What's your ranking on GT5 Demo contest?

Started today:

#916: 1.42 and 1.57

Anyone here in the top 100?

How close is the game to real life? I haven't been on track so don't know how this car performs in reality, but if it's as hard as the game, this car is "out of control".

510z 12-19-2009 10:06 AM

10335 i think

iceman21_23 12-19-2009 08:35 PM

at one point i was 97th then the next morning i was like 330th

MC 12-20-2009 01:15 AM

im stuck at 1'39.886

the physics of the game are good but for the demo its set to professional and stability control off... i think with that it spins waaaay too easily.

280z/300zx 12-20-2009 01:52 AM

As of right now I'm:

2034 3'36.378 overall
3289 1'41.710 tuned
2525 1'54.668 stock

I'm sure this will change by morning but I will keep trying to best myself until Jan 25th. As for compared to real life, the car seems a bit more forgiving in real life than in the game. At least when I auto-x it seems a lot easier to correct plus you can feel when the car is going to lose traction where in the game you can't. Then again the track in the game is more of a road course which I don't have experience with; I suppose at higher speeds the car may not be as forgiving.

eddieconfetti 12-20-2009 02:48 AM

way to hard for me with the controller. im about to go buy the logitech wheel to help me out.

RaptorGTS 12-20-2009 08:25 AM

I'm at 1:41 tuned and 1:50 untuned. I havent really spent much time on the untuned car. I went and got a Logitech wheel 2 days ago just for the demo.

The demo is definately not as forgiving as the real thing IMHO

GonGo 12-20-2009 09:47 AM

After having Forza 3 since launch playing the Gran Turismo 5 370z demo is almost unbearable...
throttle control and brake modulation is a joke using the ps3 controller, and the game lacks proper input from traction conditions and track...

but it looks pretty.. i guess.

Its impossible with a controller, but with a steering wheel its nice.

Forza is too "arcadey" and not real enough compared to GT5. It will give you bad habits that will be hard to break on GT5.

theDreamer 12-20-2009 10:18 AM

Have not had a chance to play yet, but I find it interesting so many of you are commenting on the accuracy or inaccuracy of the car. It is interesting to see how well the car matches real life, especially seeing as many people here track/auto-x their Z.

I wouldn't call Forza "arcadey". To me, they're both about the same in simulation ability.

I just can't do well on the controller for GT5 after using the MS Wheel for Forza now for about a year now. It's too responsive. Slighest nudge or press reacts too much.

I think the detail in the scenry is better in Forza...but that's just fluff.

ctzn 12-20-2009 01:51 PM

I have to use both joysticks as it is impossible to get the throttle and steering modulation correct with the d-pad. I don't think I have put together a solid lap yet in either, yesterday my overall rank was 411 I think, I am sure I have fallen quite a bit today though.

Ha yeah right now I am 785

tuned time of 1'40:5
normal time of 1'52:4

I wonder who all the "GTP_..." people are at the top...

Forza is much more forgiving though, its easier to regain control if you are spinning out. Forza is very playable with just a regular controller, GT on the other hand is not.

And I dont think its fair to compare either games just yet, as it is merely a demo of the physics and driving, and not necessarily a representation of the final product.

I'm guessing its a clan/group on GT Prologue

Yeah, THAT'S all I need...two wheels in the house !!! :eekdance:

I would say Forza 3 is more forgiving (as they designed for the masses a bit more) but Forza 2---FWD can be a mutha !

tinysumo 12-20-2009 10:57 PM

Best time I've got with the tuned Z was 1.39.7 a few days ago. I was ranked 174 but its dropped a couple hundred spots by now haha....

MC 12-20-2009 11:18 PM

im off this demo... ive played it hours and hours and more hours and am knocking just hundreths off my 1'39 thats all.. i know its a sim but if the 370z really spun that easily in real life 70% of you guys on this forum would be in a damn ditch somewhere... seriously im over here chasing my ghost but i cant over take it because i have to drive like im on ******* egg shells or the back end will come around for no good reason.. any pedal modulation out of a turn and your done.....

RaptorGTS 12-21-2009 12:08 PM

Its a pain in the ***, but if someone else is doing it I should be able to also.

It just bugs me that there is a chance that some of the leaders are probably kids who dont even have a car...

edit: Oh and I just thought of something. You think maybe adjusting the force feedback/sensitivity on the wheel settings would help make the car more manageable?

