No, I tried it , but pretty much figured their electrical engineers had their act together , let alone the Japanese Transportation Safety board, or who ever writes the regs

I just went to the garage, started car and tried to release hatch. No dice. Neutral, parking brake on, no difference.

Turn car off and the hatch releases instantly.

Mine is the Touring Sport Coupe, if that makes any difference. I can't see them making to different harnesses/wiring set-ups for the same vehicle, but I have seen weirder stuff before.

I just checked my '18 & the trunk will open with the engine running.Once the car is moving though, it won't open.

I have added the switch to my 2017, it will open the trunk with the motor stopped or running but haven't tried whilst driving.

I bet there are differences in the harnesses they use between my base and your sport. Probably a lot of them. Perhaps my simpler base model just doesn't have the particular connector.

Be interesting if another member with a 2018 base chimed in.

I checked the owner's manual (page 3-21) & it was on the vague side for information. It showed the valet on/off switch on the lh side of the glove compartment when it is open. Mine just has a blanking plate & I believe the valet feature is for the roadster which makes sense. No point in making them all the same & easy all 'round.

How did you manage to add a button?

I find the nismo gearing and exdedy clutch makes a big difference. Yea the transmission is notchy and stuff but the feel is there. You work it rewards.

Sometimes i get these super smoot butter shifts. Other times the shifting feels clunky but the car still goes. 5000km on my baby already and about to park her.

What's the point of reviewing a car that hasn't changed significantly in a decade? In 2009 it was an amazing leap forward with 330+hp and rev matching. Now it's outdated... and not any "worse" for that, it's just that the competition has caught up and Nissan (in typical fashion) hasn't bothered to do anything about it.

I'm keeping mine because I still don't see anything affordable that I like better.

How many times did the guy in the video say "old"? :)

I love my Z and will be keeping it for the foreseeable future.

The mystery is solved. I pulled the battery cables off on Monday evening to reset the ECU after messing with TPMS sensors. Wanted to see if the tool I purchased "really" worked ( it did ).
I started the car, drove about 20 minutes, parked and without even thinking about it pulled the hatch switch. Car was in neutral, ebake on and the latch popped open.

Now, I think this could have been a glitch and I honestly don't think I'm THAT stupid as not to know how to pull a switch..BUT I accept the fault was mine and you were 100% correct all along.

I apologize to anyone who was misled by my posts, it was not intentional.

Peter

Here is another new review I think it is a 2018 sport. The review is from the UK.
