hey guys i need some help

so i was showing my friend my car and i had my key in my left hand in the speaker of the car thats to the drivers left hand side on top of the steering wheel. problem is my key fell through the gaps of the steering wheel and i cant get the key out what should i do? i spent over an hour with all my friends tryng to get the key out but nothing works..Additionally thorugh the gaps of the steeering wheel there is a little opening in which i figured it must have fallen in thorugh...damn it lol:shakes head:

fatcat777 04-23-2010 09:24 PM

Seriously? I read this 3 times and I still have no clue what you're saying.

edconline 04-23-2010 09:31 PM

Ok, I had to go out to my car for this one.. are you saying that it fell down off the dash, into the spot behind the steering wheel (assuming the steering wheel was adjusted to the lowest position?) and then slipped down into the space further towards the front of the car?

fatcat777 04-23-2010 09:37 PM

read it a 4th time. You had your hand in the speaker and the key fell through the steering wheel?

edconline 04-23-2010 09:41 PM

Dude, just realized, no big deal this is where the push button start comes in.. the key will always be at hand (well not at hand, but close by) so you can still drive! Just don't park her in sketchy neighbourhoods lol

fullmonty 04-23-2010 11:28 PM

Take it to the dealer I guess?

fatcat777 04-24-2010 12:32 AM

ok so i went out and looked and tried to understand. i think i see where you dropped your fob. I would get a grabber tool like this

http://toolmonger.com/wp-content/upl...rabbertool.jpg

you should be able to retrieve it.

cab83_750 04-24-2010 01:54 AM

Can you lower the steering wheel to have better access?

That's what I suggest, lower the steering wheel and see if you can fish it out with a short piece of a metal coat hanger if not try to remove the lower steering case cover. for the time being manually lock your car and use the extra till you get it removed.... good luck

Theres also a tool you can get thats an extendable boom magnet that should stick to the keyring and atleast show you where it is, you snake it in there then fish it around until you hear the keys move or stick to the magnet, then slowly retract it back out. Thats what I have to do most of the time, works best with nuts or bolts or screws that fall behind something too narrow to get your hand through. You can get it @ AutoZone for $10> I believe.

If you can't do it yourself? Take it to the dealer.

m4a1mustang 04-24-2010 12:25 PM

I'm sure you just have to pop off some of the interior panels to access the space it's in. Who knows. Take it to the dealer -- they'll laugh at you but they'll get it out.

But yeah, they'll laugh.... a lot. I'm sure they'll call all of the other service techs and even the sales guys over to look at the car and have one big group laugh... so just be prepared for the embarrassment.

Take it to the dealer :)

LOL it depends... just take it in. They might laugh so hard that they'll do it for free.

I mean, this isn't a warranty issue... :icon18:

My guess is if it was that important you wouldn't be putting it in situations where it could slip through the cracks. :roflpuke2:
