370Z review by a BMW snob
I think you guys will get a kick out of this:
test drove a 370Z 40th anniversary; comparo to the German cars we love - bimmerfest - BMW Forums |
Interesting first post. :stirthepot:

I can understand a BMW driver and his perspective on things, they do drop about 10k more on a similar power/performance/handling vehicle and you do get a few more "upgrades." The issue I had with these upgrades is, not needed in a sports car, useless weight, and even BMW uses some low quality materials. Maybe a step up above Nissan, but still pretty "meh" from the few cars I drove when test driving. Also love the "drilled rotors" comment, great eye. |
Just got to let it go. They have their opinions and we have ours.
I do find the "passion" comment funny, though. Like a 3-Series sedan was ever built with more "passion" than any other mass produced sedan out there. Please! |
I'll take him for a test drive. :stirthepot:

Oh, well...what would you expect from a BMW owner?
|
I can see this thread being long and not accomplishing much, but hey thats what makes it fun. We are ricers and the BMW guys are snobs, so there we have it.

I am sure there are plenty of BMW drivers who push their car, but when I see some of them try it is nothing I do on a daily rate. But to each their own, I love my car, I would love a BMW if they made something I wanted. |

I liked this response to the ricer comment
[QUOTE=madmax2k1;460823] <table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr> <td class="alt2" style="border: 1px inset;"> Originally Posted by BMW Option http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/ima...s/viewpost.gif The very definition of boy ricer car. </td> </tr> </tbody></table> Maybe so, but this is the car which saved the world for stylish relatively inexpensive sports cars. The 370Z can be traced seamlessly back to the 240Z (known as the Fairlady outside the US). That model led America into the modern generation of performance cars. In earlier years sports cars had to leak or have electrical problems (British), or be high strung and pricey (Italian), or pricey with a 3 pointed star on the hood (German), or be made in Trollhatten and have no dealer suupport. Or they could be a Corvette. The 'Z' was none of those. It was quiet (meaning rattle free), reliable, capable, fast and cheap. It was an unheard of combination. American drivers went after them like baseball fans go after hot dogs. You may say it defines 'ricer'. I say you're so far off the mark you might as well say the 'Z' has no place in history. Give it at least this much: If there were never a 240Z there would not be a Z4 today. It's the competition which has sharpened BMW over the years, and led to it's modern lineup. |
im sorry but they are idiots.. bmw 3 series.. and fun to drive dont belong in the same sentence..
|
That made me laugh, in a good way :icon17:. Nice critique, sounds like he should be chipping onto the green @ a country club. I'll buy a bmw sports car when i'm 50, maybe... For now, tho, I'll take all the fun at a fraction of the cost.
Besides, i'm not trying to impress country club mamas. I'm trying to fill my Z with hot young babes! |
My wife loves her 3 series...:stirthepot:

[Sarcasm] Guys, those BMW guys have shown me the light. I can't belive I was so foolish to buy a ricer 370Z. I wish the BMW dealer wasn't closed for the night or I'd go trade in this ricer out car.[/Sarcasm]
|
BMW is over priced. Especially the 3 series.
|
ok..so going by the review...He didn't rev it over 5k rpm and couldn't drive it hard enough to test the car yet he felt more flex in the integrity of the car compared to german cars...
I mean god.. our car goes to 7500rpm, max torque at 5200rpm what does he expect? Monster low end torque? |
so he went with a girlie car? :stirthepot: jk;)
|
In my defense i will post this:
The craziest damn thing you'll hear today: 80% of BMW 1 Series owners think their car is FWD — Autoblog |
It’s comparing apples to oranges….2 door sports coupe to a 4 door sedan.
On Top Gear, the Stig recorded a faster lap in the 370Z vs. BMW Z4 TT I6…..apples to apples! |

First time I've read that |
I like driving my BMW 3 series. Our cars are more expensive and heavier so they are better. My favorite thing to do in my BMW is to fart, put the air on recirculate, so i can savor the wonderful smell of my BMW-Owning flatulence.

I LOVE my cross drilled rotors :wtf2:
(aka, find me a single factory 370Z with a cross drilled rotor....oh, that's right. None of them have'm) |
So how long until they find their way over here and we have to deal with their smug cloud?
|
BMWs are very nice cars... but i drove a 335i several times... and stock for stock the Z imo is more exciting.. The model I drove had no nav and while the craftmenship was very nice and the color combo was beautiful (black with red leather). The price he paid for the car was WAY to high for what you get. Granted a chip and some coilovers would prob change my mind some, but I wouldnt trade mine for his and keep my same payment.
To each is own though.. I will say I have gotten compliments from BMW drivers though so not all of them are haters.. |
I'm a former owner of a 330 and the current owner of a 645 and the BMW's driving experience is vastly different than that of the Z. Not better, not worse, just different.
I'm a car enthusiast and I enjoy what different "personalities" each car has. I've owned many Nissan products including the 240, 300, 350, and now the 370z. The Nissan I enjoyed the most and owned the longest? A 1998 Nissan Maxima SE, 6 spd. I bought it new and loved it for years and put a zillion miles on it. My point, don't be close minded. My BMW isn't better than my Z, it's just different. |
I'm not trying to knock bmw's or german cars either. I just hate so much the type of people who are posting in the other thread. The "soulless" comment gets to me the most.
Besides my 370z, I drive a bmw x5, my mom drives a bmw x5, my dad drives a bmw 650i, my sister drives an audi q7 and my father also owns a 1978 porsche 911sc targa originally imported from germany. We've owned a crapload of german cars(bmw, porsche, mercedes), yet I(and my father the times he's driven my car) love the 370z. |

Anyways, done with this thread, drive what you love and love what drive. |
only 3 series i'd pick over the 370z is the M3! 328 and 335 are SOOOOOO boring... M3 got me going crazy! so in summary... m3 > 370z > G37 > 335 coupe or sedan > 328.
|
Just link the Top Gear episode. :V
I cross shopped the 3 series. It isn't a sports car. It's a luxury coupe with sporting appeal. Also they lost all respect from me when they said the Miata had no soul. Are they kidding? Spec Miata? Probably one of the most loyal fanbases on the planet? I'd never really have one as convertibles aren't my thing, but damn. That's like saying Corvettes have no heritage. edit: also, I looked at the M3 -- it isn't the old M3. It's a great car, but it isn't the same feel as the previous gen. |
