The advantage of the 7at is the ability to have either world, lazy driving or manual mode sport driving. The 6mt is always a stick and sometimes (heavy traffic) that's as far from fun as it gets.

So when you consider the above point and combine that with the stellar stats of the 370's 7at, it's not a tough decision IMO.

But if you still want to do it, for gods sakes sell the car don't trade it, you will get bent over big time. I never trade cars in unless I don't think they will sell. You will have zero problems selling a 370 they are tough to get. You will likely sell it in a few days unless you live in a rural area, and you will get the most money possible for it. A dealer is going to lowball you like crazy on a trade.

The extra gear over the 6MT generates more downforce, therefore it is faster in the corners as well. :stirthepot:

Wow... I did not know that. Need to remove x_x out of my "what I drive" section. lol

Exactly, because according to nissan tests the manual is faster

zZSoCalZz 05-19-2010 03:11 PM

So... The manual is faster?

The 7AT has more aggressive low-end gearing than the 6MT, which allows it to post strong 1/4 mile numbers. If that metric is your basis for "faster," then maybe not. It's really just a gimmick, IMHO.

Just buy a supercharger instead ://
with the money you're about to blow.. might as well.

I am so glad I got my 6MT.

wishihadnav 05-19-2010 04:05 PM

yeah for the Z i'll have to agree that MT is the way to go...i just avoid traffic..haha

Well that depends on where you are, in most metro area's there are plenty of them for sale on dealers lots and some used one's in ad's. Many of those on dealers lots here in the DFW and HOU area's have been there for quite a while now as well........

You are going to get hit with 6k or so. I suggest you to drive the AT for 2 years or so and then trade it in for a new one. U'll probably get hit w/ 8-10k after 2 years. that's only 2-4k on top of what you lose today but you'll be driving a 2012 with no mileage instead of a 2010 (and whatever mileage you put on it) on the day you trade it in.

Make sense?

A true sports car like the Z needs to be a MT. I test drove a 7at just to see what the ride was like and all I can say is yawnnnnn. An Auto is an Auto there is a computer always there second guessing you. The downshifts lagged and it just felt like a good old SlushBox

7AT's are great for smokers... They can use that extra hand for holding the cig

Lol, what about us with busted knee's.....I had a bad skiing accident followed by car accident 3 years later. :eekdance:

I was faced with this dilemna 10 years ago...I did not make that same mistake this time around with my Z. Its too late for you to get the 6 speed without getting hanmered money wise! Do as others have mentioned and ride it out for a little longer until your depreciation/debt level out somewhat. The again.... 2012 IS around the corner :stirthepot:

There is no lag anywhere in manual mode on the 7at. It shifts faster than a human can.

I dont know... seemed like it lagged to me. You sure your not confusing the 7at in the Z to a Twin Clutch set-up in like an EVO.

It's nearly instant. I drive it every day. Now in auto mode of course it at times will lag big time, as any auto will do. eg. when you jump on the throttle, it hesitates for a second before the downshift. But in manual mode, there is no lag, you hit the paddle and it shifts, or you punch the throttle and your head snaps back (assuming you're in a good spot on the torque curve/correct gear), unless it senses the gear will put you outside of an allowable rpm.

Well I'm sure you know more the I do seeing is you drive one and well I have been waiting for mine since 4/20... But maybe I'm just use to the direct feeling of a stick. So the auto is faster in the quarter and 0-60 right?? has anyone with an Auto raced a MT from like a 30 40 roll? wonder who would win.
