Magnetic Oil Drain Plug danger?

Hi all,

I just purchased a Tiktek magnetic oil drain plug
TiTek Magnetic Drain Bolt
I am debating if I should use it. It looks kinda danagerous if the magnet falls off inside the oil pan. Has anyone experienced any problems with Titek magnetic plugs?

Falls off inside the pan, like, the magnet completely separates from the bolt? That doesn't seem likely, but there are also other designs available that may look more secure to you.

Doubtful. I think alot of people have used those and similar brands without too much trouble. I used the Peak Performance drain bolt. I use one on the Z and on my wifes Toyota and all good so far. If anything if the magnet came off I think it would just stick to the pan, it's steel.

Yeah, even on the 1 in a million chance the magnet did come off, I dont think it would be an issue.

dont really see how even if the seal keeping the magnet in place degraded how the magnet would fall off. it would still be magnetized and stuck to the bolt.

That's what I have, recommended by AK. Perhaps you may want something like that seems it appears a bit more fail safe compared to the other.

The magnet is typically additionally secured with an anaerobic adhesive that can withstand heat. I've used many a magnetic drain plug, and ones not as nice as the one you purchased, and none have failed and released the magnet. I've used ones the protrude as much as yours and a bit more. Use and enjoy it!

i can almost guarantee you that the magnet goes down into the center of the threads, its not just glued on top of a bolt but i can be wrong. just get the KICS for (peice of mind), although the one you were looking at seems like it will collect the shavings better. write an email or call and ask how its made..

Yes, it is slid down a bore in the bolt—NOT just glued to the top of the end of the bolt.

I have TiTek and have experienced no problems so far. It is very well crafted. I attached some pics to share. I actually was suppose to have the KICS but they called me and told me it was out of stock and they were going to ship me the TiTek, which are a little more expensive, so I didn't have to wait. I asked if there were any differences and they said the TiTek was what they actually recommend.

The bolt is aluminum, that's why its anadized.

Isn't the oil pan steel? If it is, then should the magnet fall off (which is highly unlikely) it would attach to the inside of the oil pan.

No kidding.

The things we find to worry about when we love our possessions...

I'm going to start the "windshield wiper blade looks like it could fall off and just fly away" thread shortly. :)
