Why is the 50th anniversary edition never discussed?
I see so many people talking about the up coming Z and I know a lot of us loved the 40th..just curious. I myself have the 50th (silver/black) and I love her. Just curious as to why that anniversary is hardly mentioned anywhere. Thoughts?

Should we discuss the vinyl graphics on the side that make it unique?

The 40th had way more cosmetic stuff. Darker wheels, different paint, badging, a commemorative cover, different calipers I believe, red stitching everywhere, and red interior.
At the end of the day. None of it matters. They all perform the same. |
Soohiaz, in your opinion, why do you think 40th get so much more love than the 50th?
|
Honestly, I think the 2019 yellow and black Heritage Edition was a better "special edition" than the 50th and should have been the 50th.
|
Another reason is there were so few 50th anniversary editions produced (only 50 total). There were thousands of 40th anniversary editions produced and available on many dealership lots. So a lot more people actually got into a 40th compared to the 50th.

'that's it ????' seems a bit strange now since we've all seen the new car, but at the time there was quite a bit of frustration. |

Very few 50th anniversary models were ever produced. The entire model lineup was basically already on its way out and had to compete with development of the new Z that is now supposed to release this year. The 370Z was already long in the tooth with public appeal dwindling. Nissan didn't really do anything to change that public perception and thus you have the lackluster public interest. Personally, I think the 50th anniversary was a really great opportunity that was missed due to poor timing with the leadership and financial status of Nissan. It's essentially a revised 40th edition scheme. It should have been something special to reinvigorate interest. In hindsight it might have been cool to release the new Z as a boosted 50th edition with the VR30. Then phase out the 370Z and announce a new model lineup going forward with NA and boosted model options. |

Yup I was wrong. I completely forgot they called it Graphite Gray. In the sun it's purple tho.

I agree, I love the purple hue in the color!

I don't know if this applies to others, and I don't want to get owners of these cars angry - it's all subjective, but for me, I really didn't like the graphics added. Not a big fan of the stripes - yes I know there's a heritage there, but to me when it's added on like that it detracts from this beautiful car.... the beautiful shape. Makes it more Herbie the Love Bug as opposed to the gorgeous aggressive, flared and sleek machine it is.
When I was looking at new ones, my first thought was: how hard is it to take the graphics off..... but the interior "enhancements" didn't look great to me either.... splashes of color, but not enough, and in weird places - I think the red looks OK though....the yellow in the heritage...ugh...for the center console padding? What the??? But again...it's all subjective, so I know for some people it's probably the best thing ever..... I just wanted one in pearl white or the dark blue.... |

I would first order the stripes from Nissan and have them safely in hand before even attempting to remove the original ones. I don't believe those stripes would be in stock for very long after the car production has ended as they are purely cosmetic, and I assume they would be at least a couple hundred dollars each? Those stripes are only on the door right? Your safest option honestly could be to try to see if there is a vinyl wrap that exactly or closely matches the door panel paint colour, and just wrap the doors, preserving the originality underneath? Or wrap the whole car and enjoy having a complete different colour for several years? If you are planning on keeping this car long term and hoping it appreciates as like an investment, 20-30 years down the road, factory originality is make or break. I have been to a car auction for classics and the price is PURELY based off of factory originality. |
It's like others have said - by the time the 50th was released - it was already long in the tooth as far as a car model - heck we had the 40th AND the 50th anniversary being the model with only cosmetic updates. The 40th I always thought that color was incredible - the purplish hue that it added along with the red seats/accents - just beautiful. Like someone has already said - it would be awesome to take the 50th anniversary versions and add the updated motor with this body style - I think that would have restarted heavy interest in the Z again - and in particular the 50th anniversary version.

Besides the 370z being in it's 137th year if production, the car is absolutely hideous! !

Because there was literally nothing to like about the 50th. I'm a lifelong Z owner starting from 1972 240Z, and it was a complete slap in the face to the heritage. The fact that they even called it the Heritage edition was a further insult.
If you feel differently and love yours that's fine. I respect all Z owners (at least that take care of them and don't trash them with mods); but this is just my opinion and apparently, a few others based on sales and the lack of interest you mentioned. And by the way, I did own a 40th AE that at least was a much better tribute based upon the continued interest they draw. |
Don’t mean to add to this thread but I got curious.
I looked up 50th edition interior pictures. I do really like a couple of things done to the interior. The leather seats look good, that red piping and dark red inserts. Door cards look awesome. Would love to get these pieces fitted to mine. |
Those two slashes on the side remind of the dodge logo lol

If my wife gave me a then newest iPhone 3 in 2009 for our anniversary, I would have celebrated and mentioned it in front of my friends and family. Fast forward to 2019, if my wife gave me another iPhone 3 for our anniversary but this time with a cell phone case with 2 red stripes on it, I would think it is a bad joke.

When I saw the 50th it was very disappointing to even consider that as a "anniversary edition"
In 2010 the 40th was actually unique for that point in time if you bought it new..... -the paint colour amazing and is much different in person and in different light the hue changes dramatically (IMO only better nissan colours are MPII and MPIII) -the red interior at the time was not heard of as a stock option, now BMW and many others have that as stock choices. -here in Canada the 40th came fully load - sport and touring packages for me it was get a 40th or wait a year for the nismo to come to canada...... I knew I was gonna mod it so I didn't wait. Now I basically have a Nismo-40th |
Honestly the 50th was a lazy attempt at an anniversary edition.
|
If the 50th was supposed to be something special, Nissan completely failed!
