370Z Newb Pwnag

When you first got your 370 did you have a Newb moment?

I'll go first...After a couple days of driving the car around, I had to fill it up with gas, of course. Being a 350Z owner previously, naturally, I looked for the button to open the gas lid by the VDC button. I searched up and down the car for it. I looked under the seat, next to the seat, even in the cubby holes in case it was purposely hidden for some reason. After a few minutes of searching the car, I walked out to the gas lid to inspect it, in case it could be opened manually by a finger. Needless to say, there was no finger hook or anything. So I hopped back in the car and began to scan the manual. I'm a man, I rarely look through manuals, but on this day I was defeated. I scanned through the pages hoping to quickly find it, then I realized "ha! I'll just use my iPhone and do a Google search". I scanned through the first couple of Google hits, to no avail. Then I scanned through the manual some more...then I got up out of the car and looked at the lid again...and for reasons I couldn't explain I had the sudden urge to push down on it, and Viola! it opened!

Whoops, sorry of the double post, I misspelled pwnage :icon17: , please delete.

^^ This thread just saved me from having that moment! :happydance: :bowrofl:

G Fo12ce 03-12-2010 03:12 PM

LOL luckily I had a G35C before wich worked the same as the 370. I could see how it could happen if you always had a release lever.

Hugoneus 03-12-2010 03:12 PM

Oh boy, I have many!!

I learned to drive manual a week before I bought my 370z, so I have had moments where I come to a stop at a red light and forget to push the clutch! The car doesn't like that!

neither do the people behind you LOL

i thought the "Fobgina" on the left of the steering column for when your remote battery dies was for quarters/change.

HAHA..the same thing happened to me (being a previous 350z owner also) I started looking around the dash couldn't find anything..a few minutes later after looking like a dork...the gas attendant said "Are your doors locked? Try unlocking them." And than there was light LOL..he pushed on the lid and it opened.

shabarivas 03-12-2010 03:38 PM

Ha ha I made the same mistake the first time i had to gas my G35C LOL nice one

HAHAH! Funny stuff.

Jason 03-12-2010 03:45 PM

Lol, great story. I was picturing your puzzled look as you tried to figure it out. I'd never owned a Nissan so I looked through the manual the day I got it. Actually, I like to read manuals when I'm bored (aka on the toilet or whatver).

frost 03-12-2010 03:48 PM

My dealer took about an hour to explain everything to me, so I don't have much. The only thing I can think of is that in my 350, one of the 3 gauges in the center was changeable, and I always had it on digital speedo. I spent a while with the 370z trying to figure out how to change the "clock" gauge to speedo :shakes head:

boggs 03-12-2010 04:23 PM

I had the exact same problem when I went to fill up for gas the first time. Felt like a complete idiot because I didn't even know how to fill my own car up. Everyone is standing there filling their cars up looking at how sweet mine is and I'm busy looking like a complete moron because I can't fill it up haha. Every other car I have ever owned had some sort of release thing inside. I spent close to 15mins trying to figure it out including reading through the owners manual.

elmz 03-12-2010 04:29 PM

Wow, I'm actually surprised I'm not alone with my story. Now I don't feel like such an idiot.

Ya I forgot to mention that too ;)

On the same note did you try to hang the gas cap by the threads on the door like most cars? Took me a sec to realize what the little hook and loop were for.

kenchan 03-12-2010 04:50 PM

newb moment...hummm... yah, i didnt know there was a glove box behind the passenger seat for the owner's manual. :D

LOL. So did you perchance shove any change into the fobgina? I once saw a pretty bizarre video involving change being shot out of another type of gina. But that's a different topic for a different day.

I too got stumped by the fuel door, btw. And I also came from a 350Z. I kept reading the manual and in the section re. the fuel door, it just describes how to unlock your doors. I was like 'what does that have to do with anything???' Then it occurred to me to try pressing it.

