Octane ..how about Ethanol?

one question we have not asked ourselves is if the gas we use has any ethanol and how much, I just saw a video on youtube "Scotty Kilmer" and he sure makes sense ...now back to the topic on hand :driving:

Some good info here most of all the gasoline brands you will find in the United States will have up to 10% ethanol mixed into the gasoline it is hard to get around it but, there are some places like certain areas of Canada that have ethanol free gasoline brands you have to shop around. Also all the grocery store brand gasoline stations I have seen use generic additives in their gasoline’s that is why it is slightly cheaper and I have talked to the fuelers before for the grocery store name brand gasoline stations and they confirmed and have even showed me their paper work the gasoline additive they use is a generic additive. In my opinion I would not use any grocery store brand gasoline even in my lawn mower let alone my Z. With gasoline you get what you pay for. For us guys here that go to the track it would be a bad idea to put low quality/cheap fuel in your Z it could damage your engine it is very possible this is why I am selective what gasoline brands I use in any of my vehicles.

I've found the best places to get 91/93 octane no-ethanol gas is around lakes or areas where snowmobiling is common.

Non-oxy fuel

The Minnesota Street Rod Assoc. (MSRA) has a link to locations in Minny & western Wisc selling non-oxy fuel.
http://msra.com/wp-content/uploads/2...on-oxy-May.pdf

Also here is a link they recommend for searching all states and Canada.
https://www.pure-gas.org/

I use BP 91 Premium non-oxy whenever I fill up near home.
I had a bad experience several years ago in my '93 TTZ using ethanol laced fuel that destroyed 3 injectors. So I replaced all 6 and swore I would never use this again in my Z.
I will not make that mistake again in my '14 Nismo, even though the plastics used in the injectors has most likely been improved.

To begin with - Nissan recommends 91 octane
My area has mostly "secondary" suppliers like Sheetz, Wawa, Turkey Hill, ect
Finding first tier gas is problematic like Exxon, Shell, BP, Sunoco, ect

My question is I am afraid that "Premium 91" is stale or contaminated at these stations since most people buy the Cheapest gas possible & the good stuff sits in the ground forever.

Does everyone buy 91 octane (with ethanol 10% - 15%)?
Does anyone run 89 octane - without problems?
Does anyone run "Ethanol Free" gas - without problems?

Mine is Not a daily driver and some fill ups last a long time if the weather sucks.
It IS Spring / Summer and I hope to be driving more often...

Lets Hear From You About Your Gas Choices - PLEASE :bowrofl:

If you don't use it for a really long time and use gas with ethanol in it, you might think about putting in a product like STA-BIL fuel stabilizer.
