If I drive it again however I won't cover it until I wash it because of dragging the dirt and dust on the paint when I put the cover back on. The car is black so you can see EVERY SINGLE imperfection. It's honestly really stressful.

My Z is a 2012 touring/sport. I bought it used off the car lot in late 2015 with 10,700 miles on it. It now has 15,900 miles and has it's regular place in my garage. I do need to drive it more, I know. And I love to drive it! The nice thing about being in SE Colorado is it doesnt snow all that much, and when it does, melts off quick. But the big plus is they dont use salt on the roads here, just gravel.

Yeah, black is beautiful, it is also a bitch!

On those nice sunny days beware of the salt dust left on the road!

Oldguy, they do use some salt here but it's mixed with lots of sand to minimize the run off crap from damaging the vineyards & fruit orchards.:tiphat:

Salt here, only salt :icon14:. And we really don't get tons of snow up here in Toronto, but a few inches of snow, salt on every damn road.

They sure make cars a lot better than they used to. I have an '02 Avalon that is still rust free and has been through 15 Chicago winters. My old American cars would have been rusted hulks years ago. I still have the original exhaust system on the Toyota...knock wood. Plus, I haven't been the best at getting the salt off right away either. I'm not too worried about the Z.

Had a '77 ferd f150 4x4, bought new. Both inner front fenders rusted out in 3 years. Had to fiberglass patch what was left of the inner fenders to pass state inspection. Ferd dealer didn't want to inspect it, even tho I bought it there. :shakes head:

That's funny. I had a F250 and the oil pan rusted out...go figure. Pretty bad when something is full of oil and still rusts. Where does Ford get it's metal? And that was a 2001 truck.

If you're old enough you'll remember it was Honda & Toyota (in the early seventies ) that forced the big three to get their quality problems ( and there were many ) straightened out ! Rust was a huge problem. 3yr. Old cars were rusting and falling apart in the driveway. Rust stains on the pavement.
Ford F series in the early 2000s what a joke!

I drove mine all year round in AB and SK, put on 400,000kms in 6 years, sold the car to a guy that drove it to NB.

I drove mine pretty much everyday, always put a smile on my face even after 2 week road trips. But I get what you are saying.

I lived in MI until I was 28. Worked at a gas station during high school in the mid 70s and would always laugh when a 2 year old Chevy Vega would pull in with holes so big you could put your fist through them.

Cars certainly have improved

First wife had a Vega. It was check the gas and fill the oil. And the tranny bolts to the motor would never stay tight. The threads was too big in the motor.

We got a coating of snow yesterday, and I must have counted 5 snow plows throwing salt on the roads every half hour.

And so it begins...

LOL... That first summer when I worked at that gas station, there was a lady in a green Vega who would show up every day (seriously, EVERY day) with $1.50 in change and get the same thing each time.. A quart of oil, a gallon of gas and a pack of Marlboro Reds. Each of those were 50 cents right then. And she got one of each and every single day with her 6 quarters.

But an even more memorable part was that she must have been allergic to money because she always handed me her change with a rubber glove on.....

To this very day, I’m scared of anyone with a rubber glove on, because I know someone is going to get their oil checked... :p

ayrton88 11-20-2017 04:47 PM

My ex wife had a Vega when I first met her. It used oil so fast that her mechanic told her she never had to change it, just put a new filter on every once in a while. That was at the dealership!

In the early '70's. I worked at a gas station in a college town. Had one guy in a Triumph TR6. He used to bum money from everyone. Everyday at the same time. He would come in and get gas. Anywhere from $.85 to $2.00. The price of gas at this time was around $.40 a gallon. On Friday when he would come in to get gas. His car would be loaded up with dirty clothes. He went home every Friday for the weekend.

Not to hijack this thread, but all the horror stories concerning American car quality makes me angry. There really was something criminal about Detroit knowingly foisting absolute crap on the buying public and to getting away with it so long. It wasn't just one company but all of them. I swore I would never buy another American car and even though I know the quality is better, I never will. Rant over!

For a while. The Japanese was just as bad, if not worst. Early Civic's were great for head gaskets and being complete rust buckets. My 1990 Nissan Hardbody 4x4. The inner fenders and bed rusted out in 7 years.

Yeah, you are right. My '79 Civic had pretty poor paint and were also know for the shock towers rusting out. But, it never let me down and always started no matter the weather. I had a Maverick that wouldn't start on a beautiful summer day...totally at random. My big three cars were always leaving my stranded. The Japanese cars were just better engineered.

Same here on both accounts. I was kind of shocked when I had the service done before storage and was told I only did 400 miles this summer. Now she is sitting till March with 5300 miles.

Mine stays parked if there’s a lot of rain in forecast or a rare snow chance; otherwise I let it gulp the cold air & enjoy it year round.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...284ed0f771.jpg

Well not living far from you, I'm the same way. Though my Z is not my dd, I do run it weekly and am getting about 12k a year on it.

No storage for me

Rusty 11-24-2017 07:32 AM

Normally I park mine around Dec. 1 and bring it out April 1. This year it got parked in July. :shakes head:

Rusty; that 7A/T works really well with those 3.692 diff gears!
Almost 90k on mine & shifts are on spot-as long as my fluid is clean.
It’s like a Tranny Tune-Up every time I perform a drain & fill.

Cali, the land of flakes, nuts, and fruits. I don't like the taxes, politic's, anti-gun, drugs, homeless, home prices, and a few other things that I won't mention. The only thing you have have going for you is the weather.

When I finally button her up for the long winter nap, I will have put 25K on this season. I have date nights where I listen to tunes and drink beer in her over the winter. Nice to have heated garage. :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

I use as by DD from the time I can take it out in the spring, until I have to put away. I have an 80 mile commute per day. Oh well, I will join the high milers.

Came with lifetime warranty on engine and drivetrain, I upgraded for the lifetime warranty on the rest. Didn't cost that much. I figure I will drive until warranty will not cover.

It is my daily Zen time!

Rusty 08-27-2018 10:53 PM

When I park mine for the winter in Nov. I might put 2,000 miles on it this year. :(
