Top Reasons For Being Pulled Over???

Have heard the obvious with other cars.... speeding, tint, etc. What are the top Z reasons for getting stopped?

Breaking the law in some manner.

xcomms 07-05-2017 08:31 AM

Exhaust....

My neighbor has an aftermarket exhaust. Nothing too loud and there was a cop in the neighborhood and as soon as he left his driveway he was stopped. Let him go but stopped him for it.

Never knew this was an issue that was enforced but there must be some community sound ordinance that he violated.... Again it wasn't too loud sounding to me. Louder than stock of course but I have heard much louder.

No front license plate :)

Sway 07-05-2017 09:07 AM

No front license plate is the only reason I've ever been pulled over in the Z. *knocks on wood*

:iagree:

I've yet to get pulled over in the Z (jinxing myself) but with my prior cars, this was the #1 reason.

nandosman 07-05-2017 10:14 AM

I wasn't technically pulled over, but a cop that checks the area where I work, saw me in the morning and followed me until I parked, just to ask me what my Vanity plate meant. He said he's seen my car several times and always wondered what it meant (it was my social media profile). Very nice guy.

radix023 07-05-2017 10:28 AM

In my 3+ months of ownership, no "officer friendly" incidents yet (Waze don't fail me now!). I've had an officer follow me in highway traffic, changing lanes etc to stay behind me.

For prior vehicles: all for exceeding the speed limit with one exception: One car I bought the dealership put the wrong year on the temp tag (it was bought end of year, so not that hard of a mistake to make) and I got pulled over to check on the tag.

Georgia has tight limits on tinting unless you've got a medical reason like Lupus. Honestly I'm not certain about the noise ordinances.

Whew!! That's a good one! I knew a guy who had a wide body kit on a MR2 Spyder and he was stopped because the cop was curious about the car.

crazy4oldcars 07-05-2017 10:47 AM

Only one stop so far. Over the speed limit. Lectured and let go with a verbal warning. I asked if they were going to step up patrols, cause I was tired of people trying to run over my ***. It's a work zone, and people regularly run 20 or more over posted speeds. I was only running about 7 over.

OptionZero 07-05-2017 11:05 AM

there's nothing special about the Z that gets it pulled over any more than any other sports car

don't drive like an idiot or add any special stuff to the outside that draws attention (i.e. a bigass wing), and comply with your local license plate requirements

cops are looking for:
1) stuff that draws their attention, like aforementioned bad driving, speeding, etc
2) a reason to stop someone they're already going to stop, in which case . . . ur getting stopped no matter what car you drive

HEK 07-05-2017 11:07 AM

I was stopped by a young cop during a blizzard and he asked me if I should be driving in the snow with a sports car....all I had to do was show him my snow tires and he just laughed....he said good luck and don't crash...:driving:

Raeshlavik 07-05-2017 12:36 PM

No close encounters of the police kind in this Z (yet) - but I got pulled over two different times in my old 300ZX TT back in the 90's "just to make sure I actually owned it" :)

Once I pulled myself over... Same 300ZX TT, also back in the 90's: I was goofing off with some Porsche at like 2am on highway 36 between Boulder and Denver, at ludicrous speed, when I noticed rollers WAAAAAAY back there - like a couple of miles back there...

The Porsche took off and I pulled over to wait for the hammer... The officer had no idea how fast I was actually going, but knew it was too damn fast - but being as I was at least pretending to be a responsible adult he let me off with a warning. :)

My AL Priority "Parking Sensors" saved me from being pulled over this morning =)

Ticket? Emissions or noise?

noise. 1 ticket so far (which I go to court on the 20th for after 2 extensions and a court date to place a not guilty plea). The other two I just show my previous ticket and they let me go.

Apparently cops don't like the sound of my engine :ughdance:

TreeSemdyZee 07-05-2017 04:54 PM

I'm not sure the Police know either.

