Not Planning to Track - Is Sports Package Worth It?
Okay, if I'm not going to be doing any big track days, do I really need the sports package? Does anyone know how much performance you actually pick up for spirited back road driving?
|
no, it really wouldn't be worth it for you.
|
srm ftw, enough said.
j/k, but yeah the srm is so awesome, the sound, the smooth feel, its just plain awesome! |
Even if you are not going to track the car the price of the Sport Package is worth. You at least will appreciate the brake package.
|
Not really, but it's worth the money.
|
Yeah, if your cruising like a granny, don't get a z.
j/p. Yeah, just get your base + at. |

:iagree: I got a base because I knew the LSD/Brakes/Wheels/Tires would be immediately replaced, kind of a waste if you feel you dont need those things. I can blip a throttle or heel toe, SRM for me was unnecessary. Also didnt hurt that the dealer gave me a hell of a deal on it.
|
Track days aside, there are a few things to think about.
1) Aesthetics of the sport pack. The 19" rims are really nice and look great. 2) SRM. A nice feature, great for smooth downshifts, but you won't miss it if you never experience it. 3) Improved brakes. Probably make no difference for street driving. 4) LSD. If you drive in snow, you'll want this. It's helpful in more places than just the racetrack. 5) Perhaps resale value. People love buying cars that have 'all the options'. SRM is a big ticket item that gets lots of attention. People may look for this in a used 370 down the road. |

You will definately have better pad selection with the sport package. Hey you never know if you will ever track later in the future so id say get it!

I believe it's definitely worth it to get the sport package.
One more difference is that the 19's come wrapped in Potenza's while the base is on Yoko's. As for the LSD, at least it makes drifting easier... |

I don't think that would matter to a guy who is just making some spirited freeway runs every now and then. |

Also I guess we need a better definition on what OP means with spirited back road driving... I guess this isn't what he's talking about? |
:icon17: I'm going to guess not, but I may be wrong

spearfish nailed it - big upgrades to wheels, brakes and rear diff... the SRM is a safety feature in some ways, and you can always turn it OFF when you don't want to use it...

But the size of the tire should make a difference from 225/50WR18 to 245/40WR19 and 245/45WR18 to 275/35WR19 should make a difference... |
Its worth it just for the brakes.
|
It's definitely worth it.
|
If you can afford the extra $2500, get the Sports package. If can't, then dont'.
I asked myself the same question. When i see the two side by side, i had to get the Sports package. |
brakes + better tires and wheels man... not to mention SRM if you are getting a M6... Its worth it ...

I have no real plans to track mine, but I had to get the sport. Even if its just for the wheels its worth it.
|
The Sports package was designed for spirited street driving IMO.
|
IMO - If you are looking to buy a "sports" car, then why wouldn't you get the car with the most "sport options". Depending on how you finance it, the extra $2,500 over the length of the terms wouldn't break most people.
Beware of the 'I'm going to replace all the sports mods anyway perspective." Add ons mean a lot to you and not many other people when you go to trade or sell the car. If you are not tracking the vehicle, you can get the sport options enjoy it and never worry about dumping two or three times as much money into the car then the original sports option costs. |
I didn't get it because I don't like the rear spoiler. I think it ruins the lines of the car. Also, the front spoiler would scrape on everything, seeing as I scrape all the time now with my base. I wouldn't mind the LSD, but the extra cost of replacement tires for the 19" is a negative also. Plus, saving 10% on the price of my car wasn't too shabby. Pays for my gas for 2 years (or the cost of my insurance for 2 years).

i replaced my stock lsd with a carbonetic... so, want it? $200 shipped in US

Stopping in a hurry can't be understated. Nice looking wheels (though common w/ Z's) VLSD avoids the one-wheel-peel ;) |

We were gonna go total base but just couldn't wait a few more days for delivery, hahaha, so we got one w/ the Sports Pkg.!!!!!!!!! I must say though........it looks friggin' awesome w/ the spoilers, those big ole' tires, bad azz rims and yes the extra on the brakes aren't bad either!
|
Personally i'd pass on it,
18's still look great (it's all we get in Australia until now), the tyres are cheaper to replace and you get better ride compliance on the slightly thicker rubber. lsd - unless you are planning it consistently spear it out of corners (which you shouldn't do on public roads) lsd's not needed. SRM - i've turned mine off cause i prefer to match it myself. Part of the joy of manual cars. I do like the look of the spoiler but, is it an expensive option on its own? |
