I think sports cars in general get a bad safety rap because people think that in order to shed weight that structual integrity is sacrificed therefore making the car less safe in an accident situation. Which is probably true to a certain extent... but I've seen some serious Z crashes and it appears that the "cockpit" of the car is usually untouched where as the front is completly smashed in.

With that being said... I still feel safe in my Z.

haha crash safety is a deep subject and cannot really be understood by anyone but a pro, but if u need proof there are a few crashed Zs on this site, i the 2thextreme or w.e his name was wrote one off and bought another. he was perfectly fine after an accident that wrote off his car.

as for logic (argument for ur gf), the 370z has a very rigid chassis. lightweight does not mean flimsy. if it did, all sports cars would shatter at the first corner. lots of structural braces, lots of safety equipment lots of safety stuff.

if she has any more complaints show her the fifth gear crash test with a small hatchback renault with a 5 star safety rating vs a big *** volvo station wagon. the results speak for themselves. i'll even link you. here u go YouTube - Fifth Gear Crash-test Volvo 940 estate vs Renault Modus this proves that crash safety is not about who has the biggest car.

And this is a problem how?

Just have her open the door and 'look at how thick it is'... Then, show her all of the airbag logos...

My girl was a little 'iffy' at first, but now she begs at an opportunity to take the hotness!

can someone inform me why the z wasn't crash test rated? i mean.... that new mclaren is being crash test rated. i don't see why they can't crash test a 25-40k car.

I need some sort of document, article...Anything credible saying the Z is a relatively safe car. :\

Thanks,

How about you post a pict of your girl and we decide if she's Z worthy?

If I was you, I'd tell her to start walking or find another boyfriend. Plus what the hell's she doing out of the kitchen anyway?

Jeffblue 04-27-2010 06:58 AM

uh oh, i hope this doesn't turn into the ACURAZINE divorce thread. this could get messy.

lightweight = high maneuverability. Doesnt matter if body made of plastic. FYI, 370z fenders are made of steel and doors are aluminum. It is only bumpers that is plastic.

There is a bit more plastic than that. The entire hatch is plastic, as well as the pillars. The sideskirts might be too, but I'm not sure.

the hatch=the trunk on a sedan=the hatch on an SUV etc. That flimsy door doesn't protect from anything in an accident. There is no way the pillars are plastic underneath. If the car rolled you would just get crushed.
