Anyway, I think I read up somewhere that there's a special mode for paddle shifters, unless they were referring to something else. I guess we'll wait and see.

I don't advocate the purchase of Prius' :D Though I am sure a 332 hp Prius would be pretty fun to drive lol

It doesn't bother me that people buy automatics and I won't judge you for it, I just had to riff you guys for it.

Sitting in traffic does not allow for the use of much horsepower, thus my feelings on getting a (more) comfortable car for such uses. If I had to sit in traffic and also wanted a fun weekend car (but could only afford one vehicle) I would "suffer" the heavy traffic driving in a manual and reap the reward on the weekends at the track or back roads.

But like I said, I haven't really driven a performance biased "automatic" so I can't judge.

I meant no offense.

Lol, I knew someone would say something eventually. I like being able to choose between cruising comfortably around town, or tearing it up like a maniac! A 7AT sports car, with a manual mode will do that for me.

+1. I agree.

First off, this is my first post. Glad to see there are others as pumped as I am for the 370. I'm having trouble deciding on the transmission myself. I'm on my 3rd Z and it's an 07 coupe 6speed. I love manuals, but the occasional traffic jam is irritating. My first was a 04 coupe 6speed, then I went to an 06 automatic roadster. I wasn't satisfied at all with the automatic in the 06, but I'm 6'2" and the legroom is much less in the roadsters (couldn't depress the clutch in the manuals). Basing the decision on older z models isn't logical as the 370 will have a 7 speed paddle shift compared to a 5 speed no paddle 06. So what it comes down to is probably hearing reviews on the new rev matching manual. If it works like they say then town/traffic driving might be more tolerable. Has anyone heard any reviews on the rev match manual, also any word on the shift time on the auto?

Hello and welcome

You bring up some good questions about the new 7AT, and I don't think the answers are there just quite yet. From early reviews it sounds like the new manual works very well, but I have yet to read anything about the 7AT.

I am interested to see how well it performs as compared to other aggressive automatic sports cars, but when it comes down to it the thing is still a tradition automatic and not a dual clutch auto manual. I would like to drive the new 7AT and try out the flappy paddles - but I would most certainly plan on buying the manual.

I guess it largely depends on your commute and tastes. Ask yourself why you want to stick with the Z and what it is that you like about it, undoubtedly the manual shifting is part of that experience.

Ok I have owned six vehicles in my life. 4 automatics and two manuals, one a five spd, and one 6spd. I have never owned a legit paddle shifter, or sequential shifter.

My question is, can you heat your tires with a 7AT?, Is it just that fast off the line, or is there a way? Not having a clutch pedal confuses me when you have shifting options.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question.

nah stick to manual

The same 7 speed automatic is in both the g37 sedan and coupe along with the paddle shifters, etc... You can go to infiniti G sites to read about what people say about it or go to one of the mags (motortrend, etc...) and see what they say about it. I have the 5 speed auto with the paddle shifters in my G and love it. I've read nothing but positive things about the 7 speed, faster, slightly better fuel economy, fast shifting, etc... The manual won't be much faster than the 7 speed auto if at all...

^^ I totally agree with you.

I did not know they were same, but I don't really frequent the Infinity boards so I stand corrected.

I assume the gearing has changed some in the switch?

I will have to drive one to try it out.

You would think there probably would be differences in gearing simply because they're different vehicles but I know that G sedans/coupes aren't geared conservatively (they're suppose to compete with cars like the bmw 3 series) so the gearing ratios might be closer than we'd expect... I used to have a V6 2003 Nissan Altima SE and that is the only Nissan/Infiniti car I've driven that I didn't care for the gearing (they were still using 4 speeds in the automatics back then).
