I just ignore/don't acknowledge those types. People hate being ignored.

Ghostvette, glad to hear it's not just on this side of the state (not sure that came out right). When I was still a high school teacher, I put pictures of Porsches, Ferraris, Mercedes Ag, Nissan Skylines, Lambos, Jaguars, all manner of Z's and 40 years Formula 1 cars on a wall board. Thought the young guys would like them. Nope. We're confused what they were, called them "Tuners," (a Porsche 911 GT3, a tuner?) and some kids admitted whenever their dads, yes, their dads, saw a "Jap" sports car or "ricer," their words, not mine, they drive their Chevy and Ford pickups right up on their bumpers to intimidate them. Not just a few either.

I'm totally fine with them tailgating me in traffic. It puts them into a position where they don't have space to go around me; I now control them as I slow down to a speed where adjacent lanes are going too fast to cut into. Am I an ******* and maybe making traffic worse? Sure. Do I enjoy helping them lie in the bed they made? You bet.
Mind you, I don't left lane camp or anything. I'm the least aggressive driver. They could easily have just driven by, but they just have to display their machismo. Don't get me started on their light bars or how every ******* jeep has those ebay led headlights now that blind everyone. I've had some of my more redneck acquaintances brag about their lights and they'll blind someone that's in their way. So I mentioned that I'd just slow down, seeing how then I'd be blind. Their thought was well then they'll just ram me off the road. Sure, okay. I really don't understand that mindset. |

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rice As stated above it means many things to many people, however, what was the intent of the term? |
Quote:
Back in the day ricer was a derogatory term used for anyone who drove an import...Asian of course as they all ate rice ( we were pretty uneducated towards different races back then) and the term ricer really had no bearing on what nationality the person driving the car was....it was a jap car, RICER. We just lauged at them. Now, ricer has morphed into a term to describe meatheads that stick a Folgers fart can on thier tailpipe or duct taped a 6 foot wing on the trunk. Of course, things have changed quite a bit...nobody in their right mind laughs at a GTR for example. Over the years my attitude even towards the fart-can crowd has changed...back in my day we could buy a 6 banger Nova for a hundred bucks, drop in a 350 small block and a turbo 350 or 400 tranny, 12 bolt rear and go have fun. Young guys havent been able to do that for a long time now....so years back I sort of started sympathizing with these types..what can they do these days except cosmetic stuff on an old Honda....Hell, I dont even know if high schools still HAVE a shop class... We were all building engines in our parents garages at 15 or 16 (327 was my first) but today? Not so much. Oh, I think my little base Z is fantastic, just love it...but its not quite the same as riding around in my 2010 SRT8 6.1 hemi ;)...6M of course. Yes i know...apples and oranges...was just putting it out there ;) |

My experiences have been, it's a term to mock Japanese cars, beginning maybe with Tuner cars like Homdas? I was born with a natural tan and have heard all those names directed my way so I'm familiar with how there are used. Happened again today. I was on my way to a Bait/tackle/gun shop at Route 40 and Woods Chapel, Blue Springs, Missouri to pick up the lower receiver to a rifle I'm building. As I left, and pulled up to the light, a lifted light blue Dodge truck. White guy, ball cap, and playing some kind of rap I've never heard before. Really loud. Even my teen aged son never heard it before. He looks down at me, revs his engine, and does a burn out taking off real fast when the light changed. I just laughed. I have a Z not a John Deere.

You guys will say this is dumb or can be done with a six, but, please indulge me if you will. If I had the money, I'd like to find a rolling no drive train 370z, and dropped a stroked 5.6 V8 with either twin turbos or the right super-charger. That big block highly modified 57 Chevy that tried to race me last Sunday, in between the trucks, hmmm.
|
Not dumb at all. Do what makes you happy. Most people on here have pulled an Alice, i.e. gone down the rabbit hole of their choice.

All too funny and so true. Truck drivers ( the jacked up, redneck type) in my part of the world feel really entitled. They are the worst for courtesy and feel like they own the road.
The biggest issue out here, is not them wanting to race but tailgating. The race part comes inherently to them because they know they have 600HP and stupid torque to go with it. They are so high up and get the feeling of driving a 747, they get the same god complex pilots do. LOL. But this is where the fun begins. I cant count how many times these idiots have tailed me. I don't do it on purpose, but it's what traffic dictates. I don't like driving slow either. As soon as it opens up in front of me, that's when I pull away before they know what to do with that 600HP, 600ft.lbs of torque they so admire. They try to catch up, but it's too late. I'm in the turn now, and all that power and height advantage couldn't keep em glued to the floor even if they used gorilla tape. In the good words of Dirty Harry: "Man has got to know his limitations". ;) |

Same here. Tell me it ain't so in PA. I lived in Erie and Philly as a kid and PA remains on my list of places I might return. Other than my immediate family, I have no one here but lots of people back there
|
For BettyZ, I take that as a yes vote on my rabbit hole. If I ever have the money, watch out for a red "570Z." I've been working on a rabbit hole American car for years.

Backing out at night requires windows to be rolled down, but as long as it's moving forward, I don't have any issues with visibility. |

Say it ain't so. I went to a Z show and a guy had an LS in a 280z. Must have seen the chagrin in my face. Said it makes it go faster. Hey, he spoke to me, I had said nothing. I said, then why not get a Camaro? It's a cool car. The engine is the heart of the car. The Z is a sports car, not a drag racer. I also have a 68' Barracuda, 360, and see LS's in everything, some even GM. Would we put a Ford 351 Cleveland in a Camaro? A 429 in a Chevelle? A Mopar 440 in a Corvette? No! The Z guy insisted the LS was cheaper. I said he had no soul. If I bought a Porsche 911, guess what engine I'd want under the hood? As a teacher I heard the "drop in the LS" thing from high school students all the time... their lazy default. It's like rooting for the Yankees but you don't live in or near, and have never been there. It's okay, but it takes no imagination and is about as original as discovering we breath air. I had to school a lot of young people almost all who could not fathom why on earth anyone would Drive a Z. Don't you want a Ford or Chevy truck, Mr. s, they would intone. Oh brother.

That was before we knew about good tires, suspensions, bigger brakes; you know all the stuff that might keep us from flying away... :bowrofl::bowrofl: |
Was cruising coming off the highway, windows down and just enjoying the summer evening. At the light, some dude in his 60s pulls up in a Audi A4. Lectures me how my car has too much power for someone for my age and how his Audi would smoke my car. As per usual I laughed and rolled my window up.
There was a time where this raised pick up was trying to race me on the highway. I would speed up and close the gap so quick and let off the gas and he would catch up again. He thought he was keeping up... Poor champ. At least I made someones day. |
