Failed inspection. Inside tread on rear Extreme Contact DWS06 Continentals is running 2/32 (closer to 1.5/32) L and 3/32 R. Warranty doesn't cover uneven tread wear.

I have the Firestone alignment lifetime deal--they (should be) aligning it to factory spec every time I bring it in, and I've brought it in about 6 or 7 times since purchasing the rubber. I align the car 4 times or so per year because it is my DD, and the roads in Waco are treacherous so I want to make sure everything is running smoothly all the time. Certainly have received my money's worth on the lifetime alignment deal...but maybe that isn't the case anymore if its f****** up my suspension/treadwear.

Only had them for ~16,000mi.

I understand due to the negative camber nature of our vehicles, 16,000 miles (mostly highway) is enough to wear the inside tread. But I also see an issue with the LEFT REAR having lower inside tread than the RIGHT REAR. Even when they are both low on the inside, they don't match.

Here is my alignment report and treadwear report:

My plan of action right now is:

- Call TireRack and ask if the warranty is still available It isn't
- Bring the Z to the stealership and pay for a diagnostic to see if any suspension parts may be causing the issue (I am running all stock suspension except for a Hotckis Front Sway).
- If suspension is the issue, I stop there and take the hit; purchase new rubber and get the suspension parts fixed/replaced at Austin Z Clinic.
- If suspension is NOT the issue, then provide the stealership with the numbers from Firestone's alignment tool and ask them if Firestone is aligning to the correct spec.
- If Firestone isn't, b**** to customer service and demand that they cover the price of purchasing and installing new EC Continental DWS06 on the rears, and never bring them my business again.
- If Firestone is aligning correctly, then I am completely lost. :icon14:

Any thoughts? :ugh2:

Your continental apparently has a 50K mile limited warranty according to the corporate website. the manufacturer might be able to replace it. I'm running the Extreme contact sports, and mine don't seem to wear fast enough so i can have an excuse to get new tires.

16,000 miles. You're doing good. I'm lucky to get 10,000 miles.

Your alignment is the issue. Make sure you set dead middle of spec for the toe both front and rear. It has to be perfect. Once you align on new tires, don't have it checked again
until it is time for new tires. Setting the alignment on used tires never works well.

Drive harder... that should even out the wear across the tire :twocents:

DWS's don't wear out to nothing in 16k miles.

How many miles does your car have?

Sure the inspection guy wasn't fcuking with you?

Honestly, that's what I thought for the first few hours after failing. But when I got down to take pictures of the tread and felt across it, the left rear tire was pretty much level on the inner part of the rubber. They measured 2/32 but I feel like thats generous. Pretty damn bald. The right rear is not as bad. Could be closer to 4/32 than 3, but I'm no pro--especially without a tread measure :rofl2:

I'm at 85,500 miles.

I put these tires on in 08/20 and have put ~16,000 on them since.

Think I may just be buying new rubber and following Spooler's advice (with a sprinkle of JAR's advice as well).

My summer Contis would wear out around 8-10k. My alignment was spot-on.

I'm running my first set of those now. They do seem to be holding up rather well.

New Upgrades!

Just ordered a pair of unbelievably Bad-AZZ new Headlights from Z1 Motorsports - the Morimoto 370Z XB LED Headlights... Damn Sexy, Can't wait to put them on my Z. Piano Black with LED DRL's and Flashing Amber Turn Signal with three LED projectors... ought to look Amazing on a Brilliant Silver Z. Pulled the trigger on them despite the heavy price tag, but boy they are SO worth it... Along with that purchase, also coming is an Aluminum Engine Undershroud as well as 10mm Wheel Spacers with Extended Studs for all four corners to push the wheels out a little... Figured in for a penny in for a pound, and boy that's a lot of Pennies and a Lot of "Pounds" (US Dollars actually...LOL). Not telling anybody in my immediate circle of friendZ or family until I install these babies and let them drool with Shock and Awe at the unexpected Bad-AZZ sight... Damn I want them now! :driving::happydance:

Installed the motordyne catback w/ some non-resonated test pipes last night...

Couldn't really push it, because in typical Washington fashion, it was pouring all day.

However, initial impressions...while the motordyne catback is incredibly expensive, it is worth every cent (in my opinion). From the aesthetic look of it (which really matters since it'll be under your car for the entire ownership), but more importantly, the sound is just fantastic. It has a deep rumble, but is also very tame until you punch it. I liked my muffler delete before, but this is much more refined while still having some bite to it. It also gets rid of that drone noise from the muffler delete, which is nice...

That being said, first time I've put non-resonated TPs, and will be the last time. That rasp...ooo weee. Not my thing. I've always been an ART pipe guy, and see why most people go art pipes + motordyne catback...I'll have to decide between switching to resonated TPs or full LTHs when my wallet is ready.

Was eyeing these the other day. My wallet can't afford it, but after I sit down and have a few chats with him, maybe I can convince him...:rofl2:

Going to need pics when they are on!

You bet - Pictures will be posted on here right after install, which will be within a week of receipt pending a day off...:yum:

Good Luck convincing your Wallet! It didn't take much convincing on my end once I saw these Babies on Z1... In Fact, I was trying hard to talk myself into NOT doing this, but that Failed Big Time, and within 4 hours of first laying eyes on them... LOL! :icon18: Ah, the joys of being Single...
