Z Safety? Girlfriend Refusing to Hop In. >_<

Well, the lovely lady is terrified of the Z (and sports cars in general), since she was used to riding around with me in a big, comfy E38 prior to my Z purchase.

I need some sort of document, article...Anything credible saying the Z is a relatively safe car. :\

Thanks,
M

There are quite a few things I'd do for love, but giving up my new Z? No way.

Funny thing, both her and her mother drive like Mercedes-Benz bats straight out of hell. Her Mom drives some blaring red S class and the girlfriend has an ML350 for racing around.

But as soon as you introduce something lighter than two tons, she runs for cover. Go figure.

Nah, I'm quite happy with long, wavy brunette.

Try consumer report.

Cyberium 04-27-2010 01:45 AM

Maybe she's just using the whole "safety" thing as an excuse... maybe she just doesn't want to be seen with you?

I mean, this is the first time i've ever heard of a girl not wanting to get into a sports car because it's crash rating isn't up to par with a german tank.

Total fail in my book.

fairladyZ34 04-27-2010 01:45 AM

i was just kidding with the window sticker. im pretty sure the Z wasnt crash rated:ugh2:

>Implying you know my girlfriend better than I do.

Update: Did some digging... Apparently the Z has never been crash tested officially. Crap.

:iagree: and the car hasent been tested so till then, looks like shes not ridding in it.

kevin.z 04-27-2010 01:56 AM

The whole reason i drive a sports car is because it is safer. I have so much control over the car. If anything happens( ie accidents), I have total control over my car.
As for suvs, unless u drive a rangerover, there is no way it is safer than a sports car. Everything is stubborn and not controlled by you (cus of computers these days)
I dont get the mentality of how sports cars are dangerous. When you drive fast, u obviously increase your chances of risk. But if you drive normally, like other normal cars, how could bigger brakes, wider tires, sharper handling not help you?

memorylasts 04-27-2010 01:58 AM

\\HIGHLY RANDOM
maybe it is your driving another car kinda crazy like before you have and you met her in before the z. and now you have a sports car thats faster and smaller.... just a thought

Light-weight, low to the ground, small, majority of body made of plastic...

kevin.z 04-27-2010 02:12 AM

lightweight = high maneuverability. Doesnt matter if body made of plastic. FYI, 370z fenders are made of steel and doors are aluminum. It is only bumpers that is plastic.
I guess i just dont understand how s-class or ml350 is safer than 370z. Does she have documents to prove it? All the electronic safety gadgets are for people who dont care about cars. These people tend to be bad drivers.
I also had a girl who wouldnt sit in my car because she thinks it is dangerous. Just 2 weeks ago she t-boned someone else in her nice bmw 330ci coupe. That is her 3rd accident in 1 year.
Talk about asian women cant drive ....sigh....

Cyberium 04-27-2010 02:18 AM

I think sports cars in general get a bad safety rap because people think that in order to shed weight that structual integrity is sacrificed therefore making the car less safe in an accident situation. Which is probably true to a certain extent... but I've seen some serious Z crashes and it appears that the "cockpit" of the car is usually untouched where as the front is completly smashed in.

With that being said... I still feel safe in my Z.

SkyZ 04-27-2010 02:45 AM

haha crash safety is a deep subject and cannot really be understood by anyone but a pro, but if u need proof there are a few crashed Zs on this site, i the 2thextreme or w.e his name was wrote one off and bought another. he was perfectly fine after an accident that wrote off his car.

as for logic (argument for ur gf), the 370z has a very rigid chassis. lightweight does not mean flimsy. if it did, all sports cars would shatter at the first corner. lots of structural braces, lots of safety equipment lots of safety stuff.

if she has any more complaints show her the fifth gear crash test with a small hatchback renault with a 5 star safety rating vs a big *** volvo station wagon. the results speak for themselves. i'll even link you. here u go YouTube - Fifth Gear Crash-test Volvo 940 estate vs Renault Modus this proves that crash safety is not about who has the biggest car.

Vegitto-kun 04-27-2010 03:27 AM

we have that metal energy absorbing bar no?

think I saw it during the stillen intake install.

so I guess we shoudl get atleast 3-4 stars

m4a1mustang 04-27-2010 05:21 AM

And this is a problem how?

texasviking 04-27-2010 05:40 AM

Just have her open the door and 'look at how thick it is'... Then, show her all of the airbag logos...

My girl was a little 'iffy' at first, but now she begs at an opportunity to take the hotness!

Jeffblue 04-27-2010 06:18 AM

can someone inform me why the z wasn't crash test rated? i mean.... that new mclaren is being crash test rated. i don't see why they can't crash test a 25-40k car.

How about you post a pict of your girl and we decide if she's Z worthy?

FuszNissan 04-27-2010 06:46 AM

2theextreme crashed 2 Z's and he is still alive..lol

fullmonty 04-27-2010 06:58 AM

If I was you, I'd tell her to start walking or find another boyfriend. Plus what the hell's she doing out of the kitchen anyway?

Jeffblue 04-27-2010 06:58 AM

uh oh, i hope this doesn't turn into the ACURAZINE divorce thread. this could get messy.

There is a bit more plastic than that. The entire hatch is plastic, as well as the pillars. The sideskirts might be too, but I'm not sure.

the hatch=the trunk on a sedan=the hatch on an SUV etc. That flimsy door doesn't protect from anything in an accident. There is no way the pillars are plastic underneath. If the car rolled you would just get crushed.

All I was saying is that there is more plastic on the car than he thought, nothing more than that. :icon14:

Jeffblue 04-27-2010 07:46 AM

point taken. but from your discription, you made it seem like we were driving around in a really nice looking one of these:

flashburn 04-27-2010 07:58 AM

A faster one of those!

Jeffblue 04-27-2010 08:26 AM

well, when i could fit in one of those, i had a quarter mile time of 10 mins. so if you think you can beat that in your "Z" with its "engine" and "transmission" and "functioning steering wheel" then i think we may have to race.

Dude me want!

kannibul 04-27-2010 08:48 AM

Turn it around - ask her why she thinks it's unsafe. Then use that ammo to demolish whatever she drives.

lolwut?

Hood, doors and hatch are aluminum. Aluminum is stronger than steel by weight...

Front bumper and rear bumper are plastic. Same with 99% of cars out there these days...side skirts are plastic, but there's steel underneath...they're decorative!

The rest is steel.

Red370 04-27-2010 09:02 AM

I'd dump this chick in a heartbeat. A woman not wanting to get into a sports car isnt a woman to me.
