Oil filter of Choice
 

I’m sure this subject has come up more than ounce.
I don’t exactly trust the oil filters installed by the ‘quickie lube’ places, so want them to use the filter I purchase. What are your opinions on oil filter brands?
I am getting confusion on whether this is the correct OEM part #15208-65f0E for my 2019 Sport-coupe. ... or what may be the more preferred oil filter. My Lady gets daily use and no track time.

Daily driver? Just use OEM. Don't like that? Just throw a Fram on there. Don't like Fram? Throw a Purolator on there. Don't like that? Throw on a Mobil 1 filter. Don't like that? Throw on a Wix.

I cannot think of one instance that the oil filter caused the engine to be damaged on a DD in normal driving conditions.

If you are able to splurge on your Z, and really want the absolute best, the Nismo 15208-RN011 oil filter is your answer. Of all the filters mentioned here, it is the only one Made in Japan. And being that it's Nismo, you get the added benefit of it being "Genuine Nissan" and not a third-party part.

Being that I have late model 2020 Z like you, that is only what I use, and paired with Redline oil (probably the best oil you can buy for your Z) it makes for a killer combo and peace of mind during hard pulls on a hot summer day.

As per above, any good, name-brand filter will work great for a DD.

A Q&D search of The Intertubes says 15208-65F0E is the proper filter for all 370Zs. Double-check that - I'm just Some Guy On A Forum.

Coffee filter filled with Bahamian sand, held on with an 11/32 inch diameter zip tie.

Use an old tin can for a case if you've concerns about debris.

Do like the old chevys with the canister. They used a roll of toilet paper inside the canister. :rofl2: Haven't seen one of them since I was a kid.

What brand of coffee filter? Also, how many horses does that add? :stirthepot:

I prefer Dunkin' Donuts. It adds two Shetland ponies.

I personally use the Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter. It is tried, tested and true. If you want a better idea on these things go to bobistheoilguy.com. People test oils, filters, ATF etc on that forum and it will give you a general idea of things.

41 for a Nismo filter??? lol that thing better be super effective or something

i just use a mix between Wix, Pura, and K&N. whatever i feel like at the moment.

Purolator PL14610 (preferred) or Fram XG7317 which are both larger than stock but fit even with a thermostatic plate for oil cooler. I change annually or at 5k miles which ever comes first using Mobil 1 and an ester additive this time as the valvetrain last time was quite noisy upon changing. May switch to a LIqui Moly additive next time dependent on valvetrain noise at the next change.

I don't install an oil filter and just let nature take its course. The engine runs a little hot, which is weird, but I top it off and it's ok for a little bit, then starts running hot again.

My brother had a '77 Ford F-150 with a 360 motor. When the valves rattled. He would put 5 quarts of oil into. :rofl2: Then drive some more. :driving: The motor had a cracked head, and bad valve guides. :shakes head:

Not original motor in that truck...'77 offered the 351M and 400M in lieu of the 360/390 from previous years.

I know because I own a '77.

In my Z I just use Mobil 1 oil and filters.

It might have been older then. I remember it being a 360. And being a rust bucket. The inner front fender wells. Rusted out in no time.

I love k&n due to the hex head on the top to easily get it off it'll its glued on from seal

Many of these brands are made by the same company.

For easy to find, low price and quality, NAPA Gold. Same as Wix.

Oil brand discussion is like virus. It causes a lock down.

I use Amsoil oil and filters in the Z. Everything else gets Mobil 1. Probably overkill using amsoil for the Z but I drive the car 2-4k a year and change it once a year so dont mind spending the extra cash. Most filter companies share media these days and make filters for each other so as Askmea? said they are probably made by the same company. I would just stick with wix, puralator etc.

I don't know about the relevance of who makes them, but the Amsoil and Mobil 1 filters are not the same.

Amsoil was the first in the business, any viscosity breakdown analysis vs. Any other competitor decimated it. I ran in all my Zs and lost zero amount of oil.

Join the many who fell for Amsoil marketing. I've tried them too but didn't stick with them.
The relevance is most brands don't matter anymore especially those name brands people swear by. I've tried a lot of filters and my Z says I don't give a 5h!+ what you put as long as it does the damn job.

Wix makes a lotta filters for other companies & this one is the Nissan long version for the GTR & Pickups, synthetic media for synthetic oils/ high quality.
Not knocking other brands, I’ve just always trusted Wix :tiphat:

Not sure if this is sarcasm or trolling or what, but, the one on the left isn't fake. I had the filters and took the picture myself. The picture shows differences externally and internally. That's all I'm getting at.

Abiogenic petroleum oil the best. I use 0w-40 Euro blend. It has everything your engine needs. :tup:

I'm laughing right now. I'm sorry. In the many years I've been here, I've never trolled. Differences in pictures doesn't mean it is made by different manufacturers padawan.
