I can't wait. :excited: Best Motoring is one of my personal favorite. Which car do you think won?

blacknbean 01-27-2009 02:37 PM

i love best motoring but i feel i miss a big part of the input from the drivers not knowing what they are saying...ive only seen a few that are translated

either way im really looking foward to this!

i think its gunna go down like this

911 (pdk pwns on the track)
cayman s
135/Z (its gunna be close)
s2000

SnakeBitten 01-27-2009 04:38 PM

Im gonna pick the PDK 911 as well with the 370z coming in 2nd. I know I might catch flak for this but BM is purely entertainment to me and the results speak more about the drivers skill than the cars imho. Lots of blocking, missed lines or shifting etc but I like the show. Nice find AK

nismoflip6 01-27-2009 04:53 PM

Man...I can't to watch this battle!

AK370Z 01-27-2009 05:12 PM

Does anyone have any friends or relatives in Japan? They have released this DVD in Japan. Upon further investigation I find out that they can't release it outside Japan due to "copyright" issues. If someone in Japan can buy it and ship it to me, I am willing to pay.

RCZ 01-27-2009 08:48 PM

Im sure it will be on youtube within a week...actually... I got it already ;) Im downloading as I type...

I'll trade you a cool subname title for the video :)

RCZ 01-27-2009 10:04 PM

Looks like Im gonna have to re-download it since apparently I have to use bitcomet...

Nevermind I got it to work, want it AK?

RCZ 01-27-2009 10:20 PM

Watched it, OK without spoiling it. The results settle the discussion between the Z and the 135i and the Cayman S.

I wouldn't put too much weight on best motoring vids, but they are entertaining.

I'll put the 911 up front followed by a close battle between the cayman S and 370Z. The 135i will follow and the S2K lagging behind.

In the meantime, here's an older best motoring vid with a S2K, Nismo Z, cayman S and Z4M (not sure if that's a cayman S or just the regular model).

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-m3w1vV9jI0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-m3w1vV9jI0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And another one with a 135i, S2K CR, Nismo and M3

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0i8eKvoTQHY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0i8eKvoTQHY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Thanks....THANKS A LOT!

RCZ 01-28-2009 11:30 AM

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK I'll spoil it for you.

The race ends with the Cayman S, then Z then Carrera, then the 135i then the S2k.
The only two laps in the 1:06's were the Z and the Carrera. Everything else was slow compared to the two.

The Z made up like a 5 second deficit on the Cayman S (which started first) in like 2 laps. Meaning it is much faster than the Cayman S. The Carrera is about .4 seconds a lap faster than the Z. THe 135i wasn't even close to the pace, sloppy to say the least. The 135i was like 2 seconds off the pace of the Z.

In other words the real result of the test was Carrera - Z - Cayman S - S2k - 135i.

The carrera was MUCH faster in the straights. In the twisties, the Z matched it move by move.

I can't give you the Torrent because its from an invite only site which is very strict...

kills self......um...again

Ryan@IP 01-28-2009 11:41 AM

About what I expected. The "races" are mainly just to make it easy to compare them side by side. The important numbers are the lap times. But I would still prefer to see just one driver have an open track and get their fastest lap. Then compare that driver's fastest lap in all the different cars.

RCZ 01-28-2009 11:53 AM

Yeah Ryan, honestly Best Motoring races are bs. One more lap and everything would have changed. The Carrera would've taken the lead in one or two more laps and then the field would've been spread badly with the Carrera out ahead then the Z filling the gap then the Cayman...

Endgame 01-28-2009 12:00 PM

THX RCZ!!!!!!!!!!!! I can finish my work day in peace now.. Unless my boss fires me...

MaximumPwr 01-28-2009 12:46 PM

Excellent results. I am impressed with the Z and dissappointed with the 135i. I was looking at the 135i before I bought the Z. The video reviews I have seen on the 135i all say it is a fast torque monster of a turbo car. I was just thinking it would do better, at least in the straights to keep up.

I don't know why you would be disappointed in the 135i just because it wasn't as fast as a group of purpose built two-seat sports cars and a 997 Porsche. The fact that it is even considered competition for two $60k+ Porsches is basically proof that it is a pretty good car.

I have wedged my 6'1" self in the back of the 135i and I can assure you that it was not a wonderful ride, but probably much more comfortable than the back seat of a 997 (or the trunk of a 370z!).

Supergoji 01-29-2009 10:20 AM

if you guys watch what positions they are in when they start you'll see which car is fastest and slowest on the track. the car with the slowest laptimes are up front and get progessively faster as you move back.

Good point on the Porsche's. I wasn't looking at it like that. I do like the 135i and am glad it's in the same competition class as the Z and Porsche, ect. I wish those turbos were on my Z. lol

MC 01-30-2009 01:57 AM

speaking of this video anyone know the specVs lap time compared to the regular GTR?

You make a very good point here... But the 135 is supposed to be BMWs affordable sports coupe.. To compete with nissan and infiniti.. Yes, they did put it in a group of wonderful cars and to even compete with a porsche is a great thing.. but they have also put a lotus in with a gtr a porsche and group of lambos... So they arent really fair all the time.. Before i saw this i always thought the 135 to be a great performer, better than as shown here... Dont get me wrong its a great car.. but you sacrifice looks and space for the car and IMO it doesnt perform much better than the 3 series..

Black kNight 01-30-2009 06:40 AM

can someone upload the video for us

I would have if it wasn't a weird .mp4 format...soon as I get my hands on a normal one I'll put it up.
