Get a portable drill. Get a 1" hole saw.

Go to the dealership that put the hole in your car.

Proceed to put 1" holes in all the Nissan vehicles on the lot, to match how they did yours.

and when they come out screaming and yelling, all pissed off, tell them its the state law and your helping them comply, maybe they'll understand why your all pissed off too.

nah probably not, they'll just sue you and you cant sue them (or so they say!)

They actually drilled his painted bumper cover...not just the black plastic with the "dimples" or pilots from the factory.

Whaaaaaat!!! no way, that is wrong. This needs to get resolved, give that man a new bumper cover.

Did that dealership do this to every 370z that they sold??

KB.. I'm guessing that his car already came with holes drilled and he perhaps didn't want that. Upon taking it back to the dealer and asking for a fresh replacement bumper with no holes, the dealer told him they were instructed via California law/ DMV requirements (which there are none) and now he's pissed.

I think he lives in Virginia. I do also and mine came with the bracket already mounted but the holes were only about 1/8" and easy to plug. Virginia has no such law about hole size or pre-drilling they just require a front plate be installed when the car is on the road.

It could be worse. They drilled holes in my bumper and my state doesn't require the front plate. So now I just have holes.

Wow, I would have refused delivery of the blue car.

You'll need to take them to court. They say they are right. You say they are wrong. Let the judge decide.

Take LOTS of pictures and use bold yellow arrows indicating where the holes should be drilled for mounting the license plate holder, and that they are only there for the grommets.

I'm still debating on what I will do when my plates arrive. I don't want to drill and I don't want to spend the $$$ for the Stillen front plate mount. I may take my chances for a while and see if I get pulled over.

When I bought in CT, the dealer handed me the front plate and hardware. CT uses front plates but that is ignored by many. I once got pulled over by a cop in my old SUV and he asked me where my fron plate was, I told him the mount broke and I ordered a new one. He said OK and left.

My suggestion: Move!

oh DAMN! that's completely messed up.

Your dealer is an idiot, it's as simple as that.....Personally I would have refused the car.

I believe they used this device to make the holes:

PA is actually one of the few states that doesn't require front plates.

steveg78 03-29-2010 05:06 PM

my bad. I could have sworn I've seen PA cars with front plates. Lucky!

Florida ftw. That bites though. I can understand the OP's frustration. It is difficult at times to get a straight answer from large corporations.

mounted plate holder

When I showed up to pick up my car someone mounted the plate holder ,I ASKED them NOT TO but they did well.... in return the dealership got a new undrilled bumper they installed my radar behind the bumper and the stillen gen3 intakes plus sold me the nismo front lip AND installed it at cost of lip (like$550?) see pic's. I believe the only reason they did this cus I inspected the car BEFORE I signed any papers!

Mize 03-29-2010 05:52 PM

OH requires front plates and my Z came with the plate holder installed :(
I ran my MX-5 Miata with no front plate the last two years with no problems so Ohio's cops don't seem to care much and it looks sooo much better not having a front plate.
