IF I do, I will most certainly become a vendor, I have already spoken to AK about this.

Also, I find comments like

Best of luck AgStacker, your efforts are slowly but surely pushing me towards trying my luck milling a logo out myself
