Default OBD II real-time monitor causing problems?

I've had my Storm White 370Z GT for 2 weeks now and after 5 1/2 years of a 350Z GT with a digital speedo I decided to get a Vi Monitor device that plugs into the OBD II socket. I put it in a few days ago and everything going fine, giving correct MPH, RPM, throttle usage etc., then yesterday a warning light appeared on the instrument panel showing a car bonnet (hood) up, and wouldn't go out.
Anyway I went to the Nissan garage this morning and the technician had a look and said there were quite a few warnings in the diagnostics which they cleared and said that it was common when you use third-party monitoring devices that plug into the OBD II socket and I shouldn't use it.
Apparently they've seen it on GTR's and they can even cause issues with external lights.
Anyone else use (used) a similar monitoring device and had the same problem?

Cheers, Paul.

I run a Scangauge for monitoring and have never had an issue on any of the different cars I've run it on (5 so far)

Hi guys, no pictures, but the warning light was something to do with the 'pop-up bonnet' feature which (apparently means) the bonnet raises itself automatically in a collision.

I also had the ESP Off warning come on but I hadn't touched the ESP button.

If only Nissan had added a digital speedo to the trip computer screen! I can't see any need for any of the standard screens for daily use.

Wonder if it is either just the VI Monitor or a problem with the 370Z?

I've emailed the company asking them so will see if it could be a problem with the device or perhaps the car.

Cheers.

I noticed there were some firmware upgrades for bugs listed on the site. Have you don them?

Probably not much help from this side of the pond as that unit is not (readily) available here...

All updates done before I installed in the car (I work in IT so I know that this is the first thing the manufacturer asks!).

I really need a digital speedo but if the warning lights come on again and if I've been using the device the Nissan garage says they will charge me next time to reset the faults!
