Does every little scratch bother you?

Not sure if it's just me, but does every little imperfection on the car bother you, no matter how small? For instance, a rock or something must have kicked up and it put a scratch on the plastic grill part of the front bumper. Now mind you, it's impossible to see the scratch unless you are bent over looking at it from a few inches away. Despite this it hasn't stopped bothering me, to the point where I've actually contemplated replacing the bumper, lol. Maybe it's just a testament to how nice the car is that I want to keep it perfect, but I'm curious as to whether anyone else is like this with their 370.

USMCASA 02-24-2010 04:33 PM

not so much scratches as i haven't got any yet but rock chips. oh and i would freak the hell out if i got a door ding.

Xan 02-24-2010 04:36 PM

As soon as I get the car I'm planning on wrapping the entire car, so what to you think? :)

Vegasboricua 02-24-2010 05:13 PM

I always have some touch up paint on hand...if anything ill touch it up during my weekly detailing sessions. But if its a dent.....ill freak out.

NewlyIMPORTed 02-24-2010 05:36 PM

short answer.. YES! thats why i have silver. doesn't show imperfection that easy

SophiaZ 02-24-2010 05:53 PM

YES..everything that happens to the Z bothers me so badly! I have a 4 inch deep scratch on the hood, dent /missing paint under drivers door handle, 6 inch deep scratch on right fender. Oh..yea and a tiny hairline on the hatch. Thats just to name a few :( I blame it on the black paint since it shows everything; which is why I'm getting the car painted next month. I do know that all cars will have some kind of blemish but mine is crazy... no more parking next to anyone and no more car washes... needs to be done at home.

NiņaBonitaZ 02-24-2010 05:56 PM

I got a door ding once, I almost got diarrhea when I discovered it. My paintless dent repair policy took care of it :)

Scratches, I usually buff out with polish.

Red370 02-24-2010 05:56 PM

The first one, i cried a little. Now its just like, oh well..

TX_370 02-24-2010 05:57 PM

Yes. They still bother me.

SPOHN 02-24-2010 06:00 PM

Each rock chip is like a stab to the heart.

gumpy 02-24-2010 06:10 PM

each chip hurts me...

Hugoneus 02-24-2010 06:22 PM

Yes... Which is why I am getting the clear bra. Hopefully it will help.

KillerBee370 02-24-2010 06:26 PM

Nope

kenchan 02-24-2010 06:48 PM

dings and dents bother me, but scratches, not so much.

LOL... if you really cared that much... and didnt want scratches / blemishes - you should NEVER go to a car wash... handwash it and detail her once or twice a year...

I have one TINY chip in the seam of the door / body (dont know how the fvck it got there lol)... and it pisses the crap out of me lol

Unless you clear bra the whole car, nope.

wheee! 02-24-2010 07:03 PM

I hate the ones you get on the day of delivery.....

Z-WHIZ 02-24-2010 08:07 PM

I'm with you on this blink, but I wouldn't worry about a little scratch in the plastic. Let alone contemplate replacing the bumper because of it, lol.

Red370 02-24-2010 08:15 PM

I got a small nick in my windshield on my way back from Albuquerque last weekend, its fu^king driving me nuts.

370Zsteve 02-24-2010 08:19 PM

No. The two chips from fking rocks on my hood do not bother me at all. Am i making myself perfectly clear? Everything is fine! Just fine.

check out my Mike's Journal thread, but the short story is oil cooler line came off right before the braking zone at turn 1, VIR and soaked the front left brake with oil, causing a spin.

(waves at the Georgia guy)

Had a silver RSX and that color didn't stop the rock chips from showing up much at all. It DID stop a lot of the "swirlies" showing up, though .

I have been complaing about this paint since day one.Unfortunetly I was excited when seeing the car for the first time and didn't notice the poor paint.
I also have the magnetic black and it is piss poor paint.
I'am sorry to hear you have to spend to have a brand new car repainted but it feels good to hear someone else recognizes the fact the paint sucks. Some on here are very protective of negative comments about the car.
It is the real deal though that Nissan dropped the ball on the paint job of this car!
Good luck with your new paint job!

Yes, unfortunately, I for one am almost too scared to drive my new Z also. Mine is still showroom perfect with only a few hundred miles on it and in my garage and I will hold my breath each time I take it out (after the weather improves). I got full clear bra and a body shop on call and we'll hope for the best. I just don't want to wind up like my neighbor who bought a special edition Corvette 5 or 6 years ago and simply pulls it out onto his driveway and sits in a lawn chair all day looking at it! He has put no more than a thousand miles or so on that car over at least 5 years! What a shame as someday his time will come and some less caring buying will have all the fun.

Sounds like we're similar. Don't want to let it sit and be perfect but don't want to put it in "harm's way". I find I follow much further behind cars now than I did in my RSX. Still comptemplating clear bra but worried I'm just swapping chipped paint for something that will (after a few years) become two different shades of red (at the cost of $700 !). I've already toothpicked up my single paint chip on the front).

BTW, someone told me I wasn't the oldest guy on here. Said there was some guy here in his 60s. Considering your nick, that wouldn't be you would it?

Yep, that's me. Bought the Z for 62nd birthday late last fall. It's actually a good time in life for such things, as the kids are grown and gone and neither time nor money are limitations on my fun. I'm a "semi-retired" lawyer and plan to spend even more time in the years ahead enjoying my Miata (50th birthday gift), my Z and whatever the future might hold. Bet you're still a kid?

Yeah, is anyone with lawyer skills EVER retired? :ughdance:

As to being a kid, remember I said I thought I was the oldest on here. So, that equates to 59 in April. This car is my early retirement gift. Wife said I could go ahead and get me one, it would be my retirement gift, it's just that I would have to work one extra year to pay it off at $2,500 per month (but I get the money now). So, somewhat in the same boat. ;)

mick 02-25-2010 02:43 PM

my car was perfect until today. a peeble came out of nowhere and hit my windshield. luckily it only left a tiny mark.

since i drove far away from the cars in front and it still happened, i am not too sad about it. there was nothing i could have done to prevent it, except to drive my other car.

gumpy 02-25-2010 03:00 PM

It's just part of driving cars isn't it?

what i don't get it is how people with ferraris and astons work up the balls to take their car on to the public roads...

i think it doesn't bother them because they are so rich. when their cars are worn out, they can easily get another one :)

cptspeed 02-25-2010 04:38 PM

I have enough nicks to count on two hands. My windshield had a ding until sun. New windshield being installed tomorrow because the ding hatched into a 8 inch crack.

I'm with ya and it does not bother me that much, its going to happen no matter how much you try to protect/baby it..... I am use to Nissan paint of recent after owning 2 Z's and 2 Maximas, the paint will chip not only on the front but also on the sides near door edges etc for no reason....
