SRM won't rev past the redline in neutral lmao. That's not a money shift.

Have you done it?

Not saying you're wrong...

I have bounced of the limiter due to SRM. The only way I can think of to over rev a modern engine is to mechanically force it to by money shifting.

Well it makes sense they would design it like that. I have heard of the revmatch feature on a BRZ revving past redline in neutral but it was due to a part failure.

Yeah I guess that could be possible as well. I feel like the SRM could also save your *** in case of a money shift because the car would rev all of a sudden and you realize what's happening hopefully before you dump the clutch.

Agreed

Bounced off the limiter.. panicked and tried to throw it into fifth; felt a lot of resistance so I went back to neutral and bounced off the limiter again. No issues for the 120 miles it took to get home, which included two more WOT runs, and it worked today, but I'm keeping a very close eye on things.

Edit: to clarify, I never got into fifth and never let off the clutch during the attempted shift.

Not sure about the BRZ (I thought that required aftermarket tuning to enable rev match), but there's no reason Nissan would deliberately make the car rev more than it should when the engine is disconnected to the drivetrain.

I'm guilty of this slip-up too, and I think it was attempting a quick 4 → 5 shift also. Engine just runs to the limiter. Of course, you wouldn't really want to hang at redline either, but the occasional hit shouldn't be a big deal.

All perfectly normal AFAIC

If you have Rev match turned on, it will “Rev” when you shake the stick in neutral. I’m guessing there’s some kind of relay that tells the motor you’re in between gears and to “match” the revs, maybe your synchros or going?

Makes me think that if my trans starts shifting like butter, I’m going to have a problem?

Well I mean I don’t shake it when I’m still driving it’s usually when I’m stopped and am about to go into first but I’ve noticed that the auto rev match mode will feel a lot more notchy and will be harder to put into gear when driving also when you are driving make sure you are not slamming gears (Ik I sound like those guys I’m sorry) because I’ve noticed it’s getting better day by day if you slightly push it into gear it’ll shift a lot better than putting some force trying to shift into gears

I've had the same issue where my transmission used to just slip into gears nice and smoothly and slowly over the last two years it's became increasingly more notchy and rough and now it's begun to very occasionally grind/lock me out when shifting at higher load/rpm. I've done everything short of either replacing the transmission or just selling the car at this point, it has irritated me enough.

It has yet to grind or lock me out thankfully I had my dad drive it and give his opinion on it as well and he said it felt like any other mt car that he’s ever driven idk it might be all in my head who knows so I’m going to stick with his word and just keep swimming and hope he isn’t wrong

After 8000km i feel like the transmission finally melded and most of the shifts are butter smooth... it does feel like there are notches but it still glides in better than my old z.

I am pretty sure this is due to breaking in improperly

Funny story about the rev match. When we first started looking at them, we test drove a used '15 Nismo. It had an aftermarket exhaust which was louder than stock. This immediately brought my attention to the throttle being blipped for what I thought was no reason whatsoever (I wasn't aware of the rev match). I thought something was wrong with car, even saying that to the salesman (though he should have known what it was).

So I laughed when I found out about it. That said, it's one of the things I like about my base model. It doesn't have it. Manually matching engine speed to vehicle speed is one of the charms of a manual transmission. It seems to me that if I wanted or needed rev match, I would just by one with an automatic transmission.

I have never owned an automatic car yet my UK Base model MT has SynchroRev as standard. I didn't ask for it or specify it but I find it great just because its there and cost me nothing extra.:driving:

You can turn it off lol.

Yeah, but it's still something that can break. And you'd hope it would break where it just wouldn't work and not something goofy like intermittently revving the motor for no reason whether it's on or not.
