don't think too many people hate the Supra here, some just thought the Z is a better car....

I like my Z, but would love to have an Supra. Lot of car for $55k.

nis350 07-11-2019 05:32 PM

The Supra advertised HP is way understated, but what is important is the actual performance which is very similar to the M4's that cost $20k more.

I am sure the after market tuners already have many goodies to make it even better.... ;)

I too replaced my e46 M3 with the 370z. Honestly, the M3 is better in all categories compared to the Z The e46 M3 motor is amazingly smooth and interior is better with the napa leather etc... Yes, I do know that the maintenace is much higher for the M3. ;)

The main reason for the replacement was because I really like the look of the car (my 3rd Z) and it was new to me while the M3 was old at the time.

It's probably not a fair comparison as the M3's MSRP was in the $60k's

I think comparing the new Supra (the version everyone seems to be referring to at least) to a 30k$ Z is as ridiculous as comparing the 86 to a Nismo Z. Perhaps the real comparison price and style wise should be the Supra v Corvette.

So who's picking this Supra over a Corvette??? For starters, not I!

:iagree: Not a GM or vette fan even though the c8 looks cool, new Supra for me. Just hope they make a manual.

I guarantee your neck and your mouth will drop when you see the new Supra on the road or up close in person. I was told it looks even better in person lol

Same here... definitely with a manual gearbox or the DCT equivalent.

Price to price. I'd pick the Supra. If I bought a corvette? Its grand sport or better. Z51 isn't all that by comparison of a grand sport. A grand sport is 70k to start. A supra is $57k to finish.

There’s a dealer down here that’s pushing grand sports out the door at $57,000 to $59,000.

You're monkeying with the comparison when you start comparing Corvettes. I'm sure you can spend all you want on a Supra to get it over 70k.

No Manual on the Supra. 8spd auto. Rumor has it 2019 will be the last year for a Vette with a manual trans.

Apparently, the boy racers can’t hold their lattes’ and phones, text and shift all at the same time, so something had to go...

I'm not getting one, but I won't deny that it'll be a better car than a stock Z34. My sister is getting a launch edition when it arrives later this month/next month, so I'm PUMPED to try it out.

Anyway, to get back on topic - I didn't watch the video but I agree with a lot that's being said here - 86 and 370Z (especially a Nismo) shouldn't even be compared. That's not to say one car is better than the other, but they are just in different classes it doesn't even makes sense. The only thing that have in common is that they are both Japanese RWD coupes :P

She gonna put a fart can on it to impress all the fast and furious Honda fanbois?

65k msrp. First year will probably average 75-80k packaged up. Those 90s supra owners that made it will probably get back into it because
1) its a supra
2) novelty of a brand new platform
3) bmw engineered

Dude stop. What was that all about? The Supra was her high school car (before F&F came out) so she's been waiting for it for a long time. No need to hate on her. Stop making Z community look bad with this childish hating.

By the way, she's getting the Supra at MSRP. She worked hard to get this car and waited a long time to get it. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you need to bring down the excitement of others.

Anyway, you're way off topic and you're spamming the thread. This thread is supposed to be about the NISMO and the TRD 86.

Justint5387 07-12-2019 10:57 AM

People just like to hate on a car they don't have.

I like the BRZ/86 platform, they are more fun to drive in the corners, but dreadfully slow on the straights. They are the most fun cars I driven at autocross.

The Supra looks cool to me, sure it looks a little too racerish but it's also what makes it different. It's gonna blow the doors off a bolt-on Z unless you go FI, too bad they only made it in Auto and not DCT or manual.

Mine was an e36, and a 328i not an M, so your comparison is different from mine, though that's inconsequential given the subjective nature of your statement. While I'll give it a nod for balance, exhaust note, and obviously engine smoothness and torque curve (with the melodious straight six, none of those were ever up for debate), power difference aside, it didn't corner even remotely close to the Z. It was easier to feel out the limits though, whereas that certainly takes time in the Z. Interior, meh, no different from touring other than the wood finishes and inferior HK stereo (moonroof was nice though). Having only test driven new 335s back when I was looking at the Z, I can't really give any meaningful feedback on them other than the fact that their footprints felt WAY too big, their body roll was noticeable, and there was some lag in the throttle. I also didn't appreciate the lack of that analog mpg counter at the bottom of the instrument cluster. Obviously the e46 didn't suffer from that shortcoming to the same degree, but even it was a pig compared to the e36 size wise.

To counter your point though, in Motortrend skid pad tests the e46 m3 had a lateral g rating of .86 whereas the Z (sport package) pulled .91-1.01, so with respect to cornering, your memory of the e46's cornering ability may be a bit hazy. Also, the e46 m3 was only a $45k car so the comparison seems fair enough.

I don't know why anyone gives two sharts what some random person on, or off, the internet thinks of anything. I'm currently driving a '13 Fiat 500 so the 86, 370z and Supra all sound awesome to me.

nis350 07-12-2019 04:14 PM

The e30 and e46 M3's are my favorite. I don't have any experience with the non-M BMW's. They are more like luxury cars to me. The e46 isn't a pig over the e36. it has almost 100 more hp and one extra gear. e36 M3 is a great car, but I felt the e46 is better.

I'm doubtful you could have gotten an e46 m3 for $45k. The base model without any options in 2005 was close to $50k and in the mid $50k's fully loaded. And that is 14 years ago money.

As far as handling goes, you're right. The Z does feel better.

The e30 M3's are my favorite of the M's as well. By pig I was referring entirely to the body/footprint, certainly not the specs because they were quick cars (and lightyears faster than the e36's).

nis350 07-12-2019 05:45 PM

I got you. ;) I too dislike big sporty cars as the newer cars are getting bigger each iteration. Personally, I think the e46 M3 is about as big as I wanted. The Z is perfect in that aspect.
