The salesman didn't want to play the phone shoppers game. Seems he handled it quite well...Considering the narrative above...:shakes head:

Some do, some don't. My conversation was faster:

Me: Hi, I test drove one of your Zs a couple of months ago and want to buy the Brilliant Silver one you have on your lot. I'll give you $34,900 for it (sport, touring, splash guards, f+r mats, VIN etch).

Sales Manager: I can't sell it to you for that price.

Me: OK, no problem. Take care. <click>

<10 seconds go by, my phone rings>

Sales Manager: <audible sigh=""> <audible sigh> OK, I'll sell it to you.

Me: Great! I'll be down in one hour with a check. <click>

:driving:</click></audible></click>

Ask 370Zsteve to broker you a deal.

Picking up a white 6spd 370z tom. And this was all done over the phone at another dealer. I don't get why that is so hard for Jim Russo

I think this salesman is making a mistake. Everyone, including this 62 year old, buys things on line these days and many close to final or final prices are posted. I bought my Z on-line with an honest offer from the dealership that was an excellent no boloney price ($29,000) and gave my immediate acceptance with no games on either side. I presented my check the next day and drove home with a smile on my face. I will go back again as he earned my loyalty. It's a hyper-competitive and hyper-sophisticated world out there these days. Times have changed, not sure if for better or for worse, but those who don't change with them will soon become extinct---like it or not.

Well.... I agree. To a point. If you're that salesman and your income relied upon "maximizing" a final price, don't you think you'd try and get a higher price?

Don't get me wrong... bartering (or dickering) about price should be encouraged. But to cut-off a guy without "some" second or even third chances, would be like ... (?)

I guess it's a two-way street.... and one shouldn't be too quick to throw off a salesman. Even if that person is obviously going too high. Give them another chance or two.... they'll probably move.

nextbesthing 01-26-2010 07:37 PM

bottom line is he lost a sale
