370z launching

Hey, i drive a 2009 370z and i often launch my car at streetlights. I have a few people telling me every time i do it i have an 80% chance at blowing my motor, tranny, and clutch. is this true?? he drives a ss camaro and he never does this.

theDreamer 01-19-2010 03:52 PM

A new Camaro(?), well they have launch issues from day one.
If you know what you are doing you probably have nothing to worry about.

80% chance? LOL...OK.

Also, it depends on what you're doing.

If you're N-dumping, you'll blow something.

Here we go again!

chuckd05 01-19-2010 04:05 PM

no pun intended, but why would you launch your car from street lights frequently ? Where in NY are you located because cops around here do not have the best rep for being easy on aggressive driving.

Its certainly not going to help your clutch life if you are feathering your clutch while launching on a regular basis. The motor wont blow and prob not the tranny. But I would guess your clutch will need replacing way before most others if launching your car at stop lights is your hobby.

chuckd05 01-19-2010 04:07 PM

not to mention is sub 30 degrees outside and your prob spinning and eating up your tires which are not cheap at all. IMO launching at stop lights just to launch at stop lights is not a very smart thing to do on a several different levels. 1. Tickets 2. Tires 3. Clutch

thats my list of things your hoping to pay for if you do that...

Don't forget the idiots that floor it on yellow only to run red lights...

Slickshadow 01-19-2010 04:25 PM

ah im located upstate ny which where i live are open roads and 0 cops so im safe with tickets. but yah thx for all the help guys seems all i gotta worry about is mah clutch lol. ty all =)

Mercennarius 01-19-2010 04:26 PM

You're friends an idiot....his Camaro may blow up but you're Z should be fine :). Is it hard on the tranny/rear end/etc.? Yes. But odds are more like 1:1000 that anything will break....its a 370Z not a WRX.

chuckd05 01-19-2010 04:33 PM

why is there so much hatred towards the camaro ?? the vettes are rock solid are these camaros really having mechanical troubles already ??

Just because it has 400hp doesnt mean us Z guys have to hate on it ! lol

All the early production Camaros were having launching issues and breaking input shafts and parts of the tranny...

There was a production stoppage due to the transmissions blowing...a few months ago.

Other issues as well, but I don't remember the details.

kenchan 01-19-2010 04:54 PM

Slickshadow 01-19-2010 05:08 PM

It's OK. We are HARD on newbs. If you are a novice car guy you're going to get hazed pretty badly. The ones that learn eventually get over it, the ones that don't usually leave.

Newbs... :yum:

Red370 01-19-2010 06:05 PM

on a more serious note, I drag my car every weekend, If you drop launch the car, all you're going to do is spin in the pit, its also one hell of a shock to the tranny. The easiest way to launch the 370 is to hold it around 2500 rpms, let the clutch out halfway until you grip, then floor it. I in no way, condone street racing, save that shyt for the strip.

Strip FTW.

And yes, you do shock the transmission and rear end pretty badly. If you run into any wheel hop you need to be careful because that's cause to snap an axle or otherwise **** **** up. If you're running sticky tires that constant bite-slip-bite-slip-bite is going to leave parts all over the track. :bowrofl:

fairladyZ34 01-19-2010 06:09 PM

tach it all the way up and hold until your oil temp is at optimal 260+ then go!

:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

260*F is the VTEC's optimal temperature for serious.

Slickshadow 01-19-2010 06:12 PM