MC 12-21-2009 03:37 PM

its possible, i didnt even think to mess with that but to me its the throttle sensitivity more than the steering... im using the new logitech GT that came out with prologue, i think it has more to do with the new physics plus professional setting with ASM off instead of the standard with ASM on that ive played for my entire life as far as cutting time i know alot of people are taking off almost a full second by running almost all 4 tires over that cement patch to the right of the last turn before the straightaway, if you do it just right it cuts the entire corner if you go too far over it will say " next lap invalidated"

mayhem052 12-21-2009 05:03 PM

I had a near perfect lap then the thing went into limp mode :stirthepot:

shabarivas 12-21-2009 05:14 PM

ROFL - well you guys realize the tuned one is FAR from a 370z lol... the untuned one is close but the tires are just N2s

nicknick 12-21-2009 05:27 PM

Who cares it is a game and this is a car forum. If you want to play games stop annoying people on this forum with silly games. go out and drive the real thing.

Yes "States the guy who doesn't own a 370z, let alone a Nissan in general.......'
so what. i have nothing against the Zed in fact someday i will own one. I just don't see the need or care about games and i do not see how they enrich this forum. Maybe this thread should be in game thread/forum. Games are for kids.

This thread is about people attempting to reach the top 20 slot so they can race a 370z on a real course. Yes, many of the posters are owners of the car, but that is part of it. They are talking about how their own car is different from the computer car, while also sharing their own rank.

Also, "games are for kids," you definitely do not understand video games or the concept behind them. This is not the thread for it though.

Then quit wasting your time reading this thread. Its in general discussion for a reason.

I dont see how YOU "enrich this forum", so you should quit posting right?

The point is, not everything posted on this forum will be about the 370z or about mechanical or technical subjects. Thats why these forums have an "off topic" and "general discussion" section. If you are only interested in material regarding the 370z then just dont waste your time reading these threads.

TARDCORE 12-21-2009 08:25 PM

Before I joined this forum (I was a lurker since march) I remember seeing posts by nick and none of em have ever been positive. :ughdance: ever ever

It kinda does relate to the offline road going 370z! Check out what happened to the previous winner of the Nissan Race Academy

I wish there was a way to weed out the kids on this forum. I am also a member of some other forums and have a pretty good sense of what is a mature forum. There are some shockers out there. This forum is generally pretty good though.

If you are referring to me I'm 23, live on my own, buying my own house. I dont think that qualifies as a kid.

No one is forcing you to post in this thread, just click a different link and post your douchebag comments elsewhere.

Also about the kids comment.. ya not so much.

Slynky 12-22-2009 04:34 PM

Well, :wtf:

What is a "kid"? I play Forza, Motorstorm, Ridge Racer, and some other racing games. I'm 58. Guess I'm guilty of being a kid at heart.

MightyBobo 12-22-2009 11:21 PM

So after playing it for about 10 minutes tonight and using the ever-so-not-amazing PS3 controller to try to race, I clicked a few 1.55.xxx's off in the stock-er.. I THINK my best was 1.55.110. Not bad if I do say so myself - I havent touched GT5:P in months, at best. I'll mess around with the tuned car tomorrow.

Oh, worthy of note...anyone notice GTP_SpyHunter at position 9 or so for best combined times? Yeah, he's my friend from Omaha. I got to ride in his car at an HPDE earlier this year. That guy can f-ing drive, in real life AND in game.

sylenze 12-23-2009 03:10 PM

i wish we get the same prize as the european countries though...

True - to some degree... but if you have lost the kid in you then I feel sorry for you. Also - I consider GT5 more of a simulator - something there to teach people who cant drive (fast) how to expect your car to handle under extreme conditions w/ limited consequences (dying battery / restarting the course)...

You can always just stay away from these threads no? I mean if you think its for kids why get in here? Its not like the people who contribute here are going to "grow" up and stop playing.

MightyBobo 12-23-2009 03:59 PM

1'52.443 for untuned
1'40.492 for tuned

Those are my best times with the poopy controller right now. Maybe I'll go snag one of the G27's here before the event expires :-p

*edit*
Keep taking those times down :)

RaptorGTS 12-24-2009 09:32 AM

I'm at 1:397 tuned and 1:521 untuned

Going to do a few more laps right now.
