Finally Caught the Rim Stealers in NY

http://www.news12.com/archive/articl...news_type=news

I know a few of us on here have been victims of these dueches in this past year... I personally know of 2 370z's and a GTR that were victims of these people.. My buddy with the GTR caught them in the act outside his house for the second time, with all the lug nuts off the car about to jack the car up with a pickup truck waiting on the side of his house... He came outside and they took off. He found his car with all the lug nuts off already. The first time they were successful and it was only shortly after they purchased the car... This was within a mile of my house as well. They got another 370z that i know of not too long ago too, also in my area.

Now this may not be the only people stealing rims but they said they robbed over 300 sets of rims. They were selling them all on eBay and cops were on to them before they busted them but atleast i can sleep a little easier now that i know they are caught.

I know a member on here from merrick got his jacked and they came back again. That was the same story with the GTR as the time he caught them was actually the second time they were there. The first time the actually did get the rims.. I want to say I kind of suspect that they were tipped off by someone or some people because its hard to believe they knew where all these cars were and that the OEM nissan wheels fetch good money. Its kind of creepy to even phathom that thought, but imagine some one at a dealership was tipping them off ? Unlikely, but possible.

merrick and port jeff are 40 minutes away from each other, but I do not doubt for a second its not the same group of guys...

Its good to know that atleast this group of scumbags is now behind bars though...

The link requires a subscription to view it, but I think this is great - bunch of punks. Hopefully they go to jail.

One of them tried to sell the wheels on here but everyone was on to him because a local to us got his wheels jacked.

IDZRVIT 02-20-2010 10:38 AM

That's great news. What a bunch of dumbasses. I guess their is truth in that saying, "Returning to the scene of the crime". Once wasn't good enough!:shakes head:

:) true, the car IS an extension of the home here in TX, hell, a man shot a guy in his back while on his property and got away with it, its the wild west out here :rofl2:

theDreamer 02-20-2010 11:02 AM

Also, they most likely will plea guilty for a lesser sentence usually.
Glad they got caught though.

SmoothZ 02-20-2010 11:09 AM

Link doesn't work for me either.

Were the perps Russians or Eastern European? lol

MightyBobo 02-20-2010 11:09 AM

:ugh2: I think that's the way it should be...... asshole comes on your property to steal or do harm, shoot them. Unfortunately other more "liberal" states will actually make life miserable for the property owner in that situation.

clint eastwood says: "Nothing wrong with shooting as long as the right people get shot." :)

SmoothZ 02-20-2010 11:18 AM

:stirthepot: just make sure the douchebags look like they were trying to assault you with a tool or something, then the shooting is justifiable. :happydance:

G35guy84 02-20-2010 03:24 PM

I was one of the guys who got his wheels stolen in huntington, long island and I wasn't going to say anything until I knew those f-ing thieves were caught, but a cop came to my house a couple weeks ago looking for more info to make an arrest. He actually told me these guys were going to go to jail for a long time. I hope any other car thieves see this as a lesson and learn to start making money the right way like the rest of us. If any other thief comes to steal my wheels and he won't live to see another day. Justice has been served today gentlemen!

GingaBreadMan 02-20-2010 03:38 PM

Doesn't the 370z come with wheel locks? Mine has them. Are these locks insufficient?

The Nissan lock keys are generic and easy to come by, better than nothing but not 100% protection.

They will get busted not only for steeling the rims but the many thousands spent on repairs after they drop the car to the ground after snatching your wheels.

I've experienced auto theft and vandalism in the past, and as angry as I've been about it, I've never been angry enough to actually take someone's life over it.

As far as the 'liberal' states you reference, they only make it miserable for you if you kill someone for attempting to steal your stuff.

Punishment does not fit the crime, imo. But that's the South for you.

I lost the key to my wheel locks about two months ago. All I did was I went to my neighbor and he has a commercially available kit (bell-shaped v
brass sockets) that you just pound over the locks and then just use your wrench.

A soft metal regular socket barely larger than the lock would work the same way.

I figure that, with locks, it slows down the thieves by no more than 30 seconds.

yea I learned wheel locks were useless when i dropped my car off for rear tires ( my old car ) got home and realized I had the lock in my room.. called the place and they told me, oh thats no problem, guys forget them all the time. And they did not damage my wheel lock either

Sooo I leave my annoying dog out in the living room who barks at everyone and everything to be my security.

Togo 02-21-2010 01:04 AM

I'm glad these fuckers got caught!

Unfortunately, gun laws in New York are not as relaxed in Texas. New York and California have some tough gun control laws. That used to be my mentality too, but if they don't have a gun pointed at you, you're not allowed to shoot. ::siggh:: :shakes head:

Wheel locks only deter amateurs.

Yes, the canine security system is the way to go. I have two of them :icon17:
