SRM won't rev past the redline in neutral lmao. That's not a money shift. |

I have bounced of the limiter due to SRM. The only way I can think of to over rev a modern engine is to mechanically force it to by money shifting. |
Well it makes sense they would design it like that. I have heard of the revmatch feature on a BRZ revving past redline in neutral but it was due to a part failure.

Notchy shifting and feeling bumps while shifting in to gear

Yeah I guess that could be possible as well. I feel like the SRM could also save your *** in case of a money shift because the car would rev all of a sudden and you realize what's happening hopefully before you dump the clutch. |
Agreed

Bounced off the limiter.. panicked and tried to throw it into fifth; felt a lot of resistance so I went back to neutral and bounced off the limiter again. No issues for the 120 miles it took to get home, which included two more WOT runs, and it worked today, but I'm keeping a very close eye on things.
Edit: to clarify, I never got into fifth and never let off the clutch during the attempted shift. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
Not sure about the BRZ (I thought that required aftermarket tuning to enable rev match), but there's no reason Nissan would deliberately make the car rev more than it should when the engine is disconnected to the drivetrain.
I'm guilty of this slip-up too, and I think it was attempting a quick 4 → 5 shift also. Engine just runs to the limiter. Of course, you wouldn't really want to hang at redline either, but the occasional hit shouldn't be a big deal. |

After 8000km i feel like the transmission finally melded and most of the shifts are butter smooth... it does feel like there are notches but it still glides in better than my old z.
I am pretty sure this is due to breaking in improperly |
Funny story about the rev match. When we first started looking at them, we test drove a used '15 Nismo. It had an aftermarket exhaust which was louder than stock. This immediately brought my attention to the throttle being blipped for what I thought was no reason whatsoever (I wasn't aware of the rev match). I thought something was wrong with car, even saying that to the salesman (though he should have known what it was).
So I laughed when I found out about it. That said, it's one of the things I like about my base model. It doesn't have it. Manually matching engine speed to vehicle speed is one of the charms of a manual transmission. It seems to me that if I wanted or needed rev match, I would just by one with an automatic transmission. |