LaSeeno 03-12-2010 05:05 PM

1. Windows automatically rolling down = read manual
2. Airbag light after DVD player install = read these forums

Attaboy 03-12-2010 05:13 PM

newb moment - had been away from driving a manual for about 5 years. the first time i went to fill the car up with gas, i forgot to leave the car in gear or at least pull the parking break. i got out of the car and went around to the pump to get it started and noticed the car slowly rolling back out of the corner of my eye!! good thing i had the windows down - i jumped in through the passenger window far enough to yank the parking break up and stop the car, looking like a complete dumb ***.

as far as i could tell, only the attendant inside the store saw me. :nutswinger:

i guess i dont feel so bad now, though. at least i knew how to open the fuel door

fullmonty 03-12-2010 05:32 PM

I couldn't figure out how to use the windsheild wipers. Felt like a pretty big idiot

I saw a cool ice cube trick once. She was relatively accurate too, amazing.

Newb moment... looking for the damn trunk release button...

PapoZalsa 03-12-2010 07:43 PM

I almost had to pull out the owners manual, then the light click. The embarrassing thing was that I had a line of cars waiting to pump gas behind me.

NCSUPACK09 03-12-2010 08:00 PM

I just bought the car, the guy pulled it around and parked it, we went over the checklist, he gave me the keys and said enjoy it. He walks away and I go to put it into reverse and ....

All I'm getting is 6th. Now I tried everything to get it into reverse, tried to find a collar to lift, push it through a gate w/ resistance (i.e. BMW), everything.

I run in to the dealership to find the guy and am like, uh, how do you put the car in reverse? haha. :owned:

That's when I found out that you had to push the stick down and then over to get it in reverse. And yes, I did test drive the car before I bought it, but I never had to back it out.

LOL... I was fumbling for reverse today too. Some chick almost reversed into me while she was trying to leave the service area while I was parked behind her. I was like... "NOOOOOoOOOO, not my car!!!" The scene unfolded like a bad action movie slow motion scene. Luckily, I got out of there in time.

I spent hours during my first days of owning my new base Z trying to figure out why my music played only through the front speakers. A thread on this Forum answered the question for me. In retrospect, maybe I wasn't really to be blamed, as I never knew of any other car that had control settings and places for rear speakers with none included and an owner's manual that made no mention of it. As they say, "Go figure!"

haha, I took my car for the first oil change at Nissan and asked the dude to check out my rears speakers too cuz I didn't hear no sound coming out. I was sure I blew them. He came back about 30 minutes later and said " Yea, you don't hear any sound because you have the base model which doesn't come with the rears" DAYM!

Don't worry you're not missing the world!

zentropy 03-13-2010 12:27 AM

It took me about 2 months two realize there was an actual key INSIDE the fob!

kevin.z 03-13-2010 02:35 AM

newb moment- i couldn't find my main keyfob for my z so i plug the spare key in the fobgina. the car wouldn't stuck and the spare key got stuck and wouldnt come out! it took me a whole 2 hrs just to get it out. i didn kno u cant start the car with just a spare key.

OldGuy 03-13-2010 07:17 AM

I'm here laughing my tail off. This is the funniest thread I've ever read on this forum. It makes me feel a lot better, as I had thought maybe because I'm "mechanically challenged," I was the only one who had experienced laughable Z moments like these!

Vegitto-kun 03-13-2010 11:42 AM

I never had a noob problem with this car.

I knew where everything was perfectly

i've now had a few... of course, the gas latch. I searched for about 2mins, then opened the quick ref. guide to pg 15 and laughed. And I have been wondering why the door has a keyhole. I had no idea the fob had a key!

I also spent many yrs driving ATs. I've stalled her a few times, but I i'm getting the hang of it. Only hills give me trouble, at this point. Slowly learning the clutch-break method.

4r3s 03-13-2010 05:43 PM

I thought my windshield sprayers were broken bc when I pushed up on the lever to use the clearly labeled "mist" setting just the blades wiped no liquid came out...
