Reached 17,000 in 6 months

I feel bad for my car, but man commuting 110 miles everyday can only be done by the z. I have an old 98 Honda Crv, I used to drive this for commuting purpose but it stressed me out having to deal with the traffic and such.

It is so hard to resist the temptation for not driving the Z. That why today I have reached 17,000 in just 6 months time. Although I really take a good care of my car, I really do feel bad about it.

Maybe I should drive my CRV again tomorrow.. or maybe next week.. err hmm perhaps it will be my new year resolution to spare the mileage on my Z.. :(

Rickey89 12-10-2009 02:26 AM

if your not planning on selling the car its not a big deal ( IMO ) so long as you dont mind the upkeep, otherwise i would say drive the crv!

Red370 12-10-2009 04:16 AM

damn, i've driven 7,000 in 5 months and thought I was puttin on the miles, haha

shumby 12-10-2009 05:17 AM

Cars are not financial investments. Drive the thing! Why pay for car, title, insurance, etc to leave it in the garage. Sorry, the Z is not expensive and depreciation is not that significant.

In 4 years it will be worth mid teens. low teens with high mileage. So he would be saving ~$500 to $1000 a year by leaving it in the garage? Not worth it to me.

just my $0.02....

It all depends on whether or not he can afford to replace it. 34k miles/year, the car will be worthless in no time. Depreciation is not significant? On what planet? If you think his car will only be worth $4k less with over 130k on the odo, think again.

rcm2525 12-10-2009 06:28 AM

I drive the exact same number of miles every day and with about 2 1/2 hours a day in the car who the F*** cares about depreciation. I replace my cars every 4 years and I drive what I want.:driving:

For you guys that don't see it that's a 1 years worth of a 40hr week for every 4 years on the job. If I'm going to in the car that much I want something nice and fun.

I agree with you wife put about 300km a day on the cars. drive it like you love. Cars that sit around get sad.

Damn...I have two Basset/Lab mutts. great dogs. Lost a Chocolate Lab a few months ago, she was my co-pilot and best friend :(

spearfish25 12-10-2009 06:49 AM

The only thing that keeps coming to mind for me is that if I was driving 110mi/day, I'd much rather be in my Z than my wife's car. So, I vote you drive the car like you own it, enjoy your otherwise miserable drive to work and back, and just realize you're going to get every penny's worth out of your car before you replace it.

You haven't seen my drive. It's all country, mountains and back roads. It's the perfect road course and now with the Z it's unbeatable. This was by design when I moved out of Northern Va 10 years ago.

I cold never have lasted this long in a car up there.

Matt 12-10-2009 07:32 AM

I did not buy my car for it to sit in the driveway, or to only be driven on a clear, sunny, Saturday afternoon. I bought it to drive it, period. I have 3 cars to choose from when I drive to work, yet my Z is the ONLY choice unless it's in the shop for something.

I don't care about mpg or odometer readings. I start it up, I drive it around, and I enjoy driving it. You maintain it well, and the extra miles only hurt your resale, not the actual car.

17k miles just means you've gotten to enjoy the car about 3 times as much as the rest of us have! Sadly, it also means you're halfway done with your bumper to bumper warranty, haha!

Miles don't matter if you are keeping the car. If you maintain it, proper oil change intervals, and all the other maintenance involved (probably very little since it's a Nissan), you should enjoy the car well into the 120k+ - FWIW, I put 34k at 1 year 2 months!

You bought the car to enjoy! Have fun!

Sweet commute, as long as it isn't snowing, then you're doomed. Last winter I got stuck behind some poor lout who was trying to get up a small hill in a snowstorm here in coastal CT. Traffic was backed up for 20 mins during rush hour because this guy in a 330i on fat performance tires was sliding sideways and blocking traffic in both directions. :icon14:

Rockstar 12-10-2009 10:19 AM

Thanks guys. Man I feel better now. Although I will still try to spare the mileage on that car if I could.

GingaBreadMan 12-10-2009 10:43 AM

Wow I have driven 4k miles in 6 months and feel I drive the Z too much. Enjoy the car, you deserve it.

kannibul 12-10-2009 10:45 AM

I have 2.6K and I bought my car June 6...lol

fairladyZ34 12-10-2009 10:57 AM

gleonard 12-10-2009 11:09 AM

theDreamer 12-10-2009 11:10 AM

10,400 (estimated) and owned since May 1st.

TBSS2008 12-10-2009 11:57 AM

Just rolled over 16,000 miles in 8 months. Long commute to work sucks but is much better when I am behind the wheel of my 370z, drive what you love!

elmz 12-10-2009 12:18 PM

Cars are made to be driven. Drive it, enjoy it, and don't look back.

feelzpwr91 12-10-2009 12:53 PM

4300 in 6 months lol :)

alvinmathew88 12-10-2009 01:03 PM

Damn i thought i put a lot of miles.. i have 97 civic with 220,000 miles and still going strong... 18,333.33 miles per year.

GT Motoring 12-10-2009 03:23 PM

Keep driving it. If you ever think its time to get rid of it you will be like "its not worth that much anymore" and you can KEEP IT!

Or by the time you get to that point, there will be thousands of parts laying around, control arms, bushings, motors, etc that you can put on it and it will be like new again!

A friend has an S2000 with 240k on the chassis and 40k on the motor. Over 30k a year on that chassis and all is well!

One_Quick_Z 12-10-2009 04:29 PM

Wow I only put on 3600 in 6 months, Then again I didnt drive it if it was raining or had a chance of raining, or just running to the store... I drove it for the purpose of just going for a drive in it :)

DAN

zfokaiz 12-10-2009 04:38 PM

Man the way I see it is its a car that was ment to be driven. you didnt pay 30k+ for it to sit in your garage. Enjoy the thing.
and about the whole hurting the value of your car, Id rather live rich than die rich. IMO :driving:

PapoZalsa 12-10-2009 08:11 PM

I might drive mine 6,000 miles in one year...might!

But I will enjoy my car in the Spring and Summer, and Fall not in damn Winter.

I'm with you. I have other cars for commuting and runs to the store. My Z is like a boat...a pleasure craft, yeah, that's it. When I take it out it gets driven for fun. :excited:

John Bradley 12-10-2009 08:28 PM

I'm just not even gonna tell yall then how many miles my roadster will see...
all I can say is I need the 20 year or 36,000 mile warranty :tiphat:

Although I am thinking about buying a coupe to drive more frequently..

GETU1 12-10-2009 10:58 PM

Dude, it's your car and you worked hard for it...drive it the way you want to. As for me, I keep my Z as a weekend driver/date car. IMHO, Houston roads are too jacked up and the traffic can be brutal to be driving manual everyday. I get upset if I drive her more than 100 miles per week. But hey, that's just me. :p

NYBladeZ 12-10-2009 11:01 PM

Keep rollin man enjoy it to the max!

Who cares about the mileage! Why don't you keep driving it like a Rock Star. :bowrofl:
