FilterMAG...is it worth it??
I've been seeing a lot of stuff on the FilterMAG and wanted to get some people's options on if it is really worth it?...I know it's only like $50.00 but does it really make a difference to your car in the long run?
|
Been driving for over 35 years and have never used one. I've also never kept a car much past 100K miles and never had an oil related problem. But hey, you'll get others who swear by their use. For $50, if it gives you peace of mind, go for it.
|
Worth it? Who knows. But for $30 bucks, why not?

Filter Mag=good.
Metal particles in your oil=bad. |

I have a filter mag on my Z and 2 Corvettes. Cheap insurance, and better than a magnetic drain plug.

At $25 a pop, who cares

I have a question... In that pic how uch of that metal do you think came from cutting the filter open? Being that it is clamshell cut they sure as hell used a saw or abrrasive cutter. My bet is company rep photo.
Also anything that a filter mag stops would be stopped anyway by the filter thats why its trapped in the can in the first place. You'd be better of getting the flat transmission filter mag and sticking it to the bottom of the oil pan to stop stuff that didn't enter the filter |
I don't see that it wont hurt to stop the metal fragments from circulating on to the oil filter, and keep those same types of fragments stuck to the drain plug by way of a Mag type of oil plug.. I don't mind the added insurance.
|
it's not really added insurance is all. The stuff is suposed to get stuck to the filter you are NOT going to plug a filter in 4,000 miles and if you do your motor is gone anyway. A better use of that 30 dollars would be buying a flat agnet and sticking it to the oil pan not the filter. especially if you could put it where it will catch stuff before being pulled into the pickup. If all you want is to stick magnets anywhere you can then why not have cow magnets epoxied all over the inside of the block?

Aren't our blocks made of aluminum or aluminum alloy? Last time I checked aluminum is not magnetic.
|
But magnets are magnetic. What are you getting at?

The block is aluminum, but what are the internals that are actually grinding together?

Yeah but if y'all used Amsoil you wouldn't even have any metal shavings to worry about. Anyone who uses any other brand of oil is CRAZY!!!
:stirthepot: (I'm kidding -- I hope that's obvious. And no, I don't have anything against Amsoil either.) |

Seriously not trying to be a ****, but I've been looking for a few minutes now and haven't been able to find any info about what some of the components are made of. |
Not being an ***, but my source is my brain.

Interesting how much more iron was in the first example.
|
There we go. Oil analysis a good place to look.
|
So basicly this thing go into your oil pan and traps metal particals, do I have it right?

Do this really works? I was thinking about getting the FilterMAG RA250. Will that fit?

The RA250 will fit?

i dont use one and dont plan to get one either. this goes for fumoto valves as well.
|
I have been using one for three years now .. I cut open one of my used filters with the magnet still on it and the inside looked just like the advertised pic . Pretty cool ..
|
I have one and my engine still running. I also have a magic rock that keeps tigers away. Both are working equally well for me.
