Petroleum Choices

What gasoline choices are you making?

To begin with - Nissan recommends 91 octane
My area has mostly "secondary" suppliers like Sheetz, Wawa, Turkey Hill, ect
Finding first tier gas is problematic like Exxon, Shell, BP, Sunoco, ect

My question is I am afraid that "Premium 91" is stale or contaminated at these stations since most people buy the Cheapest gas possible & the good stuff sits in the ground forever.

Does everyone buy 91 octane (with ethanol 10% - 15%)?
Does anyone run 89 octane - without problems?
Does anyone run "Ethanol Free" gas - without problems?

Mine is Not a daily driver and some fill ups last a long time if the weather sucks.
It IS Spring / Summer and I hope to be driving more often...

Lets Hear From You About Your Gas Choices - PLEASE :bowrofl:

I put gas in my car

BettyZ 05-17-2019 02:05 PM

Seb @ Specialty Z says he's seen performance gains of up to 10% with Shell 93 vs. the other brands.

I only use Chevron, Shell, or Exxon (in this order if one is not available). Gas is gas, but different companies add their own additives to the gas and is what differs amongst the brands.

I only drive my car twice a week (weekend car).

I thought that premium meant 93, so that's what I use. I'm not fussy about the brand.

Not necessarily. Some companies have 90 as their highest octane rating for their premium. And the additives do make a difference IMO.

Yeah, seb recommended shell premium. 93 octane is rare in socal. He gave me a tune for shell 91. And another tune for other than shell 91.

LennyK 05-17-2019 04:32 PM

NISSAN recommends 91 octane (minimum) - :driving:

In the U.S., unleaded gasoline typically has octane ratings of 87 (regular), 88–90 (midgrade), and 91–94 (premium).

Post Up What You (Buy) Use In Your Z

EXACTLY - me too (weekend roadster)
Seems like most of the "Brand" stations are being converted to "mini-mart" gas stations in my area and changing from "Shell, Exxon, BP, ect) to generic brands
Sheetz, Wawa, Turkey Hill and they buy anyones gas which is unable to be delivered or extra when the tanks are filled.

Only branded stations in my immediate area are Sunoco, and 3 years ago you could not find a Sunoco station. Collusion or competition agreements??

Nixin 05-17-2019 04:56 PM

I am in Toronto Canada, I only use Shell.

Also it depends on altitude. For a non-tuned Z 89/90 is okay but not preferable if you're in say, the Rockies.

I like Shell for my vehicles.
Only 91 octane at pumps here.
I have the Z tuned on 96.
I keep a drum at my house.
