I hate the thought of performance (power) going down with the AC on. But with the SoCal weather soring up to 100 recently, it's currently on.

Out of the year, I'd say the AC is on maybe 25% of the time.

I am a window-down guy. Not a friend of dried air.
Normally only use A/C at speeds above 60mph or below 5mph. ;)
I don't think I can feel much of a power-loss in the Z. Never in a way as the EcoBoost Focus.

I have to try to fan-only method though!

With it being mid 90s out the air coming from the vents is going to be mid 90s also unless you run the AC. The AC may not automatically kick on if the thermostat is set to the coldest setting when the car starts, it does if I turn it to the coldest setting from a higher setting afterwards though. You can completely cut off the AC by turning it on then back off.

I did a bit of experimenting and it turns out that you are 100 percent correct. You can definitely notice the difference in air temp if you cycle the a/c off in the manner mentioned. Well I just learned something new about my Z, guess I'll be riding windows down more often. It's still strikes me as odd that they design the system to kick on automatically without the light coming on but I guess they have their reasons.

I never turned mine off (meaning heat on cold winter). I however filled up the tank and want to experience if I will save on mpg. I'm a quarter tank and my car still reads 18 mpg. I just concluded it didn't make a difference for me so starting tomorrow I'm back to a/c.

Yeah and given it has two auto options on the dials. It doesn't make sense.

Everyday; windows up & A/C on recirculating.

I use it rarely. don't really have to that much. setting the temp even with the ac or heater off the cabin temp seems to mysteriously raise or lower just a bit to get closer to the temp specified. but I will also run it twice a month in winter like you should or it may one day not work.

This ain't no s-chassis we use a/c here

axmea? 06-26-2017 04:00 PM

I use it to warm her up in the AM. Gets to a nice operating temp quicker. Otherwise it is used frequently in the afternoon on the way home from work. Triple digits out here lately.
