my cars acting weird

so today im driving and out of no where the car just felt like i hit the brakes hard but i didnt. This was about an hour ago and I drove for 3-4 miles and it keeps on doing it. its usually in 1st or 2nd gear when it happens. its not the transmission or the clutch i think it might have something to do with the fuel pump am i wrong? By the way the check engine light came up right before it happened for the first time. Im off work tomorrow so ill be able to take it to the dealership but if its the fuel pump it should be covered under warranty right? and how long would the whole thing take because i have work on sunday and i really dont wanna take a rental. any idea what it can be?

Trips 01-23-2010 04:19 AM

will they give me a rental if they cant finish on time?

Trips 01-23-2010 04:24 AM

that depends on the dealer, explain your situation, that it's your only transportation, and they may provide you with a bucket to get around in, and if not the rentals are pretty cheap due to the type of cars they give out...

Trips 01-23-2010 04:33 AM

If it's a lease more than likely...

armensti 01-23-2010 04:35 AM

paying 591 a month so i should be getting something in return lol.... i hope its nothing serious tho

Trips 01-23-2010 04:38 AM

Let us know what happens.....

armensti 01-23-2010 04:40 AM

ok definitely but i cant sleep because of that freakin problem. i wish i knew what it is

BLUESLATE 01-23-2010 04:46 AM

Why would it matter if it's lease or not? Does your contract say that you get a lease for services?

Trips 01-23-2010 04:46 AM

It's nothing. You can't do anything about it, if was an older car yes but a new car under warranty... Don't sweat the small stuff.........get some sleep.

Your right! Living in a perfect world, but we don't. The dealer will find the fault and diagnose what happen and hopefully fix it.

Did not mean to offense you in anyway. I was just curious because I thought dealerships were giving out loaners outta their own pocket (not exactly, since they're getting paid for the services). Thus, if your repair job doesn't make them enough money, such as a simple oil change, I doubt they'll give out a loaner for free.

However, I do know that the dealerships often have loaners that they actually rent out to the customers who needs a car during the service period at a pretty fair price. The rental policy, I believe, is also very similar to those rental car company's.

I hope Nissan does the right thing for you in this case. :)

Good luck!

Please post results of dealership's diagnostics/resolution! Thanks.

For the life of me...why don't you pick up the phone, call the service department, and find out? WTF is with some folks on this forum lately? :shakes head:

maybe because it happened at 1am in the morning. i think thats the biggest reason why i didnt think of calling the dealership at that time.

you didnt offend me in any way. i was just frustrated and came off sounding like i was. i think your right about them making enough money. If its a major problem then they do give a rental. im about to call them and go over and see what happens.

armensti 01-23-2010 03:43 PM

so just got back from the dealer and they checked the car and told me that the timing of the engine is off. i asked them what could have caused the problem and they said that it might have been the oil. i told them that i used redline 5w30 and the mechanic said thats the problem. he said he had another maxima with the same problem and he also had a 370z at 12k miles with the same problem. They used different oil too. I dont know what to do any ideas?

Maybe your oil level could have Been low? Causing the engine light to come on and the ecu sensing it also causing your original problem, have you checked the level? if so, then I don't know? other than dumping the oil, and filling it up with ester oil... that was a strange diagnosis...

Oh, it's the Redline oil that caused it. Hell, I woulda bet money it was the alignment of the Earth relative to Venus.

armensti 01-23-2010 05:04 PM

So should i change the oil or what?

Trips 01-23-2010 05:08 PM

if that's what the dealers pointing fingers at, what you got to loose but to change it, and if it pops up again, the dealer will have to get another tech to look at it and have them reimburse you for changing oil, due to their wrong diagnosis...

armensti 01-23-2010 05:18 PM

Im just gonna change it

m4a1mustang 01-23-2010 07:27 PM

The timing of the engine is off because of the Redline oil? I think someone's yanking your chain!

But since they are pointing fingers at the oil, once he changes to the nissan oil, they can't point fingers at anything else, and they'll have to fix it.

Not unless the residual amount of Redline left in the engine after the change confuses the Nissan oil into thinking it's Redline and thus throwing the timing off forever.

Of course it's not the oil!!! Armensti either misunderstood the mechanic's explanation or the mechanic is a complete idiot.

PapoZalsa 01-23-2010 07:34 PM

:iagree:

one option is to take it to another dealer and don't tell what oil is in it...

When you took your Z to the dealer service department; what was the dianogsis code tripped?

By the way, Redline oil is ester based oil.

the funny thing is that for the past two months i was driving the car like a granny. I think thats the problem

37Z 01-24-2010 08:31 AM

weird problem

Can you drive faster than 30 mph? If not, your Z gone into limp mode. If so, it may be a defective crank position sensor. Its an easy repair.

That's the craziest diagnosis in the history of the automobile!

How did the rental question work out since you went there and asked them yesterday?

Since Redline meets the requires for oil outlined in the manual, then I guess it is Nissan's issue, not yours.
