Yup....Any time you mess with the airbag electrics (and turn the car on) it needs a reset.....

I accidentally started mine up with the passenger seat sensor unplugged...Doh!

Cost me $80 at the dealership for a re-set..

I pretty much followed the advice of everyone here except one person and failing to do that bit me in the you know what! I forget who said it but heed the advice of re-connecting the airbag indicator before testing the head unit. Of course I neglected to do that and I ended up with the flashing AIR BAG icon on the dash. I drove it that evening and it didn't seem to affect anything but it is very annoying. If you are like me during the install you probably had/have wires everywhere. Rather than install the head unit in the dash and repalce the dash trim just so I could connect the air bag switch I opted to test my head unit on my lap. Reconnecting the air bag switch is awkward as there isn't much wiggle room.
Anyway the reason for this post is to tell you how to turn that iritating light off. The procedure below worked for me. Youn might have to do it a couple or three times befor eyou get the timing right. I would like to take credit for it but it was taken from another website.

****IIMPORTANT****
Turn the ignition off as soon as the airbag light goes out the first time.

If you have the airbag light blinking here is how to reset it:

1. Push the start button two times (Ignition on but engine not started).

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off INSTANTLY.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

You Lucky! My local Nissan dealer would rape me with at least $80 and admitting drag racing...........most likely put it on my car records or kick me out of the service department.

That would have been nice, and I tried every trick in the service manual. If you can't get the system to cycle into diagnostic mode that technique won't work...(I had a solid light)

And getting it done for free? Fat chance with a set of Sparcos in the car and them knowing what happened..

Sometimes Mods have unintended consequences... It was my own fault. Everything had been fine for months until I started messing with the seat pressure sensor... I really did not expect them to pay for my screw-up.

I didn't buy my Z from local dealership, because the sales guy was kinda lame.

But the service guys there are all super nice. They installed my front license plate for free, and also they were going to remove my 3rd break light so I could paint it, for free.

They always compliment my car when I swing through

Hey i tried this on my car and it made the flashing light on the instrument panel go off but not the light that is next to the radio. Any suggestions

rodney fisher 07-14-2012 05:26 PM

Its off now

dmhenderson 07-14-2012 10:27 PM

Yeah was gonna say, either you took the seat out and didn't reconnect the sensor properly or it'll go off eventually once you perform the reset.
