Well you are on a Z forum afterall and you can ask about any other car and would have drawn it out regardless. ;)

I used to own an MR2 Spyder and was on a forum like this and some poor guy started adding Porsche items to his Spyder and I have never seen an online beatdown quite like it. This Z forum (with some funny exceptions) is far more tame compared the MR2 guys.... :tiphat:

One guy I will never forget said something like:

"That's good why don't you add the Porsche side mirrors? Oh and after that why don't you add the emblems? In fact why don't you just go by a Porsche and GET THE FU_K OUT OF HERE!?!?!" :roflpuke2:

Good luck with the new ride.... Maybe you will be back!

If I lived somewhere frozen I'd probably go for the STI too....but it would be a DD and I'd have some cheap fair-weather project like a boosted Miata or something.

It's not just Subarus. There's more than a few members here who absolutely lose their **** if someone sells their Z for any other car. You should see what happens if you trade for a Mustang. :rofl2:

There's a group called the silent majority, and that may apply here. I know of people who've had Subies and have been very happy with them. I can also understand your need for an awd in Canada, so best wishes on your new purchase and hopefully the person who buys your Z, comes on this forum. Aloha!

You knew what you were going to do even before you asked the question.

got the sti since i got kiddos, back seats come in handy, and I needed something more practical but with performance lol

Raeshlavik 07-05-2017 10:03 PM

Hot-rod Subarus are like the Colorado state car, so you can't more more than about a hundred yards without seeing one, in blue, with some go-fast red letters on 'em.

One of the reasons I don't own one. :)

cooltoy 07-05-2017 10:32 PM

I think this thread is done. He traded the Z in.

bimbimbop 07-05-2017 11:51 PM

well considering he came on for 2 days to rant ... i just dont know what he really thought was going to happen..did he think a forum of Z fans would jump and say YES do it?

DamnThatZGuy 07-06-2017 09:46 AM

I want to know his after thoughts.

One thing OP if you need an excuse or someone to talk you into it, just join a STI Forum and you will get total different answers from what your asking here....we obviously like the Z and the STI owners will talk you into how much they love their cars....just saying....:driving:

Lvcky69 07-06-2017 04:35 PM

the sti is such a downgrade car

Anyone that would dare suggest such a wacky question absolutely deserves a Subaru.

Hang ten bro!

b15 07-10-2017 01:58 PM

STI limited with the huge wing delete is on my shortlist of sedans to replace the Z. I loved my Z but I'm looking to consolidate cars for awhile so it had to go. Never thought I'd be the guy saying I want the rear seat/second set of doors but after having a kid and never having time for the Z anymore, here I am.

My biggest concern with the STI is it still seems to have ringland issues when stock. A tune seems to resolve the problem but then voids your warranty. Lose/Lose almost.

OnCallZ 07-10-2017 06:15 PM

No, you should not get an STi, as a matter of fact in my field of work a lot of people really try to avoid getting them.

I drove mine in less than 1 inch of snow (took it out of storage early) and I almost got stuck going into a Tim Hortons drive thru which had a gradual incline. I was idling up it and going sideways. The Z in stock form from the factory is worse than any car I have drove for winter purposes.
Summer is another story :driving:

I've driven two winters in NJ so far. Only time it was bad was when the rear tires were bald.

Your Z looks much better than the STI.

Simply put, both cars are nice but if I was looking at AWD - I would at least test drive a RS or a Golf R. Simply put, both of those cars have more advantages than the STI. Don't get me wrong, the STI is nice but I were looking at a Subie, I would consider the WRX and tune it rather than go with a STI - the WRX has the newer and 'better' engine whereas the current STI has the same engine as the previous models. Probably could mod a WRX for much cheaper than a STI...just my .02

Breadz 07-25-2017 01:45 AM

Really love my friends WRX, She makes me want an Sti everytime i get into it. Wish the Z was more practical sometimes.

Bad pics, Will have to get some good ones

This 100%. I won't hate on the subie as they are pretty nice cars but the STI was pushing it from the factory and there are more than enough people that have had ring issues stock. So if you can't give the car 100% without fear that's it's gonna blow then why even bother with that much power since you'll either a have enough money to cover it when it blows (in which case your lucky and by all means buy an sti) or b you'll hold back or won't ever think to track it because you'll worry about what if it blows, at that point you should have saved the money and got a wrx. The new wrx is a much better and newer engine with fairly close power, your talking roughly 30hp stock which isn't huge and also isn't nothing but a wrx with a tune could bring you even nearer and will put just as much smile on your face all the while knowing you aren't on an engine that's already expired (Asian sti is already on the newer engine). As for RS or golf R I can't speak for fords euro branch but vw I would stay away from.

At the end of the day they are both good cars. I prefer my z but my friends wrx is not a bad car, another friend destroyed his new sti in a matter of months (ps the gas mileage is way less than advertised in real world driving) but it seems to be a car that encourages getting on it but then can't take the repeated demand.

Easy answer there but,the only thing I don't care for on the Subaru STI is the park bench in the clouds high spoiler. Overall if you look at the facts the Subaru STI is a reliable/dependable vehicle just like the Nissan 370Z is. In my experience the Nissan 370Z is not only the best vehicle I ever owned and it is reliable/dependable too you just have to do all the maintenance on them on time just like you would any other vehicle.

Except it's not. The current Sti has a nasty habit of cracking ringlands. To comply with emissions regs, Subaru programmed in a nasty lean spot on spoolup, where they should have been going richer. If you're willing to reflash the ecu in the parking lot of the dealer before you drive it home, you'll be fine - except you just voided the warranty before you know if you got a lemon.

2016 370z 07-25-2017 11:40 AM

From my personal experiences. GTI / Golf R > STi.

The VW is way cheaper to mod, more capable than STi (performance wise), and is a hatchback!

b15 07-25-2017 05:50 PM

Golf R is a nice car. My good friend has a mk7 r with a stage 1 tune and it has gobs of torque. I just can't bring myself to pay that much for one though. Same with the STI.

They're nothing to laugh at though. DSG shifts insanely fast. Plus you only have to spend 1/3 of the money on the GTI that you would have to spend on an STi to make it "fast".

A MK7 with downpipe, intake and tune will make higher numbers than a STi with full bolt ons on a stock block.

Those little buggers are crazy. :eekdance:

Too6Z 07-28-2017 09:40 PM

Not dogging the STI but why ask this question on a Z forum. We're all on here because we're Z enthusiasts. If you're not, by all means, best of luck with the STI. I'm sure it's a solid ride but I'm not about to tell you to sell your Z to get one. In the end it comes down to preference. I love my Z and wouldn't trade it for anything short of a Ferrari but if you don't feel the same, perhaps you should go for it.
