370Z for daily commute, good idea?
how many of you here use your Zs for daily commute? any comments?
|
I drive mine every day and beyond having to deal with the wear and tear attributed to that level of use it's great.

Only if you like to be happy when you drive:tup:
~1 year old, +20k miles due to somewhat daily commute and really like this car. |
Every damn day buddy, every damn DAY! just under 11k, had it since last july.
|
Drive it daily.
Drove it through winter, too. Didn't mind at all. |
its a daily driver for me...seems to be working out pretty well so far :)
|
drive mine everyday, sun, rain, snow, summer, winter, anytime

I daily drive mine. To school. To home. To random road trips. The Z goes with me EVERYWHERE!
I don't drive too much though. I have a tad over 8k on the odometer and I've had it since May 2, 2009. :D |
^ Oh My God, What the fu@k barbeque?
|
weekend car for me.
had it since July 2009 and got 3,600kms on the clock! |
It's a (mostly) daily driver for me. I didn't intend on it when I got her, thought I'd spend more time in the other car to preserve mileage in the Z...but somehow I have to fight to get myself back in that other car now.
|
11k in 7 months. I drive mine everyday and enjoy it, especially the freeway ramps.
|
Daily driver for me,
on certain stretches of road the tyre road can be overwhelming... That aside, it's awesome... |
if I could afford another car, and I could stand to drive that instead of my Z, it would def be a weekend car. But I love driving it too much and can't afford another car (yet). And besides if I did get a second car than that would be my weekend car, lol.
I agree with vipor - just understand & accept ahead of time the consequences of driving it daily and you'll be fine. I mean, isn't Simon Cowell's daily driver a frakking Veyron? |
as a daily drive in my view - its crap.
you got to be careful backing out due to the blind spots, the front is too tall and you could hit things, and you could grind the rims. best left to the weekend for a nice long cruise... |

I can see just fine out the back. I have no problems with the front and you could grind pretty much every rim on any car |

PEBSWAS (problem exists between steering wheel and seat) My Z is my DD and I love it. My only negative is I can't use it for family trips. If there was enough room to shove 3 or 4 suitcases and 2 dogs in the back, I would use this car for *everything*. :happydance: |
thanks for the replies. how's the real life gas mileage around town? according to fueleconomy.gov it's better than the EVO X and even slightly better than my wife's new TL 3.5

I used to have an 07 TL as my dd and my gsxr 600 as my weekend toy. I've since traded the TL in for the Z, and now have 2 somewhat impractical dd's. Being that the Z is the more practical of the two, it's the one I use for day to day use. It's definitely not as comfy/equipped as the TL was, but it sure is a lot more fun to drive. Only thing that worries me is the increased wear and tear that a dd usually accumulates.

Just looked it up, 18.49mpg. Max 22.04, min 9.85 (track weekend) |
I didn't spend the money for this car to drive a pickup or some sedan every day, what fun is that? these cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, then one day, before the miles pile up too high, you can retire and restore and enjoy for as long as you want. But yeah, I am driving my Z every day.
|
Well of course you are. You've got a TT in the garage  rofl

And the proof, speed average went down because i was driving through town towards the end, but you get the picture.

Highway cruising @ 80-90. Included some around-town driving too. |

the answer depends on how OCD you are about cars in general :)
by strict definition, a daily driver car is a car that you don't care much about, appearance wise (ie, dings, dents, scratches would not bother you) but it seems that the majority of forum members do care. so, sure you can drive the 370z every day but as a daily driver, there are better cars for that purpose. |

The MPG is what I expected, considering my average mph is 35. My gauge is showing an average of 17.9 mpg currently, but I hardly ever get to cruise above 60mph for very long.
You would think with all the stop and go, traffic lights, etc., I'd be tired of a 6 speed by now....nope! |
The Z is my every day car. Those who say that every day cars are cars that you don't care about must not be very good drivers.
Why would I pay 40k for a car and then leave it in the garage for the whole week?! It is not going to appreciate, it will only depreciate in value. I drive it to work every morning and I cant wait to get in the car! It brings a smile to my face when I get to work and I am giddy with excitement to drive it after work. |

my 2010 z is in the garage right now and i drove a 2001 mercedes to work. like i wrote in another thread, i don't drive the z on rainy days. |

That's fine but mine is getting driven 110+ miles a day to work and on the weekend it's my bikes. They are just toys to be played with not worshiped. I do that in a little white building down the street.

that would definitely ruin my day. *my windows did roll down by themselves one time while the car was in the garage. |
my z melts in the rain so i only take her out on dry days.
