Garage floor paint suggestions
 

I think this post maybe should be in the “lounge” area for off topic discussions, but after looking there, those posts are way off topic, so I apologize if I’m posting this in the wrong area.

I want to paint my garage floor (heated oversize 2 car garage) and looking at a 2 part epoxy paint, does anyone have experience with this and a recommendation? I have heard about staining concrete as well.

I think it will be easier to keep clean if I paint it or spill something on it.

I have heard stories about warm tires cooling and when you pull out the next time a piece of the paint sticks to the tire, etc.

I used the stuff you can buy at home depot or lowes, forget which one, but I think it is quikrete brand.

I've had it in my garage for over a year now. Been wonderful for protecting against oils and liquids and has held up to abuse just fine. I would, however, suggest not using the "flakes" they come with and just using a solid color you would like. The flakes make it hard to find small parts that you drop on the ground since they will basically just blend in with the flakes. If I could do it over again, I'd get a solid creme color :tup:

No matter which system you get, remember to spend most of your time on the prep. People that have had hot tires pickup the paint didn't properly prep the surface for adhesion.

Go with the ruber tile if you want something that cleans easily. And it looks sweet! Check John Bradley's album.

If I was going to do it, I think I'd look at (somehow) making sure there was a proper moisture barrier in place on the concrete garage floor and then put some kind of tile down.

Don't quote me on this but if there isn't a good way to keep the moisture from "coming up", I think the tile will come loose and curl at the corners...a real unsightly mess.

tile looks great. Did you do it or have someone install it? Also do you know the brand?

I was talking to our painter that is doing the inside of your house and he just said that he thought the garage floor concrete has a sealer on and epoxy paint doesn't adhere to sealed concrete, can anyone add some more insight to that?

I did mine with the Quikrete stuff. The prep wasn't bad and the paint went down pretty easily. Check my album for more pics of the etching and prep.

Yeah, I think this alot better than paint..
If you paint you have to prep the floor, that sucks ..I did it in my plane hangar and cussed the whole time.
The tiles are 1/2" thick...they can be replaced if anything ever happens to them, 15 year warrranty !!

If your garage floor was poured correctly there should be no moisture coming thru... I had none to start with.. I did put down a fabric, (same fab you use in the bush beds to keep out weeds in the yard).. It keeps the floor from possibly making any clanking noises when you walk on it.. I dont think it really needed it, but thats what they recommended..

So, then, what are the tiles made from if a sort of clanking noise is possible. Hard rubber? Plastic? Something like neoprene? A "linoleum" type of compound?

they are injection molded hard plasitc with diamond plate surface .. I was worried about the clanking noise too.. but i went and saw some floors already done and realized there is no problem, but he suggested I put down the fabric just for peace of mind.. Once the tiles are all linked together its very heavy and makes no sound or moves.. I'm very happy with them. They can custom match your car color too, or do logos.. I'm having a 5foot Z logo done to replace the tiles in the center of the room :)

I wouldn't have guessed that material. So, does it need to be glued? I tried that website and it seems to be just a way to point to other sites.