To quote the State cop that pulled me over, "What are you doing?".

So he obviously didn't know either.

Most likely the speed 'cuz I didn't have any donuts on the passenger's seat. :icon17:

BboyZ 07-05-2017 08:48 PM

I haven't been pull over on my Z. thank god!.

ChaseZ 07-05-2017 08:48 PM

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"Because I let you" :D

jaedub 07-05-2017 09:05 PM

I got a ticket for going 73 on a 65. That highway patrol was an a$$. Got pulled over 2nd time for modified exhaust. Swapped it back to stock and got it checked off. Once I arrived back home from the court, I immediately swapped it back to my F.I.

That sucks! How much was the ticket?

Ventruck 07-05-2017 10:54 PM

Got a ticket while parked for no front plate. I was waiting for my mount when I just got the car -____-

Been tailed by a motorcycle cop for light speeding. Basically just checked me, didn't pull over.

Why is it some states insist on that front plate? I'm in Florida and they don't but when I lived up north you had to have it.

JARblue 07-06-2017 06:42 AM

Soliciting an undercover cop posing as a prostitute.

Not that I've done it ... I'm just guessing it might have happened.

that s*cks. The rule of thumb in ATL is you get 10 mph over. I've been told by an officer that in some places they will give you as much as 15mph. (Heck I've heard that 5mph over is the least attention-getting, apparently rigorously sticking to the speed limit is considered suspicious)

I can't think of a logical reason why other than "revenue" and to give cops another reason to pull you over.

I don't understand how Pennsylvania hasn't turned into a Mad Max style wasteland because of their no front plate law. /sarcasm

HaHa
I used to think it was because they have the ability to scan your plate from far away if you are going toward them but they can get your speed regardless.

Your thought on Revenue being a deciding factor makes the most sense. I had to google it and came across this. Apparently Denver generates 23 million dollars per year in these tickets for no front license plate.

Front license plates: Are they really necessary?

That 23 million is from our one toll road... We don't have toll-booths, just cameras, and they scan the front/rear plates to mail you the bill at the end of the month.

A lot of folks hate E470 because of the tolls; I love it because it's 75 and well maintained... That 23 million makes for some amazing asphalt. :D

The rest of Denver Metro's roads look like something out of WWII London... We drive a lot of Jeeps here, but not because of the mountains...

Please keep the LEO/Cop bashing out of this thread.

Since that is a Forum Rules violation.

I have zero tolerance for it here, and I will not hesitate to take action.

Secondly I don't want to see any future street racing posting as to what led to being pulled over.

Any further continued problems and I'll just close this discussion.

I hope I can have everyones cooperation.

Trips.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean to start the thread to break rules. Just curious about why people get stopped in the Z. Exhaust, Mods, Sports Car profiling, etc.

I paid about $300 for the speeding ticket. Being pulled over for modified exhaust was a fix it ticket so there is no initial fine but there are other costs involved like court fee, inspection, etc

markesc 07-07-2017 02:07 AM

I've been pulled over ZERO times and I've ran no front plate since day one, so about 40 months of ownership. Stock/boring looking/excessively cleaned!

I think a lot on here would enjoy watching the channel on youtube by "officer401" As he puts to rest a lot of the preconceived notions and rumors.

Great person, about as honest and straightforward as you're going to get, and he does discuss the whole quota thing for those that are curious. Extremely funny person as well!:

It was registration decal on tag covered by plate frame.

JARblue 07-11-2017 09:51 AM

In Texas your license plate frame is not supposed to cover the word "TEXAS" on the license plate itself. Just about every dealer in the state uses a frame that is technically illegal. I found it somewhat difficult to even find an aftermarket one that complied.

But I've only ever heard of one person getting a ticket for it, and that idiot was pulled over for reckless driving. The cop added illegal tint (it was pretty much limo tint) and a violation for the Hewlitt Chevrolet dealer license plate frame that was on his car :icon17:
